Biology and appearance
The Yam'rii are a group of large, mantis-like alien creatures that inhabit the planet Yamr. Though their appearance may look non-threatening, the Yam'rii posses an incredible amount of strength. Their exoskeletons provide them with a great amount of protection from Yamr's harsh climate. Even though the planet is near inhabitable to most races, the Yam'rii have constructed a large industrialized society, basing most of their economy on technology.

The twin eyes located on each side of the Yam'riis heads allow them with an incredible sense of sight. This ability for great detail allows them to be excellent mechanics. The normal Yam'rii grows to be around two meters tall, though their bodies remain relatively slim all their lives. The Yam'rii are known for their great stealth methods, which is impressive for their large size.

Yam'rii blood was green in color. [1]

At least some members of the species have pupil-like spots on their eyes. Nostrils lie below the eyes, although in most Yam'rii these were imperceptible. A mass of bumplike protrusions at the front of the head acts as a mouth and taste organ, known to shudder at the prospect of a meal. In some specimens, the maw can be opened wide to reveal white teeth. Dual knobby crests grow from the beings' heads with other bumps in between. A spiky ridge runs along the back of the head. [1]

A long, narrow neck supports the head on broad, rounded shoulders. In many Yam'rii, both the neck and thorax are diamond-shaped in cross-section, with the more acute edges toward the front and back. Other members of the species have two rows of raised bumps on the front and back of the torso instead. The midsection is dominated by two arms held before the body mantis-like, the first of the double padded joints bent upward and the second downward. [1]

Yam'rii were encased in hard carapaces, with lighter shade sometimes on the fore of the thorax and abdomen. Members of the species wore minimal clothing, such as cloth skirts, belts, or bandoliers with pockets for carrying possessions. [1]

Society and culture
Yam'rii attitudes are not much different from other species in the universe. Much like the Wookiee race, Yam'rii are quick to anger and have been known to go on large frenzies fuelled by their anger. They are meat-eaters by nature, and thus have been developing their hunting methods on Yamr since they were young. Eggs are also a supreme delicacy for the Yam'rii race.

They were a technological culture with full access to hyperspace-capable spacecraft[4] and modern droids. In fact, the LOM-series protocol droid series was given insectoid features in the hopes of appealing to Yam'rii and other insectoid consumers. [1]

History
The Yam'rii descended from non-sentient insects. At some point in their evolutionary path, they split from the line that would eventually become their distant relatives, the Verpine. [1]

Sometime after the thousand years ago and generations before the Clone Wars, the Yam'rii established contact with the greater galaxy and gained access to hyperspace technology. They formed ties with the Galactic Republic and established themselves as important trading partners of the Trade Federation. The insectoid species decided it would be in their best interest to gain access to greater stores of natural resources, such as rarefied minerals and ore, to trade on the galactic market. Settlers thus set off to colonize nearby planets, including the rainforest world Abbaji and its neighbor Tovarskl, and to exploit the raw materials they afforded. Expansionist zeal blinded the species to any concern for pre-existing lifeforms or sentient species on the worlds the Yam'rii claimed.[1]

The Yam'rii eventually reached the nearby Kalee system. On the planet Kalee, they encountered a relatively primitive reptilian species known as the Kaleesh. Circa 60 years ago, the Yam'rii planted a colony on the world and began gathering the few resources they could find. These were deemed inadequate, however, and the insectoids turned to exporting a commodity they deemed much more lucrative: the Kaleesh themselves. The insectoids corralled the reptilian species by the hundreds, eventually enslaving and selling millions on the galactic market. [1]

Description
One of the last planets along the Sisar Run to be colonised, Sriluur was ignored largely due to its unforgiving environment. When the Huok, a notoriously hardy species, finally undertook a colonisation drive, they were met with fierce resistance from the native Weequay tribes.

Although "civilised" by the autocratic rule of the Huok, the Weequay maintain a fiery nationalist fervour for their homeworld, which they believe is granted divine protection -- thanks to its proximity to their god "Quay", a close-orbiting moon. Religious doctrine forbids any Weequay from leaving the planet without special dispensation from a shaman, and even those lucky enough to be granted such a privilege are bound by oath to return to the Sriluur temples as often as possible.

In recent years, powerful Hutt magnates from across the galaxy have aided Sriluurian movements, largely out of appreciation for the Weequay's noble sacrifices in the historic Third Battle of Vontor. While meant to empower the local populations, and offer help finding off-world employment, the Hutt influence has also left critics decrying the increase in criminal activity.

The planet also serves as a nexus for numerous other local trade routes, making it a popular destination for traders. [1]

The dominant topographical features of Sriluur are white deserts, dry scrub-lands and rocky fields, and sandstorms were frequent. The planet has enormous copper reserves, but these were never exploited through large-scale mining, with miners instead preferring to focus on other metals, minerals and gems—exports vital to Sriluur's economy. Its oceans are high in acid content but still home to some lifeforms.[1]

History
The planet experienced an early period of intense tectonic activity, which was responsible for Sriluur's abundance of volcanoes. Its harsh, predator-ridden ecosystem originally forced the Weequay to roam the planet's deserts. Not until the species' technology advanced to an industrial level some 25,100 years ago did they establish their first cities along the shores of Sriluur's acidic oceans. This development was vital to Weequay civilization, as the cities helped protect them from the planet's many predatory species, and gave them easier access to the bountiful seas.[1]

Sriluur remained undiscovered by the galaxy at large until some 25,100 BCGT. Even then, it was not frequently visited by other species aside from the occasional trader, and managed to avoid the expansion of the Human conqueror Xim's empire during the last years of the Pre-Republic era. Weequay mercenaries were among the thousands of troops recruited by the Hutt Empire to combat Xim in the Hutt–Xim conflict. Following their victory in that war, the Hutts began pressing their interests on Sriluur, to the extent that it was considered to be part of Hutt Space. The Galactic Republic did not discover the planet until somewhere between 15,000 and 8,000 years ago. The Weequay homeworld went untouched by all major galactic conflicts up until the Galactic Civil War.[1]

Biology and appearance
The Weequay are a race of humanoid aliens which are characterized by the topknot of hair which sprouts from their heads. The number of braids one has seems to indicate rank, although many xenosociologists claim the number of strands is meant to indicate the number of Sriluur years a Weequay has been away from his homeworld. Weequay have gnarled, coarse skin which allows them to blend in with, and survive in, the deserts of their native planet, Sriluur. Among other Weequay, they have the ability to communicate using pheromonal discharges, but they only seem to work within individual Weequay clans. To other races, they are simply smelly beings.

Society and culture
In general, Weequay do not have individual names. They are a quiet, dangerously violent race by nature, and have often found employment as soldiers, guards and mercenaries for the Hutts. The Weequay people have lived on Sriluur with the Houk people for many years, but the racial tensions between the two races have erupted several times into all-out war. The Weequay prefer to remain low on the technological scale, and worship the moon which orbits Sriluur and its god, Quay. The name 'Weequay' means 'follower of Quay.' The Weequay appease their god by sacrificing a large beast after battling it. The beast most often sacrificed is the bantha. One of the most interesting things about the Weequay is their written language, which is formed from stones woven into long braids of hair to create symbols and characters.

Only Weequay who had to live among other clans, or among non-Weequay, took a personal name. Even then, some were simply referred to as "Weequay". In Weequay culture, individual identity was much less important than the clan. As long as the clan survived, a single Weequay was expendable. This resulted in a sometimes brutal culture. [1]

Male Weequay often tied their hair into long braids. Traditionally, they would grow one "seclusion braid" for each Sriluurian year spent away from their homeworld as a tribute to their home. When they returned, they shaved their braids. Weequays serving the Hutt clans were often very close to their homeworld, and would only have one or two braids. Female Weequay were usually bald, and did not follow this tradition. [1]

Weequay religion was complex, with many deities. Among them were the moon-god Quay and the thunder god Am-Shak. Quay was their chief god: indeed, "Weequay" translated to "Follower of Quay". Zealous Weequays performed ritual sacrifices in Quay's honor, at times resorting to murder, earning their culture a violent reputation. Each of their cities was centered around a shrine of black, polished stone, known as a thal, where the Weequay made offerings of food and valuables. Their religious code prohibited building thal off Sriluur, so off-world devotees were obligated to substitute animal sacrifices (usually large animals like banthas). [1]

Weequays were widely used throughout the galaxy as mercenaries or criminal henchmen. They played this role in their earliest recorded contact with the outside galaxy, when they joined Vodran, Klatooinian, and Nikto mercenaries in the pay of the Hutts to battle Xim the Despot's forces at the Third Battle of Vontor during the Hutt-Xim conflict. Unlike the other races hired by the Hutts, the Weequay did not sign the Treaty of Vontor, and remained independent of the Hutts. They were used extensively as foot soldiers by the Hutt Cartel and Black Sun. [1]
}}

Overview
This alien race, native to the planet Thyferra, perfected the creation of bacta by combining alazhi and kavam. They vastly outnumber the human natives of the planet, but are considered inferior to their corporate counterparts.

Biology and appearance
The Vratix are humanoid insects. They have large, compound eyes, a stalk-like neck, and three pairs of limbs sprouting from a cylindrical thorax and abdomen. The upper set of limbs acts as triple-jointed arms, while the lower two serve as legs. The last set of limbs is well-muscled, and is used in jumping. Most Vratix are grey in colour, with the shades darkening with age.

Small thin hairs cover their bodies and changed color to express emotion. Vratix excrete denin, a chemical that alters the color of their skin to reflect their mood, and is connected to their speech patterns of clicks also known as Vratix. Despite this, they can communicate with other beings via Basic when regarding trade. They are also slightly telepathic, capable of sending thoughts with other Vratix that they related to. [1]

Society and culture
They have a basic form of hive mentality, but are able to function as individuals. They believe that sight and sound are not permanent things, and prefer to touch another being in order to recognize their presence. The Vratix on Thyferra govern themselves through the Ashern Circle. However, the strong pro-human sentiments found in the Zaltin and Xucphra factions have labelled the Ashern as terrorists. Although the Ashern are widely considered responsible for the contamination of certain lots of bacta, this may only be a ruse to cover up an internal struggle.

Vratix was also the name given to the native language of the Vratix. It consisted of a series of clicks and high-pitched sounds, which were augmented by changes in skin colour. Because of this combination, no written form of the Vratix language was created, and non-Vratix could only learn to understand - but not speak - the language.

Vratix are a logical and straightforward species that had trouble grasping abstract concepts like art and music. However, they can solve a complex problem by examining every detail and angle. Culture was centered around the hive mentality. They generally refer to themselves as the plural we rather than I, and usually under their hive name. It should also be noted that the Vratix are generally a sociable species; they prefer all information to be delivered personally. They tend to greet other beings by touching the other being's face, shoulders and/or arms. This potentially awkward custom originates from the Vratix belief that touch is the most reliable sense, and that the eyes and ears can be fooled much more easily than the sense of touch. [1]

The Vratix also keep Knytix, a smaller insectoid species, as pets and for the creation of dwellings (their saliva is used to make a mud-like paste that is then dried to make bricks). The Vratix also eat the Knytix on certain occasions, when the owner of the Knytix offers his pet to another Vratix as a sign of high respect. [1]

History
Vratix used bacta for thousands of years, and were not hesitant to share their secret with the galaxy at large. During the Galactic Republic a thriving business evolved around the sale and distribution of bacta. They tolerated the relationship with the off-worlders who wished to exploit bacta, and preferred to work the kavam fields from their villages. [1]
One of two species native to the sinkhole world of Utapau, the short stocky Utai have pale, hairless skin and two glassy black eyes which are well adapted to see in the darkness. Their hands have four fingers and their feet have two toes. They are ussually laborers or tamers in the sinkhole cities and caverns of their homeworld. Utai society exists in a simbiotic relationship with that of the tall Pau'ans.

Society and culture
The Utai lived alone along the walls and crevices of the Utapu sinkholes, they domesticated wild beasts and were hardy enough to venture the bottom of the sinkholes grottoes to get water for their aquacultural projects. But an anomality in the weather conditions forced the Pau'ans underground to live among the Utai, instead of warring they each saw what the other could offer: The pau'ans were able to manage intergalactic affairs and introduced wind power to the Utai, who in return provided water, food and domesticated beasts for labor or transportation.

Unlike the Pau`ans the Utai are more practical and don't involve themselves in diplomatic or govermental matters nor venerate family ties. Perhaps being too smart to take part in such messes, they prefer their simple lives.

Biology and appearance
An insectile/reptilian race known for their ability to fix high-tech devices, they were the original settlers of the Roche asteroid system. Their exact homeworld remains a mystery even to the Verpine. The Verpine have developed a high level of technology, but retain a child-like sense of wonder at the galaxy around them. The Verpine body is thin and ungainly, and has only four limbs - two long arms and two thin legs. Their large, black eyes have evolved beyond the normal ability of the multifaceted eyes of most insects, allowing the Verpine to see incredible levels of detail. They live in hives of about 100 Verpine, and reproduction is only required when the population of the hive drops below a certain level. Despite their hive mentality, each Verpine is allowed individual thoughts. Their communal consciousness precludes the need for formal government. They have a body organ in their chest that allows them to emit radio waves and thus communicate with each other across distances. There is some discussion on the necessity of the Verpine's antenna, and the fact that the most criminal Verpine have always had damaged antennae.

Their hardened carapace, composed of a green chitinous substance called carahide, was as flexible as the skin of other creatures, yet tough enough to deflect a blade or even absorb a glancing blaster bolt. The Verpine circulatory system did not contain a heart — at least, not an organ which Human physiologists would identify as a heart.[1]

Society and culture
Verpine had variable naming customs. Some had single names such as Fxz'et, Zix, Ss's, or Moegid. Others had first and last names such as Kuli Ned'lx, Kyli Ned'Ix, or Osos Niskooen. Many, though not all, Verpine names contained sibilant consonants and glottal stops. [1]

History
The Verpine people did not evolve in the asteroids of the Roche system. Each inhabited asteroid was only made livable through the creation of artificial, self-sustaining environments in the interior. Some observers thought that the Roche asteroids were the remains of a Verpine homeworld which had broken up either slowly through natural forces, or suddenly as a result of a catastrophic civil war. Others theorized that the Verpine were descended from extra-galactic nomads who settled in the Roche asteroid field. The Verpine simply told outsiders that they were unaware of the location of their original homeworld.[1]

Whether it was due to the after-effects of this ancient civil war, or because of the political uniformity and egalitarianism of their civilization, the Verpine were a peaceful people, expert arbitrators who preferred compromise to conflict. The large insects had long been a spacefaring race and had colonized the Roche asteroid belts before the Galactic Republic was born.[1]

By the time of the Jedi Civil War, the Verpine were part of the Galactic community. High-quality Verpine-manufactured items ranging from ion blasters to cardio-regulators were widely used. Some of these designs were adapted and improved from other species, such as the Bothans or the Arkanians. Contemporary rumors were suspicious of the Verpine, however. Extrapolating from the Verpine practice of testing ion blasters on active droids, some Verpine weapons and medical technology were thought to have been tested on live sentients. [1]

Many of the Verpine who left their home system found work as starship technicians. Most of them met with success, though some of them would get in trouble for continually making unauthorized, sometimes dangerous, "improvements" to the equipment they maintained. Others used their experience with Verpine communal decision making to act as professional arbitrators and negotiators.[1]
Gentes is known to most only as the home world to the Ugnaughts, industrious pig like creatures common on Bespin and other planets in the sector. Once a swampy paradise, sadly the planet has suffered from environmental damage from slave traders. In attempts to make the Ugnaught population more willing to be transported off their home planet, the slave traders poured toxins into the rivers and oceans, killing off many of the basic food species the Ugnaughts relied on, and though it is still a life supporting planet, the life it has is a shadow of the rich diversity that blossomed there before.

The planet has two icy polar caps which vary little in size as the seasons on Gentes are not extreme, due to its small axial tilt. Most life on the planet is found along an equatorial landmass which is bordered north and south by seas. There is a little active volcanism which is mostly slow lava flows rather than explosive volcanoes. Gentes has a high gravity for a planet of its size, because of a high proportion of dense elements in the core and mantle. This may be responsible for the stumpy physique of its populace.
The Ugnaught are a race of small, pig like creatures known for their mechanical abilities. The Ugnaughts are native to the planet Gentes. There, they have grown to become strong, efficient creatures, able to withstand a great deal of discomfort. However, the planetary hostile environment forces them to move elsewhere. Due to their good teamwork and cooperation skills, many tribes of Ugnaughts were stolen and sold or leased as slaves. One of the nearest planets to Gentes is Bespin, where they have become an integral part of the society on Cloud City. The Ugnaughts are great storytellers, and much of their history is collected and passed on in long tales. There have also been tales about a library where they wrote down all their stories and stored them. Unfortunately, most people never believed that tale because the race is also known for their exaggeration. It is also told that whoever finds the library will have access to a large collection of ancient literature. Because of this, many have devoted their lives to discovering the location of such a library.

Ugnaughts were ruled by elected terend councils, which are led by elected ufflor officers. They were also represented in the Cloud City's Parliament of Guilds. Ugnaughts lived their lives in accordance to their "blood profession", with Ugnaught parents teaching their children their trade. Infant Ugnaughts were known as Ugletts. If the number of new Ugnaughts in a given profession exceeded the needed, a blood duel was called. When the Ugnaughts reached their twentieth year of age, these fights were held to the death, with the victor winning the right to inherit their blood profession. Despite this outdated and violent custom, the Ugnaughts were generally a peaceful people with a rich culture. [1]

When greeting an Ugnaught, it was advised to bow silently, then wait for a guttural purring as a positive response. Usage of the common intergalactic greeting "yaa-yaah" was considered a personal insult to Ugnaughts. If this occurred, it was advisable to duck and cover, as various mechanical implements would be thrown one's way. [1]

Description
Sullust is the main planet of the system and home world to the Sullustan race. The planet is mostly rock and caves as the cold temperatures make any planet growth on the planet impossible. The atmosphere of Sullust is extremely toxic as there are many volcanic regions which are very active causing a near constant out pouring of dangerous gases into the atmosphere. On average there is a volcanic eruption somewhere on Sullust at least once a week. The gases from the eruptions form noxious clouds that hover around the world giving the planet an extremely dark and gloomy look from space.

Because of the dangerous conditions on the planet's surface, the majority of Sullust's organisms live in caves. The Sullustans are extremely well adapted to their planet, building entire cities underground with thousands of kilometers of tunnels leading from each and every way. The Sullustans are highly advanced and their tunnel cities are considered some of the greatest architectural works in the galaxy. Hundreds of traders and galaxy roamers visit Sullust each month for the chance to walk around the confines of the caves. At least one company has employed Sullustan architects to help plan and build future underground colonies. The largest collection of underground caves and tunnels on Sullust forms the capital city of Suubria. Thousands of inhabitants live within the main cavern of the city.

The underground caverns of Sullust provide adequate amounts of plant and animal life to feed the Sullustan people. Most of the animals are small, fast creatures that feed off of the fungi growing in the caverns. Some of the caverns are also used as farming areas, allowing large amounts of fungi to grow for cultivation. The hunting ability used in the caverns of Sullust has led the Sullustan species to have a natural sense of direction.

History
Sullust joined the Galactic Republic some 5,500 years ago. Sullust was attacked by the Krath during the Great Sith War, but was successfully defended by the Galactic Republic. [1]
Biology and appearance
The Sullustan are a race of small, mouse-like humanoids can be distinguished by their huge almond-shaped black eyes, loose jowls called "dewflaps", and large, round ears. Their skin colour is usually pink, but some are grey or light green. They salivate quite often and live underground to avoid Sullust's inhospitable atmosphere. Their ingenuity and adaptability have allowed them to create huge underground cities, and their technology has grown at an incredibly fast rate.

Humanoids, Sullustans can see up to 20 metres in the dark and have an incredible sense of direction, having lived in caves all their lives. Additionally they are known to have the uncanny ability to remember a path or map exactly, even after the first time they see it. Thus, many Sullustans have become pilots and navigators.

Unfortunately, due to the evolution of the species in a low-light or completely dark environment, they are genetically predisposed to corneal defects at around the age of 30 years or so; many choose to wear special visors to prevent further damage when this condition manifests itself.

Society and culture [1]
Sullustans are outgoing and mercantile, friendly and pragmatic. As a species they are altogether lacking in xenophobia. Though fond of practical jokes and extremely shrewd in their business dealings, they are eager to explore and travel the galaxy. Inquisitive by nature, some have described Sullustans as reckless, especially for their preference to learn and discover whenever possible through personal experience.

Sullustans organize themselves into familial units known as Warren-clans. Each clan consists of one polyandrous female, several husbands and their young. Unmated females, known as "Fems", are active members of their communities until they reach the status of "Ready" which marked their breeding years. At the outset of Ready, "Fems" choose their mates and found their own Warren-clans.

Few Sullustans leave their homeworld, but those that do often find employment as pilots or merchants. Inspired by legends like Mayjeln, Sullustan spacers put their skills as navigators to use and are prized crewers across the galaxy. Because of this, their flowing, staccato language of Sullustese was known to many smugglers. Sullustan names are often direct translations from Sullustese words and typically consisted of a given name and surname of four letters each.

Burial rites are given particular focus in Sullustan culture, with vast crypts and vaults maintained by crypt masters. Death, known as "Eternal Sleep", is viewed with great reverence. The most important of these rites is the Tomb-walling Ceremony, an elaborate funeral procedure. Important leaders and famous Sullustans were entombed in the Gallery of Ancestors and the Catacomb of Eminents.

Sullustan religion appears to be polytheistic, including a pantheon of gods like Triakk.

Governmentally, Sullustan names referencing nobility is evidence of some form of monarchy, but all recorded history demonstrates the use of democracy.

Sullustans are also dedicated to the principles of capitalism and open markets, but were primarily motivated by the possibility of bettering their people, not greed. Sullust's technologically advanced underground cities bristled with shops and markets attractive to tourists from across the galaxy.

Oddly enough, Sullustans eventually replaced Wookiees as the galactic experts of the hairstyling business—in spite of the fact that they were almost devoid of hair. The Barbers of Sullust were renowned for their skill with the cosmetic arts.
Thyferra is known throughout the galaxy as the original source of bacta. Its native population, the insectoid Vratix, discovered the formulation and the human colonists of the planet (known as Thyferrans) became the major economic driving force behind its exploitation. The two races coexist upon the planet, with the Vratix and Thyferrans having their own separate systems of government. There have been tensions in this balance, with accusations of terrorism pointed at the Vratix Ashern Circle. For such a large planet the gravity is low, leading to the tall and graceful physique of the Thyferrans and also allowing the evolution of the Vratix to such large physical size. Humid jungles swathe the equatorial regions of the planet with shady forest and grassland elsewhere, and it is generally a very pleasant place.

There is little variation in seasonal climate as Thyferra has an almost circular orbit and stable weather system. The lovely beaches are very popular as a destination for tourists and inevitably the settlements near the coast have lively casinos, bars and nightlife.

The location of this planet is strategically significant for controlling traffic passing through to neighbouring systems, which has led to the construction of several military bases to monitor ships travelling in the vicinity.

History
Thyferra was the homeworld of the Vratix people. The Vratix had already colonized many celestial bodies in the Polith system when they were in first contact with the Galactic Republic around 4,100 years ago. [1]

Business is the focus of Thyferran society and it is a very competitive culture. Beginning in the family business at a young age, many Thyferrans never leave the planet; instead spend their life maneuvering their way up the corporate ladder.

Because of Thyferra's low gravity, Thyferrans tend to be rather tall and skinny. The climate is warm and humid, so fashions are usually abbreviated.

Description
This planet is the only truly habitable world in the Alzoc system, and yet thanks to its axial inclination of 23 degrees, it is largely covered with frozen plains, broken up only by the occasional volcanoes and icy seas. Alzoc III’s sidereal orbital period is over five hundred and twenty two days long, with a day last nearly seventy three hours. The temperate rarely rises above five degrees Celsius, though at the equator it can sometimes rise as high as twenty Celsius, though the weather is surprisingly calm for a world of its type. The atmosphere is comprised of fairly typical gases, most notably nitrogen and oxygen, though there has been a gradual build up of carbon dioxide due to the industrial pollution created by the Empire’s unrestricted mining enterprises on the planet.

The planet has a variety of native life forms, including the beautiful ocean-dwelling swanfish, the viciously predatory Yevii and the placid, herbivorous Tuln, though it is most notable for being the homeworld of the Talz species and the Alzoc Pearl, which is highly prized by jewellers for its purity and malleable nature.

The swanfish is a strange quirk of evolution, as it is by all definitions a fish, yet it is covered in thick, bushy feathers that are white in colour. Also the colouring of the feathers around the fish’s head is a dark grey. Almost a metre in length, the fish has a long, strangely extended neck, and is also quite large by Alzoc standards and it has no known natural enemies aside from the Talz fishermen, living solely on plankton and Alzoc’s equivalent of seaweed.

The predatory Yevii live on land and are often seen hunting in packs of up to twenty. They are gregarious by nature, rarely living in any groups of less than five, with an alpha male leading the pack. The Yevii are very much like large cats, being over two metres in length and standing a metre from the ground on all fours. Their thick, shaggy coats are mostly white in colour so as to camouflage themselves with their icy surroundings, enabling them to launch surprise attacks on their prey. They possess a fierce, cunning intelligence, though they are not really sentient. They have been known to attack Talz and humans alike, though these incidents are rare.

The Tuln are herbivorous, grazing in large herds across the frozen tundra and mild, grassy plains of the equatorial regions. They stand about a metre and a half from the ground and roughly two and a half metres in length, with a greyish, coarse hide protecting them from the harsh elements. The Talz often hunt them for food, providing them with skins, animal milk and fresh meat.

The first the Talz knew of the arrival of the Empire was the rolling thunder and flash of lightning as the clouds broke were torn apart, and large grey rocks began falling from the sky. Instead of crashing, these rocks landed smoothly with a strange growling noise, and parts of them released white demons holding black sticks that spat fire at everything they saw. Many Talz died, despite the fact that they are a gentle, peaceful species, with the Imperials killing all those around the landing field before fanning out to secure the drop zone for the construction teams. An Imperial Army garrison was built, along with a prefabricated town for the Imperial workers who helped oversee the slave labour force in the mines.

The system was stricken from the Galactic Register of planets shortly after the Galactic Empire took control of the planet, in order to use the hard working, peaceful Talz as slave labour for the many industrial plants and mines that litter the surface. Due to the timing of the world's discovery, the Empire did not log the existence of the Talz or the location of its home system, not wanting to be burdened by the Senate regulations relating to the treatment and handling of primitive sentients. Even after the Empire had firmly entrenched itself, they kept the mines on Alzoc III and the enslaved Talz a closely guarded secret. As a result, Talz are rarely ever encountered off their homeworld and those that do make it offworld are often captured, only to be sent back.

The Talz miners were poorly fed and mistreated, with the local Imperial commanders not caring how many died so long as the mineral quotas from the mines were fulfilled in time for the bulk freighters that arrived monthly, loading the refined materials onboard to take them to the factories and shipyards of the more industrialized Core Worlds.

Eventually, due to circumstances beyond the Empire’s control, they were forced to relinquish control of the planet and left, leaving the Talz to their own devices, until Falleen Federation explorers entered the system on a routine mapping expedition and added the system back onto the Galactic Register. Nowadays the Falleen Federation maintains a military outpost on the surface, but leaves the Talz to attend to their own affairs.
Biology and appearance
The Talz are a culturally and technologically primitive species native to the frigid world of Alzoc III in the Outer Rim system of Alzoc. They stand an average of 2 meters tall and are completely covered in thick, shaggy white fur, with sharp talons capping oversized hands. The only obvious feature of their furry faces is their four black eyes, but it also holds a proboscis through which they speak their buzzing native language and feed. They are gently, kind-hearted beings who are slow to anger.

The four eyes of the Talz are perhaps his or her most remarkable feature. One pair is adapted to see clearly in light so blinding that it might burn the corneas of most other beings, while the other pair can see in near total darkness. The end result is that Talz can see in virtually any lighting conditions and are not blinded by bright flashes.

Society and culture
Most Talz are unaware that a vast galactic civilization exists beyond their world. Imperial scouts discovered them as the New Order was putting a final end to the Republic. The Empire recognized that they had discovered a ready-made slave labor force to extract the mineral wealth of Alzoc III. But all the Talz know is that one day, rocks fell from the sky, and out of these rocks stepped strange beings who forced them to give up their normal routines to make caves. The Talz live in the hope that the strange beings will leave someday so that life can return to normal.

Due to the timing of the world's discovery, the New Order did not log the existence of the Talz, not wanting to be burdened by the Senate regulations relating to the treatment and handling of primitive sentients. Even after the Empire was firmly entrenched, they kept the mines on Alzoc III and the enslaved Talz a secret. As such, the Talz are very rarely encountered anywhere but Alzoc III, and those who do show up elsewhere tend to be in the service of Imperial officials. A few Talz have fled their homeworld and escaped Imperial custody through a variety of means, but those who stray too far from loosely controlled systems on the far fringes of the Outer Rim tend to be captured and sent back to their homeworld.

Most Talz professionals are thugs, although their gentle nature tends to cause them to refrain from actively bullying others. Talz heroes are almost exclusively fringers; once introduced to the concept of high technology, they often take to it well.

Usually, only the rare Talz encountered off Alzoc III will understand Basic, but his proboscis makes it impossible for him to speak it. Although protocol droids are not typically programmed with the Talz language, it is possible to program one with the ability to translate it.
The lack of pupils causes most other races to mistrust the Siniteen since it is nearly impossible to know which direction they are looking.
The Siniteen have incredible mental abilities, and can process huge calculations in their heads; therefore, they have great skills with computers. They have even been known to calculate hyperspace jumps without the aid of a navigation computer. Because of this ability, the Siniteen are invaluable members of the testing team for prototype starships as they can plot jumps to a safe haven if the navigation computer breaks down. Furthermore, because of their very developed brain, the Siniteen are a very emotional race; it is not hard to upset a Siniteen, but, on the other hand, making them laugh isn't that hard either. Overall, they are known as a very compassionate and sociable people.

Its surface covered entirely by water due to the gravitational effects of two orbiting satellites, for most of its history Manaan had no urban areas visible from space. Its dominant species, the Selkath, preferred to live in underwater caves or city 'pods'; that is until these natives gained a hugely significant role as the most important medical supplier of the known galaxy.

The Selkath are amphibious humanoids, despite never being exposed to dry land during their evolution. For millennia they had produced the miraculous healing substance known as 'kolto'. The Selkath extracted kolto's base material from the jagged rifts of the planet's deep oceans. After it underwent numerous refinement processes, which were kept secret by the Selkath, the chemical creation that resulted was used in much the same way as bacta is now.

Some speculate that the potency of kolto was inextricably linked with a legendary monster known as the 'Progenitor', the creature who had initially formed the raw kolto. This beast then was not only responsible for sustaining Manaan‘s impressive economy, but is also said to be a direct ancestor of the Selkath species. For these reasons it was, and still is, revered as a religious icon. Unfortunately for the Selkath, their primary resource was eventually superseded by bacta, after its invention on the planet Thyferra. Harder to produce and a less effective alternative to bacta, kolto could no longer compete in the galactic market and its galaxy-wide distribution ceased, ending the high status that had once been held by a mostly unremarkable oceanic planet. It is argued by some, however, that bacta's discovery coinciding with the end of kolto production was merely coincidence. There had long been accusations, especially from within Manaan, that greed had led to over-production which had completely depleted the sources of raw kolto even before the market collapsed.

Kolto, which had once been the most important resource of the planet Manaan and perhaps the entire galaxy, was exploited by the Selkath to bring them not just wealth, but also to benefit those sentient beings who would likely live longer when treated with the substance. This thinking resulted in the creation of the ancient Ahto City, built primarily as a starport where the Selkath could easily export their kolto and import the goods of a vast galaxy. To ensure the kolto was distributed equally to those in need of it, the Selkath had sternly retained a stance of neutrality, refusing to take sides in even the most important of galactic affairs.

Ultimately, as kolto production declined so too did the planet's importance. Manaan has slipped into relative obscurity with diminished status as a beautiful, yet forgotten orb hanging in the blackness of the Inner Rim.
In ancient times, their ancestors were slaves to the Rakata, but gained their independence after the Infinite Empire's collapse. Since then, the Selkath have opted to remain neutral in times of intergalactic conflict. Their laws are very harsh, and it is not uncommon for violence or attempts to compromise Manaan's neutrality to be punished by death. The Selkath haven't forgotten their time as slaves under the Rakatans either; most Selkath seem to have an innate hatred toward slavery and the subjection of weaker species to those who have the power to force their own will upon them.

On Manaan, the Selkath have only one city above land, the planet's capital, Ahto City. This was done so that foreign dignitaries and interstellar visitors would feel comfortable, as the rest of the cities the Selkath inhabit are protected by the vast seas in which they exist.

In Selkath culture, a large female firaxan shark, known as the Progenitor, is seen as either a religious deity, or even an early evolutionary step in the Selkath chain. While some hold a reverence or even worship her as a mother goddess, others have embraced some of the other religious thoughts that are present throughout the galaxy. One of such faiths rose to prominence after the events of the Jedi Civil War, a Force tradition known as the Order of Shasa. While they have many members in Manaan, galaxy-wide their numbers are very small.
Throughout all the religions of the galaxy, none has ever more aptly summarized the creation of their devotees than that of Sanyassa. "From the beauty, sprang the horrid" (Spr. 47) - for truly the world of Sanyassa is as beautiful as its native inhabitants are horrid. Known for a wide extent of native flora and fauna, the planet was first included in galactic surveys approximately 700 years ago, though their technocratic society shows signs of being at least ten times that age.

Several prominent xenobiologists set up a research base in the north, though it soon became heavily fortified to prevent the native Sanyassans from attempting to overrun it for the myriad of electronics that were held within - after several failed attempts, it was finally captured by a Sanyassan king named Tyulker, who raided it for its valuables, and left the abandoned base to rot.
A brutal reptilian species from the planet Sanyassa. Most Sanyassans do not speak Basic, but have their own language and write in hieroglyphs. Many Sanyassans - appropriately also known as "Marauders" - are known to prey on others without any reason at all, which leads many of them to live as space pirates. However, their skill in space piracy is limited, as even the best pilots among Sanyassans have trouble with the simplest of piloting manoeuvres.

Sanyassans are long-lived and have sturdy bodies. They are two or more meters tall, although dwarf Sanyassans are not uncommon. They are wont to invent lofty titles for themselves within their social structure, but not quite so quick to understand their own invented titles. Most Sanyassans fear being alone, which is why they choose to live cloistered together. Sanyassan society is so warlike that they will choose to maintain barely-working weaponry and armour for decades at almost any cost, rather than to take up a more passive lifestyle. Their rough, four-fingered hands are much more likely to be wrapped tightly around a blaster than tapping away at a computer console.

Around a hundred years ago, a group of the "Marauders", who were criminals and pariahs even among their own race, hijacked a spacecraft. Unable to operate their advanced vessel, they crash-landed on the forest moon of Endor. There they built themselves a fortress, ruling over a section of the Endorian plains. These Sanyassans armed themselves with poorly maintained blasters and more conventional weapons. With these weapons, they were the only species on Endor with advanced technology.

Description
Qat Chrystak is in the Athega system and is the homeworld of the Qiraash people. It is a relatively nondescript planet, distinguished only by its hot, year-round temperatures. Erratic weather will bring snow to the northern-most portion of the planet, but it tends to reach the ground only during the coolest portions of the night and rarely survives beyond morning.

Qat Chrystak's atmosphere is breathable and the air is clean, while the majority of its terrain rock and desert. Within these barren landscapes there is a unique micro-climate, possibly the result of the variation in altitude and the nearby volcanic activity. It is a semi-tropical zone that divides the equatorial region of the planet north to south. Spread throughout this zone there are areas of jungle and swamp.

There is a small section of land near the center of the continent that has historically had several major volcanic events, though the last seismographic report about such an occurrence is over a century old. There is also a fair number of lava tubes scattered across the planet a result of its volcanic roots.

Qat Chrystak has two major cities that both contain starports to receive visitors and export trade goods to the rest of the galaxy. While most of the permanent residents are Qiraash, it has been boasted that every race of the galaxy has touched Qat Chrystak's soil at one time or another. The capital city is Korunaan, located on the equator and bordered by jungle and rock. Quatalone, the urban center to the south, is fenced on two sides by sporadically active and unstable volcanic areas while jungle and the rugged rocky plains to the north and east are likewise formidable neighbors.

Korunaan has highest population density of the planet's cities which works mainly in its industrial and agricultural centers. To the east, large tracts of farmland have long been eyed by developers as a potential expansion of the capital. In addition to its more profitable industries, Korunaan has a thriving cultural district which has nurtured several artists renowned throughout the sector. Korunaan is also where most of the planets resident Qiraash get their schooling through a unique distributed primary education and university system that integrates a incredibly long education cycle of 20 or more years with their various business endeavors. Due to this extensive training, Qat Chrystak's scientists are well-respected and desirable to offworld recruiters.

Quatalone in the south has a aquatic fishing trade based out of the submerged jungle area to the north that brings good profit to the city. The primary catch is a small, indigenous fish prized by naturopathic dietitians in many systems because it is high in nutrients for its size. Quatalone's most prized export, however, is an alcoholic beverage distilled from the remains of this very same fish that is sold all throughout the galaxy, though illegal in many systems.

Quatalone is smaller than Korunaan and does not have near as many landmarks, nor attempts at beautification. The local citizenry, however, is content with its construction and architecture, which blends it with the planet -- a world many believe may resemble the Qiraash's long forgotten homeworld.

The planet's surface is covered with molten rock, with large mesas of volcanic glass rising up from this unstable waterless ocean. Radioactive lava that scrambled computers and sensors spewed from the many fissures and crevasses that scoured the surface. The searingly hot temperatures and the toxic atmosphere made environmental suits an absolute necessity. Qat Chrystak's gravity was 1.4 times standard. [1]
The Qiraash are a race of near-humans with large cranial cavities. With a brain capacity about 25% larger than other races in the Galaxy, the Qiraash are generally self-assured of their superior intelligence. They are typically nomadic, living in small communities throughout the Outer Rim with some concentration on Qat Chrystak, though it is unknown where their true origins lie.

Qiraash resemble fair-skinned humans, but they are set apart by their larger skulls. Though mostly bald, they will typically have a narrow band of hair growing upward from the nape of their neck. When worn long, Qiraash often braid or style their hair into elaborate coifs. Qiraash facial features otherwise resembled those of Humans with high cheekbones. Though slightly smaller in stature, compared to other humanoid races, the Qiraash have a higher muscle density with average physical strength.

The Qiraash were unable naturally to interbreed with members of the Human species; however, with a certain amount of genetic manipulation, such couplings could produce viable offspring.

Society and culture
Known for their logical thinking and savage habits, the Qiraash also have superior survival instincts, which many argue border on precognition. Following these impulses can compel the Qiraash toward actions which may seem irrational to outsiders. While there are few records, and no reports of incidents within living memory, it is commonly believed that Qiraash will go so far as to eat their own offspring when they sense that their community is becoming overcrowded. Despite the potential for brutal results, the race's penchant for cool logic, decisiveness, and heightened instincts, have given them a reputation for mastery in the arts of subterfuge.
Polis Massa was once a desert planet with a multitude of mining colonies located on the surface. This planet was also home to the ancient race of the Eellayin, which the Polis Massans, the current inhabitants of the planet, believe to be their ancestors. The Eellayin were thought to live in underground cities such as Wiyentaah, the capital of this ancient race. However, long ago, a mysterious cataclysm destroyed the world and now, all that is left is a collection of lazily floating barren asteroids, which are remote and hidden from most of the Galaxy. The asteroids have a very strong gravitational pull, which would be harmful to those who wish to walk on their surface without the proper equipment or protection. Polis Massa is now a small, remote Archaeological Research settlement and has little to do with the more populated areas of the galaxy. However, these airless, barren asteroids are home to the strange and silent Polis Massan. Functioning, in recent history, as a remote archaeological research settlement, Polis Massa has little to do with the more populated areas of the galaxy.
Biology and appearance
The Polis Massan are a faceless race of xenobiologists who migrated to the Polis Massa asteroids in search of archeological remains of the Eellayin whose homeworld was destroyed in some cataclysm which created the asteroids. Little is known of their actual homeworld other than they too come from Subterrel sector, the same area of space that contains their asteroid home. With time they became so associated with the asteroid remains that they became known as the people of Polis Massa.

Polis Massans are short, thin beings with a flattened and pale face. They have grey hands each with four long, dexterous fingers. Polis Massans are mute and thus use sign language or machines to make their intentions known. Over the centuries, Polis Massans have developed a mildly telepathic brains and deep-focus eyes, due to many of them being miners, medics, or exobiologists. These beings have osmotic membrane faces and growth-rings circling their wiry bodies.

Society and culture
They are very fascinated by other alien species but they retain themselves from interaction with them. Their xenobiological records of the different cultures are believed to contain more information than the libraries at the core worlds, and that is a feat if we consider how rare their open contact with other cultures is.

In one of the rare dealings with outsiders the Polis Massans made contact with the Kaminoans, exchanging some of their xenobiological data for cloning technology. The Polis Massans have adapted this cloning technology for their needs, using it in hopes of reconstructing biological matter they find in their archeological digs. Needless to say, this technology has become very useful in their research of the past.

The Polis Massan have galactic-wide fame because of their compassion and kindness, while their also characteristic discretion was not as widely known. They hold a great value to freedom and life in any form and have such a peaceful nature and respect towards life that only rarely they would follow a soldier's career. Although they are able to protect themselves and their culture should the need arise, they are not an aggressive species and reject direct confrontations even when the greater goals of the species are at risk. [1]

The species in reality comes from the planet of Kallidah and should be called Kallidahin properly. They left their planet over five hundred years ago for Polis Massa.[1]

Biology and appearance
There are two species inhabiting the world of Utapau: the Pau`ans and the Utai. The Pau`ans are a long-lived race and are commonly referred to as the Ancients by off-worlders. They have an ashen and textured skin, onyx-colored eyes. Their lean humanoid bodies are enveloped in thick, layered attire that leaves only their heads and hands exposed. Female Pau`ans reveal even less of themselves and when in public they wear hoods with narrow cowls to conceal their faces. A Pau`an smile is to many a fearsome sight consisting of two rows of long, sharp incisors. The feral teeth are necessitated by a diet consisting entirely of raw meat. Pau'ans have four fingers and toes, but are more mobile than they appear.

Society and culture
Harsh climate on the surface of Utapau forced Pau`an civilization underground with the Utai, however, the race was marked by a natural aversion to sunlight before that point, which can explain the Pau`an`s pale complexion and pupil-less eyes. Even after becoming subterranean, Pau`ans rarely traveled outside of their city. A Pau`an may be well into late adulthood, which is marked in their fortieth year, before ever leaving the city of his or her birth. The isolation of individual city-states has led to distinct cultural and linguistic differences between their populations. For centuries, this heterogeneity resulted in prejudice and genealogies were strictly maintained to discourage unions outside of one's own city. Disagreements over lineages were capable of sparking bloody confrontations between rival burgs. Once united under a confederated planetary government, however, Utapau began to enjoy nearly four generations of peace, which in terms of long Pau`an lives, spans over 1000 years.

Pau`ans are further evolved than the Utai and they represent the public face of Utapau. The two races fill sympathetic roles, with the Utai performing the more menial functions, such as subjugating the wing-less dragons, while the Pau`an control the planetary government as well as its economic and political relations with the galaxy. In general, the Utapauns are a highly peace-loving peoples and keep neutral politic in the face of the galaxy. When under pressure by foreign governments, Pau`an diplomats are masters of appeasement and their long-lives afford them the patience to outlast most would-be oppressors. While rarely at the forefront of Utapau`s relations with the galaxy, Pau`an females out-number males three-to-one and hold the majority of power within a city. Acting as the head of the family, Pau`an women are also the architects of new cities and local governments. While females also dominate the fields of medicine and science, males lead Pau`an spiritual institutions which tend to emphasize serenity and the belief that a Pau'an's current existence is only a prelude to many more following death.

History
The Utapaun civilization began circa 57,000 years ago. It is believed that settlers traveled to Utapau hoping to find a hospitable world to colonize after the destruction of their homeworld. Some created homes in the sinkholes, while others lived on the surface. Over time, the species changed genetically, becoming the Pau'ans and the Utai, two species with many differences but some similarities. Eventually, a climate change, causing severe winds, forced the Pau'ans underground, into the sinkholes. The Utai welcomed the Pau'ans, and over time, the two societies merged together to live in a mutually beneficial civilization. Timon Medon was the Pau'an responsible for this, and he was held in high esteem by Pau'ans for his actions. [1]

Pau'ans were rarely found on a world other than Utapau, owing mainly to the remoteness of their planet. However, one individual who did achieve notoriety was the Pau'an Darth Desolous, who served as a Jedi prior to his fall to the dark side, when he became a Sith. Born approximately 3,500 years ago, Desolous joined the Jedi Order before being expelled due to his violent tendencies. He turned to the dark side, returned to Utapau, and trained a number of Pau'ans in melee combat. Desolous and his army killed a number of Jedi before he was defeated and killed by the Jedi Council at Yaga Minor. [1]

Pau'ans that left Utapau could be found as aides to nobles and senators. Having Pau'an aides was seen as a status symbol, much like having Caamasi advisors. As the Pau'ans were skilled leaders, some were recruited by the Corporate Sector Authority to work as managers of corporations. At one point, so many Pau'ans were recruited by companies that the CSA had to intervene and force businesses to take only a limited number of Pau'ans to be managers. [1]
Description
Orto is a desolate planet, found uncomfortable by most humanoids. A majority of the planet is covered in tundra, with a cluster of forests along the equator. It was originally discovered several years after the Great Sith War, though none of the humans on the survey ship attempted to explore in the subzero temperatures. It took a group of Talz adventurers to explore the planet during the Third Galactic Survey, towards the end of the reign of the Galactic Republic.

The Talz mentioned the planet was unremarkable on the surface, though complex clusters of natives could be found. Deep holes were dug near the equator, and small villages of Ortolans resided on the bottom of these deep holes. The Ortolans are large, pudgy creatures with long trunks, and come in a variety of shades, similar to Twi`leks. However, the color your skin is denotes your job or role in society: orange is a political career, green is a military career, red is a domestic job such as a doctor or a keeper of the peace, and blue is an entertainer, such as a musician or an actor. Many Ortolans left their planet with the Talz expedition, a majority of them being entertainers. Quickly establishing themselves, Ortolan entertainers became known as the best of the best

Orto is rarely visited by others, and is known to be a peaceful home to the Ortolan species. It is generally considered to be of little importance on a galactic scale, and the Ortolans are confident that by spreading their music and entertainment, they are making the galaxy a more aesthetic place that hopefully will not cast its eye on their homeplanet.
Biology and appearance
The Ortolans, elephantine bipeds, have a distinctive appearance, reinforced by their habit of dying their short, thick velvet fur that is generally white or grey into various bright colours. They are short in stature with big black eyes, a characteristic descended from their nocturnal ancestors that allows them to see well in dim light but can hinder or potentially even hurt them in bright light.

Known for their excellent sense of smell, Ortolans can detect food from great distances. Because food is scarce on their planet they are obsessed with it, which has led them to become renowned chefs and food connoisseurs. They use their fingertips to absorb their food, and also to use various fingered instruments to produce the fine tunes for which Ortolan musicians have become famous. This attribute is complemented by their trunk-like noses, which contain a tympanic organ that also contributes to their hearing.

Their outstanding hearing aids them in their musical endeavours, covering the entire sound range from subsonic to ultrasonic. To outside observers Ortolans may seem mute, but they communicate in the aforementioned extreme ranges of sound frequencies, using their noses and the small mouth located underneath. However, they are also able to communicate in the normal auditory range that can be heard by the majority of sentients.

Ortolans have adapted to the harsh conditions of their homeworld, Orto, with a layer of blubber beneath the surface of their skin, which insulates them against the ice-cold temperatures. This provides energy reserves in time of need and also results in their obese build.

Ortolans are born with their teeth and musculature fully developed. [1]

Society and culture
The tradition of dying their fur began when a Devaronian trader tried to sell Ortolans a shipment of food dyes—they considered dyeing their food a waste of time, but found dyed fur to be quite stylish. [1]

Education is the responsibility of their parents, though gifted youngsters would often be traded to other families to get specialized education. At the age of seven, Ortolans are expected to support themselves, and will be forced out of the family unit unless they had a particularly valuable talent. [1]

Ortolan society is reasonably industrialized, though not as technologically advanced as other species. Despite this, their economy is mostly based on barter, with credits primarily used to trade with offworlders. [1]

Common names among the Ortolans include: Bedo, Eembek, Miebar, Nabkess, Ooben, Ruznee. [1]
::Copying and pasting of good content should be okay - there are some decent character pages on both wikis, there are some good templates around, etc, but wanton copying for the sake of 'filling out the wiki' should be avoided. :::But that's exactly what's happening though. Already a number of articles on here display a clear lack of objectivity and are riddled with bias. Most of them also drift between IC and OOC with references to game mechanics, RL dates, and so forth. I thought the point here was that the Holocron was to be strictly IC, and the Compedia was notorious for mixing IC and OOC. I really hope some specific guidelines and rules will be set in place and actually enforced, otherwise more time will be spent cleaning up copied-and-pasted crap from Compedia and biased sources, rather than contributing actual quality content that could potentially make this a wiki of high quality that can be considered reliable. --Alex Tylger 14:01, 22 February 2011 (GMT)
:One of the original purposes of this wiki was to give a new home to content of the (mostly abandoned) Compedia, so there is nothing wrong with bringing in content from there (or other sources, as far as there are no copyright concerns).

:I am keeping an eye on the wiki atm and so far I am quite happy about what I see. Also I can not see at this point what anyone would need admin status for that he can not do just as well as a user. This wiki alerady has a team and a whole host of admins: Its users. I do take Wikipedia as a role model and I admit that it is not clear as of yet, if the SWC community will be able to live up to this model. But I also see no indication that it will not be able to do so and I don't want to destroy any chance for it from the start. Despite edit wars, cries over admin bias and emotional debates in the community, Wikipedia and its standards grew out of the basic principles that everyone has the equal opportunity to add, edit, move and delete. In short: It grew out of freedom and equal opportunities, combined with a software tool that makes it easy to revert true vandalism. If someone does not agree with the POV or quality of some articles, they can contribute material fromm other sources, rephrase the text or use the discussion page of the article to start a discussion on the matter in question. Wikipedia didn't get where they are by censoring content. Many articles on Wikipedia started out as horribly one-sided stubs. Still they were rarely deleted, and even more rarely by an admin. They were maintained and improved. By other users. You think an article is less than it could be? Improve it!

:I also feel like the standards and policies I laid out on the community portal so far are good enough, in any case at this point. What more should there be then 1/ keep it IC 2/ use a NPOV? And if you find the standards lackingyou can just what we are doing now: Start a discussion.

:We could possibly need more pages and more tools to help us with community functions, most notably some templates, as Wikipedia uses them, for marking articles that are too short or of low quality. But this should not be the job of any admin in a wiki, not even a team. It's the job of every singe user.

:I have to add that I am absolutely delighted about what I see so far. No one abused his options to edit and post so far, in one situation where someone posted some insincere joke in an article, it was quickly removed by another user. And someone corrected my typo on the starting page. :)

:So far it looks like people are using the wiki in a responsible and cooperative way. Different wikis are ... different. But they are best and strongest, if the users take charge of improving it. But this can not really happen, if we put a team in charge. We may need more moderators and admins at some point, but right now, the wiki needs freedom to grow more than anything else. I already have several offers for help and some of the people that posted in this discussion are clearly high on my list of people I may approach, should I see the need for more administration and moderation.

:I said I'll keep an eye on the wiki, but I have only two eyes and only that much time. You and all other users have to help me.

:Please do whatever it is that you want to do to improve the wiki. If someone puts OOC stuff in an article - (re)move it. If you know of an important opposing opinion - add it. If you think there is a mistake - fix it. All of you can change pages, suggest templates, add categories, make suggestions and convince people - please do so.

:Orphaea, I was writing a reply to you, I think I no longer have to send it, I think this is the far more adequate way to discuss this.--Dreighton 16:55, 22 February 2011 (GMT)
::Your comparison to Wikipedia isn't very good. For one, they do have processes where pages are deleted left right and center. They also do have bureaucrats that take care of reversions, moderate certain processes, handle templates, etc. They also have a hell of a lot more potential editors who might be inspired to rewrite an article.

::The problem with bringing stuff from the other wikis is that a lot of it is trash (Compedia), or heavily biased biased (the Galactic Archives, for example, is unashamedly pro-Imperial in parts; Compedia varies depending on who wrote a page). Many of the pages are little more than copy-and-pasted versions of faction websites, which are now the articles that are being moved over here. For instance, look at pretty much everything Vip Fortuna has posted - it's either copy and pasted from Compedia, or it reads like a faction advertisement (at least one page even generously mentions pricing arrangements), or both. Yes, I could edit them, but I won't - one because I'm unqualified to write material on those factions, and two because rather than getting a bunch of terrible articles and then having to go through and edit or mark all of them for future editing, we should encourage original quality material in the first place. It's admins, or a wiki team, that could do that kind of moderation. If I tried telling people now, as a random person, what they should be looking to contribute I'd get mercilessly flamed regardless of how much what I say actually follows the few rules we have down.

::Simply put: just because we're only starting out doesn't mean we need to encourage crap just for the sake of getting our article count up fast. Maintenance on random contributions will be more difficult than simply establishing some kind of framework in the first place. :::I agree with Alex, Orphaea and Ryan and have seen pretty much the same thing happen to Compedia 2.0 before it died out.
:::I have been on Wikipedia since 2004. I was even present when the German Wikimedia foundation was created. I was never deeply involved, but I think I have seen quite a bit of Wikipedia history from close up (German Wikipedia, of course). I know enough, that we are about to replicate some of the debates that shaped Wikipedia in the last few years, e.g the conflict between inclusionists and exclusionists. It may be easier to get straight form the start that I am a very dedicated Inclusionist. :)
:::Yes, rewriting is a real effort. But trying to replace this painful process with a traditional editing process is taking the true stength out of a wiki system. Of course you can also, technically, use a wiki system for group colaboration in a traditional editing process. If you say former wiki projects like Compedia failed it is, as I see it, more because they followed a closed rather than an open approach. And they were BY FAR more successful than any attempt we ever made in the Combine with more traditional editing processes (e.g. the newsletter). Compedia etc are far from flawless, but other, admin and team centered projects never realy made it off the ground.
:::::Thank you for this discussion in here. At first I was very attracted by the idea to have a common wiki about IC events/stories/etc. I was aware that since all that participate in this wiki write about their own things, most articles will be either biased and thus criticized/edited by their IC-enemies. I now can get very cheap and say that Orphaea used me as a negative example (in his eyes) for contributions to the wiki since we are on opposing sides in game. --Vip Fortuna 21:01, 24 February 2011 (GMT)
::::::I don't think that is what motivated him, Vip. The issue is really that Compedia was a free for all where individuals and groups were free to write whatever they wanted, often heavily influenced by their IC perspective and bias. I believe that the Holocron should strive to be something greater than what Compedia was. Not just a collected archive of self-glorifying biographies and propaganda, but rather an objective source of information where the content is authored in such a manner that it can be seen as objective. That means having to step outside ones character and consider the material as a player, not a character. I am fully in agreement with Orph that the initial article regarding the TAR was filled with quite apparent bias as well as IC/OOC crossover. Since then, I see you've taken steps to modify some of the content and that's great. When it comes to the ORE article, I figure it was tagged because the "Descriptions" section, for example, is largely that faction's view of itself. It is not really an objective perspective in some ways, as the description reads more like faction propaganda than a wiki article. I figure if the descriptions section is to be included, it could be in the form of a quote with the clear marking that it was authored by the company to promote itself. In any case, I would advocate that we all strive to leave our characters at the door when working on the Holocron and maintain a level of professionalism and respect each other enough to maintain a mature level of discussion.--Alex Tylger 21:40, 24 February 2011 (GMT)

For sub-faction organisational units (e.g. Imperial Navy), should these be their own page and risk conflict between similar pages, or be subpages of the main faction page (e.g. Galactic Empire/Imperial Navy)? Or should pages of this type be avoided altogether and any relevant information incorporated into sections on the appropriate pages? Obviously we'd need to cap things at a certain limit, e.g. a page for the Imperial Navy might be appropriate, but for every Imperial military unit that has ever existed may be a bit excessive. == British or American? ==
:I would say that either can be used, but an article should adhere to just one form for the sake of consistency.--Alex Tylger 04:01, 26 February 2011 (GMT)
::I was thinking more for categories e.g. :Category:Organisations vs :Category:Organizations. Having multiple categories pop up with variations in spelling would be tedious. Orphaea Imperium 04:10, 26 February 2011 (GMT)
:I gave it some thought and found it very difficult to decide this. If we follow the Wikipedia manual of style (which is something I suggest we stick to, as it is a lot easier to refer to an existing standrad for something like this than having to draft on on our own) we should allow all vareities of English, as long as it is consistent for any one article. On the other hand, the Combine clearly favours British - or as Khan would put it international - English over American English. Of course players and factions may use whatever they like for their websites, chats and DMs but the website itself and the rules are not US English. SO I would rather favour British over American English for the wiki as the norm.--Dreighton 10:23, 26 February 2011 (GMT)
Rewriting History
The Holocron is IC, but though much of SWC's history the line has been marginal at best, or ignored regularly. This makes it hard when adding historical documents, which often make reference to 'the game', 'factions' ,'NFGs', 'IRC', 'forum', 'ICQ', etc. - all terms that don't exist IC (or at least not in that context).

My question is - should we keep historical documents intact for posterity or rewrite them as minimally as possible for IC appropriateness (or do both)? Orphaea Imperium 01:01, 1 March 2011 (GMT)
:In my opinion, since this is an IC wiki, it is acceptable to edit content that seems to be in a grey zone between IC and OOC, yet still has importance to the game's history. For the Allied Tion article I have quotes from the diplomatic talks, but I have every intention of editing them to some extent to make it more explicitly IC. --Alex Tylger 01:06, 1 March 2011 (GMT)
:::Alternatively we keep the rewritten version of the wiki and link to an off-site source with the original content. --Alex Tylger 01:12, 1 March 2011 (GMT)
::::After all the research I've done, I don't trust SWC hosting to remain accessible in the long term, let alone off-site sources. Orphaea Imperium 01:16, 1 March 2011 (GMT)
:I share Orphea's concerns, all of them. I also appreciate the concern about keeping source material intact. I feel like we may need something like Wikisource, just to store all source material in unedited form. At the same time, it is probably impractical to have a seperate Wiki. I suggest we use a seperate namespace or a category for source material and articles can refer to these pages. Articles could then clip and edit source material for quoting or just refer to the source. Of course any edits should still be recognizable as an edit, perferrably by using brackets for edits. For occasional minor OOC refrences we should probably take a pragmatical approach. If there is a good way to edit them out or replace them easily to make it more IC, we should go for it, but sometimes it will be better to tolerate a bit of OOC for the sake of making things easier to comprehend. I would appreciate, if everyone could share his oppinion if we should rather use a category or a namespace for source material. I think a namespace would be more logical, but a category may be easier to handle.--Dreighton 08:26, 1 March 2011 (GMT)
::A namespace or second site effectively means maintaining two pages for one historical document with minimal linking. ==Rewriting History - Characters==

A similar, but more sensitive issue - should we rewrite character backstories to follow what would be the expected path? For example, some older Imperials will have stories like 'rebels killed my family' (or vice versa), but given the current SWC timeline, that would make them teenagers when they were also Grand Admirals and the like. Do we let the inconsistencies stay to keep the stories intact, or should we go ahead and edit them for conformity? Orphaea Imperium 14:19, 1 March 2011 (GMT)
CGT Day/Time Variables
MediaWiki has several in-built variables, e.g. PAGENAME. Could we get some custom variables added, e.g. CGTDAY and CGTYEAR for the current SWC day/year respectively? == Community Admins ==

At this point I just want to make it aware that no one gives about the rules we wanted people to follow in this wiki and as far as I'm concerned I'm not going to clean up after everyone's articles and add categories or fix OOC mistakes. I strongly recommend a group of community middles is created in order to literally take care of things and prevent people from 'doing whatever they want'. Who is going to select a featured article every month? And who is going to take care of "This week in history" in the following years? I'm sorry but this is just not going to work and that's my professional opinion. The situation is bad now already, why are there so many articles about the Empire? And a lot other pages which are all OOC, have we lost the ICness? At any rate I guess everyone is just going to take care of his/her own articles from now on, good luck to us all. --Ryan Roche 13:56, 4 March 2011 (GMT)

:The reason that there's so many articles about the Empire is probably in part because the two administrators most involved are former Imperials adding old content (much of which, I should point out, is obscure or has otherwise been lost via other sources), and in part because the Empire has a reasonably well developed wiki of its own with a number of good and (relatively) neutral articles that can be brought over with minimal work. I could go and make pages for all the RA Supreme Commanders like I have the Emperors, I suppose, but I'm far more qualified to write about the Emperors than the SCs (and thus far more likely to return to fill them out when I get the time).
:And I am seeing a general improvement in the standards, if not the writing. People seem generally to be uploading images and using templates and categories correctly, even if there are bias/OOC issues with content. With more articles being created and improved (as is slowly happening), and with the new main page design with a reasonably prominent link to the guide, I think people will get more easily familiar with what we expect and when they come to start writing they'll do it properly.
:We're still in the relatively early stages (though a number of us have done a proportionally great deal of work towards it); of course we're going to have growing pains.
:This doesn't all mean that I'm against community admins simply to keep things tidy (deleting pages, images, etc. as necessary rather than people blanking pages and making them untrackable / relying on Dreighton to do it all) - indeed, I think it should be an official team like the Art Team or Galaxy Team - but we've already been told that's not happening, and I can't see much that has significantly changed for the worse that would be convincing now. Orphaea Imperium 15:51, 4 March 2011 (GMT)
::Thanks, Orphaea, that is already most of what I would have to say on the matter. About blanked pages: You can use the "to be deleted" category to mark pages for deletion. That would make it easy for me to check for them. (I carted the category http://holocron.swcombine.com/wiki/Category:To_Be_Deleted, but I think it is not showing up correctly on the cetegories page, even if I don't really know why this is. In general pages should rarely be deleted, even if they are e.g. not following naming guide e lines. It would usually be a better idea to make a redirect, simply because there is a high chance a different user will create the page anew at some point. Actually a blanked page or a redirect is easier to track than a deleted page (even if this is possible, too). So if you find a page no longer needed, consider the possibility to make a redirect.--Dreighton 16:03, 4 March 2011 (GMT)
SWC Wiki vs Wookieepedia
I've noticed quite a lot of pages recently have been using Wookieepedia citations and information about various planets and races. Is this considered an acceptable path to take considering that we have our own information about each race within the Combine? I would hate to think that we are becoming a clone of wookieepedia for our pages, especially when it isn't considered a validated source when we apply it to other areas of the Combine. I'd like to know what the thoughts are of this?--Dakha Rednax 10:39, 06 May 2011 (GMT)

:My thoughts are such: The Guide says: "While SWC is derived from canon, the whole point of SWC is that it isn't canon and lacks all the heroes and much of the history we're familiar with in favour of our own characters and history. By all means refer to canon information where appropriate, or provide references to canon sources (e.g. Wookiepedia), but don't get canon information confused with SWC information."
:It doesn't say we can't add it, it says to be careful and not to copy things that are not compliant to SWC timeline. So I ditch every mention of canon SW characters (like Thrawn in the Chiss article), and every mention of the happenings from the canon SW Empire period onwards.
:I also do not repeat information that is already in SWC. I add information when it's missing from SWC (planets' orbital periods, common names for races, ancient history etc.)

:My thought is: many newbies will refer to Holocron as the information source. The descriptions in SW Combine Database (Rules page) are sometimes confusing. No paragraphs in some of them, no order...; little information on the society and history of each race. So a newbie will probably type the name of the race into Google... and the first thing to pop up will be Wookieepedia. Some information there conflicts with Combine. And a newbie will try to use Thrawn in his Chiss character's background, for example, not knowing they don't go together.
:So to prevent such situations, it's better to have the relevant information in the Holocron, this way the said newbie will find everything in one place and will not get confused (because he won't need to look into Wookieepedia, he won't probably even notice the differences/disrepancies/what call you).

:Besides, I think adding such information makes it easier to roleplay, say, Twi'lek character. That's one of the reasons I try so hard to find example names.

::I realize why you've done it however some things are inconsistent with SWC. For example race descriptions, if I take the example of the Dug since it caught my notice playing a Dug myself you make mention of events surrounding Malastare. This is inconsistent with SWC history and no explanations appear to describe how one canon event transfers into SWC when different events occurred. Obviously if there is a correlation between the events made through the documentation of factions then I wouldn't see a problem with that but what I see as an overuse of wookieepedia to be used as just filler for the sake of creating a page, which I make my point again is not considered an appropriate source in other aspects of SWC's develop i.e. Races, Galaxy suggestions. This overuse will eventually create continuity errors and displacements with SWC own timeline which doesn't follow canon events.

::I would like to echo Dakha's concerns and add a question - Does refer mean copy and paste entire passages from wookieepedia?
::Unless one rewrites and adopts the canon information from wookiee simple copypasting creates a lot more issues than it solves. Each instance will have to be tracked, verified, corrected by multiple people who actually know what happened and until then it will be misinforming an unfortunate newbie and putting things into his mind that are contrary to the combine's and holocron's design and intention... --Xanyarr Chyakk 12:00, 6 May 2011 (GMT)

::: Give me a shout on my userspace's talk page or on the relevant pages' talk and I will fix the problem(s) myself. I mostly work on races and planets - I'd like to have all the races and their homeworlds well documented in the Holocron for the newbies' benefit (after all, I'm a newbie myself :D)
::: And I'm trying to adapt the info from my source, be it old Compedia or Wookiee, but I'm not a native speaker of English and I'm afraid of losing something important in the process of rewriting. So I prefer to copy/paste stuff with minimal ingerention. -- Kinsa Rha, 6.05.2011, 12:47 GMT

:::: I've done some revisions of the Dug page and explained there some of the things I've had issues with. I think we need someone to revise pages that are referenced from wookieepedia. I'm happy to take on the task myself. Some things such as dates of when events happened shouldn't be included because we don't really go by BBY/ABY. I'm going to try and find out actual historical events in SWC and how the groups over those planets view the transition of canon to SWC events.Dakha Rednax, 10:40, 07 May 2011

:::: I have no problem with your revisions or you taking on the task, quite the opposite. I don't know the exact year difference between Year 0 in our timeline and the Battle of Yavin, so I usually try to give vague dates, like "some five thousand years ago". - Kinsa Rha, 07.05.2011, 10:59 GMT
Kinsa Rhahttp://holocron.swcombine.com/index.php?title=Talk:Dug&diff=8525Talk:Dug2011-05-07T10:57:03Z
Kinsa Rha:

Ok, I've revised almost all aspects of this page and removed the reference links for now. Onto what has been revised.

1) A lot of the information listed didn't make sense. Sometimes the information was past tense "the Dug were" and sometimes it was present "the Dug are" so I've revised it.

2) Information was posted twice. Information which is supposedly historical ended up in the social and cultural areas and then reposted in the historical area. This seems to be pointless and not properly proof-read. I would advise next time to make sure you can discern what is historical and what is social and construct proper paragraphs accordingly.

3) I, realize, that, wookieepedia, likes, to, place, commas, everywhere, however this does not form proper sentence structure and much of that has been removed. Unless you actually speak like you're short of breath all the time I found that with the information there many of the commas could be removed.

4) The information was fractured. One sentence briefly discussed Dug physiology and went onto mating rituals and then the next paragraph went back to Dug physiology and onto something else. Everything relating to race physiology should be in one paragraph, everything else should be grouped together according to relevance.

Finally, some of the information references canon events from wookieepedia which does not match information from SWC. For example the Dug description in SWC mentioned what the Old Republic did whereas the information from wookieepedia mentions what the Galactic Republic did. For the sake of differentiation and something I will bring up in SWC Wiki vs Wookieepedia we need to have a clear understand of what government did what and what they were known by. I've re-edited everything to be Galactic Republic due to the Old Republic's existence in SWC as a safety precaution. I've also edited out years, 8000 BBY, I mean I don't even know if we even had a battle of yavin since no death star exists in SWC and I would prefer we stick to the timeline dates as they are in the list of chronological events.--Dakha Rednax

:Thank you very much. I realize you're all a lot better at both Wiki and Combine than myself, that's why I asked for help.
:In most places I try to give vague dates and get rid of exact BBY dates, and replace Old Republic with Galactic Republic for the reason you mentioned. If I missed something - apologies.
:I tried to avoid doubling information, if I did - apologies. English is not my native language. Same goes for information fracturing.
:About the tenses - I noticed the fact that the Wookiee has everything in Past Simple only recently. Now I keep to the Present Simple. - Kinsa Rha, 7.05.2011, 10:56 GMT
Kinsa Rhahttp://holocron.swcombine.com/index.php?title=Nimban&diff=8521Nimban2011-05-07T09:52:14Z
Kinsa Rha: info from SWC and a single sentence from Wookieepedia

Description
Nimban is a solid planet of average size with a circle orbit around its sun, X-198, of 532 days. The rotation period is 32 hours.

The atmosphere, of several hundred kilometers, is dense and is composed of oxygen and nitrogen. The median temperatures over the continent are steady, though over the oceans the temperatures can fluctuate rapidly. The storms in Nimban are abundant and has an important size, with strong winds and rain. The surface is composed of 85% water and only 15% land. All the land is distributed in the form of a great continent from equator to south pole.

The axial inclination is negligible, so there are no seasons in Nimban. Due to this all the water in the poles are frozen, and the temperatures are constant. The continent has wide and thick jungles in the equator zone, where big reptiles and little mammals lives. Far south the jungle disappears into a vast and dry desert until the great chain of mountains that cross the continent from east to west. In the west of this chain of mountains there is great volcanic activity. After the mountains the weather is colder, with mixed and conifer forests. The mammals are the sole inhabitants of these forests, and have been since the planet was first discovered following the Freedon Nadd uprising.

The only one important city of Nimban is in the east cost, in the boundary between the jungle and the desert, the centre of both residential and industrial complexes, it has a steady economy and a growing number of jobs.

The planet is famous for voluntarily leaving the Galactic Republic in order to join the Hutt Space. [1]
The Nimbanese are a humanoid race has hairless, walrus-like heads with stringy reddish beards and lacking tusks. A single member of the species is called a Nimbanel. The Nimbanese race is reptilian, but has a warm-blooded metabolism. As a race, they are regarded as arrogant and snobbish, but they place great value in knowledge and ethics.

Native to the planet Nimban, they evolved from herbivorous creatures faced with increasingly resilient plant species.

Society and culture
Nimbanese evolution was driven by the need to develop problem-solving skills in order to get food from the traveling plants of Nimban, such as the puzzleflower and the boyy'lo. As their society developed, competitive puzzle-solving skills were used to settle clan rivalries instead of the open warfare used by other primitive cultures. In competitions called muhndees, a clan presents its rivals with a logic puzzle or mathematical problem to be solved within a year. This interest in competitive logic led the Nimbanese to develop new ways to obfuscate and convolute meaning. Over the centuries, this led to the development of a highly complex bureaucracy. Rather than stockpiling weapons, rival clans would stockpile information and challenge one another with mountains of paperwork. [1]

They have become highly adept at solving complex puzzles and questions, and turned to mental battles when many races would have initiated wars.

After developing spaceflight and colonizing several planets in the Nimban system, they were discovered by the Galactic Republic, which they soon joined. The Nimbanels, having been tested by their own complex bureaucracy, easily found niches in the comparatively simple systems of the Republic. [1]

Noting that Hutt Space was expanding towards Nimbanese territory, they approached Zochaeb the Hutt and made a deal: Hutts would have access to all of the Nimbanese databanks, and the Nimbanels would owe allegiance to the Hutt Clan of Ancients. [1]

Since becoming associates of the Hutts, Nimbanels were found throughout the galaxy as bureaucrats and business adminstrators for legitimate businesses, governments, and Hutt criminal interests. [1] The Hutts regularly employ Nimbanese as accountants and negotiators.

Some sample Nimbanese names are: Beels Lebeleb, Nirbella Tanless, Prenlarr Brelm, Sarab Mullo.
Description
Muunilinst is the Muun homeworld and the headquarters of many important galactic corporations, including the InterGalactic Banking Clan. It has a breathable atmosphere and a beautiful scenery, with large rolling plains, huge forests and long mountain lines. Though the large majority of the population is Muun, some inmigrated Humans and Iotrans can be found, as well as many traders and businessmen belonging to many different races.

The planet developed quickly as a key trading and financial centre as the Muun became a spacefaring race and founded many large corporations. The Muun have colonised other worlds which they keep as purse worlds, like the Neimoidians do, but Muunilinst is the only home they knew. The large Muun companies are based in enormous bustling cities with a very solemn architecture. Gleaming buildings and towers of marble, with dozens of pillars supporting them, shine against the warm sunlight the Muunilinst sun gives. These cities dot the plains here and there, and are the key centres of activity of the planet, which always has been full of starships travelling to and fro, carrying important businessmen. The largest buildings are the headquarters of important banking corporations, manufacturing companies and other businesses which employ thousands of Muun throughout the galaxy. Muunilinst was the site of several battles on land and space when it attempted to secede from the Old Republic, together with thousands of other systems, over two and a half decades ago. However, the Muun leaders of the separatist plot were captured and Muunilinst remained within the Republic.

The planet is nicknamed Moneylend, probably due to its wealth. [1]

Muunilinst is a lush world of forests, plains, and tall, jagged mountain peaks. It has a liquid iron core, a strong magnetic field, and was volcanically active throughout its known history. Its shallow oceans contain hundreds of "smokers", conical volcanoes built up by powerful vents in the crust. Many, though not all, of these smokers spew out superheated gases containing rich, pure precious metals from the planet's core. The very cones surrounding these vents are made up of layers of precious metals, mixed in with the mollusks, tube-worms, and bioluminescent ferns nurtured by the heat and water. It is these natural formations that provided the Muuns with the almost inexhaustible wealth to guarantee the credit of the entire galaxy. [1]

Locations
The greatest Muun city is Harnaidan, the headquarters of the IGBC. Built around a series of magnificent spires reaching four kilometers into the sky, Harnaidan has a population of more than fifty million. It is built above caverns containing vast, naturally heated lakes, enormous hot springs heated by magma vents. While the higher castes go about their daily business, lower castes swim through the rich waters, collecting mollusks and algae. [1]

A skyhook connects Harnaidan with High Port, an orbital city. The Golan space defense platforms defending Muunilinst can be seen from here, as well as a magnificent view of the planet glittering below. Mariunhus is a particularly rich city built around a smoker rich in gold, platinum, and other precious metals. Mariunhus is an example of a "vault-spire," a virtual mountain of wealth, kept safe and secure, which could be mined at a moment's notice to guarantee credit anywhere in the galaxy. Other smokers were known for industrial metals and were known as "mine-spires." [1]

History
The former subjects of the Rakata during the time of the Infinite Empire, the Muuns eventually achieved their independence. All throughout the Galactic Republic era, Muunilinst had a knack for funding potentially profitable enterprises throughout its sector, regardless of ethics or loyalty. It provided much of the funding for the nearby Human colony world of Sartinaynian. At some point in their history the Muuns also colonized the planet of Mygeeto, which much like Muunilinst itself would become wealthy and an important financial center. [1]

Eventually, both Muunilinst and Sartinaynian came to be member worlds in the Galactic Republic, and Muunilinst became one of the greatest financial powers in the galaxy. When the Republic established the Galactic Credit, the InterGalactic Banking Clan was its guarantor and distributor. The corruption of the Banking Clan was largely unchecked as the Republic fell into decline, and with the looming threat of the breakdown of law and order, they invested in thousands of droids to discourage customers from defaulting on their loans.
Overview
An old and successful race, the Muun have spent a great deal of their history ranked amongst some of the most financially successful cultures in existence. Hailing from the world of Muunilinst, the richness of their world has been regarded by many as the impetus towards competition and greed which characterises the species.

Biology and appearance
Typically taller than the average human, the average Muun sticks out in a crowd of other species. Gaunt to the point of looking unhealthy to most humanoids, their long and spindly limbs, while matching the proportions of their elongated skulls, lend them an emaciated, severe appearance. Hairless and pale as much from genetics as from a racial aversion to the outdoors, the Muun focus their impressive intellects on matters of economics and mathematics, even the youngest being able to solve complex equations without the aid of computers.

Muuns also had tiny ears on the middle of the sides of their heads. In addition they had flat noses, and slim mouths. Muun voices often sound nasally, due to their small noses.[1]

Society and culture
Governed by a strict, caste based meritocracy, the upper crust of Muun society is made up of those directly concerned with economics; be they lawyers, financiers, or diplomats arranging large trade agreements. Lower caste Muuns typically work in more menial but related positions, and strive to improve their family's standing by ensuring that their children do well on the tests administered via the education system. Those shown to be worthy of such an elevation in caste by the tests soon find themselves spirited away into high society, their low-born families proud of their success and often benefiting financially from the new status of their child.

So much of Muun society is centred around the acquisition and exercise of wealth that even their language has come to embody the simple positive and negatives of ledgers and balances. Almost exclusively composed of "um" and "eh" sounds, uttered in varying combinations of pitch and tone, their predominately binary language is largely devoid of imprecision. A language of economics and absolutes, the Muun often find themselves resorting to foreign, and less precise tongues when needing to discuss a matter that fails to fall neatly into one category or another. While naturally nasal sounding, due to the smallness of the Muun mouth and nose, even when speaking another language the harsh voices of most Muun are strangely melodic.

Seemingly at odds with this absolute precision of language however, is the Muun tendency towards amorality in their business dealings. Originally founding the InterGalactic Banking Clan during the early days of the Old Republic, the Muun have worked as backers of standardised galactic currencies and have funded colonies, profitable enterprises, and even entire wars when it fit their plans. Willing to play both sides of a conflict off each other and lining their pockets all the time, the Muun have developed a reputation of being ruthless, yet almost honest in their ethical indifference. Those used to dealing with the race retain several teams of lawyers to assemble contracts, as the Muun tend to keep to the letter of the law rather than the original intent, and have no qualms against ruthlessly exploiting other races.

Muuns are extremely intelligent, and both greedy and cautious when it came to business ventures. They are lured to profitable and vulnerable economic situations or opportunities, yet took long thought before committing themselves to a business deal. Muuns' talent with money stemms from their extremely valuable mathematical and statistical skills. Muun children are known to calculate complex mathematical formulas as quickly as most adults of other species could.[1]

In addition to being greedy and cautious, Muuns also deem themselves to be a reserved, mature species, capable of controlling their emotions, and deemed other species as immature, and felt no remorse in exploiting them, if need required them to do so. Muuns possess a drive to compete with other races and even among themselves, which also contributes to higher rates of economic output anywhere Muuns were located. Muuns also have a fundamental respect for fairness and justice, however, and regarded a contract as almost a sacred trust. Muuns were known to always follow the letter of the law, though often not the spirit.[1]

History
Early in their history, the Muuns founded the InterGalactic Banking Clan, which came to span not only the galaxy, but smaller satellite galaxies as well. Due to its immense mineral wealth, Muunilinst was used to give weight to the Galactic Credit, making its importance in Galactic society almost incomparable to many, if not most Core Worlds. [1]

Muuns, all throughout the time of the Galactic Republic, had a knack for funding potentially profitable enterprises throughout its sector, regardless of ethics or loyalty. Muunilinst provided much of the funding for the nearby Human colony world of Sartinaynian. At some point in their history the Muuns also colonized the planet of Mygeeto, which, much like Muunilinst itself, would become wealthy and and an important financial center. [1]
Eventually, both Muunilinst and Sartinaynian came to be member worlds in the Galactic Republic, and Muunilinst became one of the greatest financial powers in the galaxy. The power and influence of the Banking Clan was largely unchecked as the Republic fell into decline and corruption. [1]
Biology and appearance
Lannik are small humanoid beings, around 1.25 metres tall, and weigh between thirty and fourty five kilograms. Males and females are equally tall, although the latter have a considerably less strong complexity. Their race is, however, much more vigorous and resistent than what its size could suggest. Lannik usually have pale skin, though some Lannik have skin which ranges from dark red to orange, and from dark blue to purple tones. A Lannik's skin tends to be of colours similar to his or her eyes and hair. The race has evolved long pointy ears which are very sensible and allows them to hear better than human ears. Due to this, the Lannik language is spoken softly, and it is considered insulting to shout. Nowadays, Lanniks speak Basic too, but have the noisy habit to use a volume much more inferior that usual.

Society and culture
The Lannik culture is apparently war loving, and Lanniks feel a great respect for warroirs. At the same time, though, they follow a strict centuries-old code of honour. Lannik soldiers have the custom of tying all their hair in a single topknot over their head. Their race is one of fierce warriors, whose abilities have developed fighting against terrible predators and other Lanniks in a long history of wars. Although many regard the Lannik as hotheaded and temperamental, they are quite fearless and clear-headed even in combat, giving them the ability to think their way out of a dangerous situation. The Lannik do not show their thoughts through their facial expressions, and seem always angry to other races. They are also very stubborn, and are not likely to change career once they chose it. Most males - and many females - serve in the planetary militia, celebrating the species' past as a warrior race. Some take on off-world mercenary work.

The Lannik homeworld was first discovered by a group of Human and Duros explorers, who brought high technology to Lannik. The natives' exposure to this technology split Lannik society into factions, each with its own thoughts on how to integrate that technology into their society. Conflicts raged on Lannik, forcing the intervention of several criminal groups, and finally, the Galactic Republic itself, which restricted the amount of technology exported to the planet. This did not go as planned, serving only to increase the amount of technology on Lannik, and also entrenched crime syndicates on the planet. This led to the rise of the terrorist group known as the Red Iaro. [1]
Description
Lannik is found along the border between the Mid Rim and the Expansion Region. It is a habitable planet with enormous untrespassed jungles and many unexploted natural resources. Among the native fauna the flejj beast is noted. Apart from this predator, Lannik has breeded other species, including sentient humanoid creatures called Lannik. The planet, and its sentient inhabitants, was discovered not too long ago by Duro colonists, which brought developed tecnology to the Lannik. The discussions between the Lannik authorities on what to trade in exchange for this technology opened the planet to pirates, and finally caused the Galactic Republic to restrict the amount of technology exported to the planet. This only made criminal groups stronger, and caused the planet to suffer several decades of turmoil when a group of terrorists known as the Red Iaro tried to overthrow the existing monarch and his government. The conflict ended decades ago, leaving the planet in a state of uneasiness and isolation for years, which continues until now.

Unlike most other Republic planets, the considerable natural resources and mineral wealth of Lannik were largely unmined and unexploited, making it a tempting prize for enterprising would-be manipulators. [1]
Description
Klatooine is a desert planet, located within the Si'Klaata Cluster, and the homeworld of the Klatooinian race, found deep in Hutt Space.

The Klatooinian is alien race native to Klatooine, indentured to the Hutts since before the rise of the Old Republic. Along with the Vodran and Nikto races, the Klatooinians have served the Hutts since the battles against Xim the Despot. They are a tall, humanoid race with flat, canine faces and coarse skin. The Klatooinian culture is strongly tied to traditional values, and has been as patient and tenacious as the Fountain of Ancients. They also, like the Fountain, strove to grow stronger with age. The Klatooinians have often referred to themselves as the Children of the Fountain, since they have developed many of the Fountain's characteristics. At the age of ten, every Klatooinan is sold into servitude, usually to local governments. Especially troublesome youths are sold into slavery. This helps the young Klatooinans learn to respect and admire their elders and the traditions of their people. However, they have forever been under the oppression of the Hutts. Like the Fountain of the Ancients, the Klatooinans hope that they can endure long enough to grow strong with age and shed the Hutt yolk.

Fountain of the Ancients is a unique natural phenomenon located in the center of the Derelkoos Desert. In a bowl-shaped depression, liquid wintrium seeps from the desert sand and begins to crystallize. As it solidifies over several millenia, the wintrium forms wonderful shapes and patterns, continually expanding and growing. Because of its hardness, the Fountain's shape can be altered only by powerful weaponry, and has stood untouched for as long as the Klatooinian race can remember. The Fountain's continually growth, increasing strength, and tenacity have instilled similar values in the Klatooinian people. It also has certain religious connotations to them. Wintrium this glass-like substance remains in liquid form at very low temperatures, and can take as much as 10,000 years to solidify under normal conditions. It is found in the Derelkoos Desert of Klatooine, where it seeps from the desert and creates incredibly beautiful, natural sculptures. The Klatooinans call the landmark the Fountain of the Ancients, and revere it for its tenacious and wonderful existence.

The Derelkoos Desert is famous for the Fountain of the Ancients. Found in the center of the desert, the Fountain rests in a bowl-shaped depression. From this depression, liquid wintrium seeps. The wintrium forms fabulous, enduring shapes and patterns as it hardens over many centuries. The Fountain holds many cultural significances for the Klatooinian people.

Paddy Frogs are flat, bloated amphibians are native to the planet Klatooine. The Hutts used to consume these creatures as appetizers. He preferred them preserved in brandy, which added flavor and kept these vicious little frogs from attacking each other.

The pak'pah fruit is found nowhere else in the galaxy, possibly because of wintrium in the soil. The Lesser Houdoggin, which are a Hutt delicacy, come from this world. [1]
The Klatooinians are tall, humanoid beings. Their skin is rough, with color ranging from olive green to dark brown. They have a flat nose and a canine muzzle, with dark eyes under thier thick heavy brows. The severe desert climate of their homeworld has made their species strong and enduring. To survive in their hostile world was a mark of great physical and mental strength. That is why the Klatoonians respect and admire the elderly and experienced of their kind.

Society and culture
The Klatooinians are a proud people and are traditionalists, used to following the traditions laid by their ancestors. They also have a strong religious upbringing, that can tie them down, as a species or a clan, to another entity, be it a Hutt or a crime syndicate or even a governing faction. When a Klatooinian makes a vow, you can rest assured that he will do anything in his power to complete their vow. But you can also be assured that if a Klatooinian ever vowed to kill you, you will be hunted till the Klatooinian or you had been killed. Thus is the way of thier species.

This religious steadfast pride and loyalty, coupled with their strong statures, has made the Klatooinians ideal for guard duty, since anyone with an ounce of intelligence would think twice about trying to rush a Klatooinian. They have been a favorite to crime syndicates and Hutts for their steadfast loyalty, and you would never have to think twice about them if they made a vow.

Klatooinian civilization is notable for its strong belief in tradition and the wisdom of elders. The center of their culture is the Fountain of Ancients, a slowly evolving natural glass sculpture on Klatooine's Derelkoos Desert. Long before the formation of the Galactic Republic, primitive Klatooinians discovered the Fountain, and revered it as a symbol of patience, tenacity, and the idea of strength coming from age. [1]

Their society is ruled by a Council of Elders, which grants young Klatooinians few rights. Klatooinians are taught the myths and traditions of their people from a young age, in a process which tended to suppress individuality. At the age of ten, they would be sold into servitude, with the most rebellious youths sent into the harshest conditions. [1]
Description
Dorin is one of the most luxurious planets in the galaxy, though only few are able to enjoy it. The planet is located between two black holes, providing it with the most unusual atmosphere that has been proven to be very toxic to a majority of species throughout the universe. It is the home of the famed Kel Dor race. The Kel Dor, who have genetically been built to withstand such harsh elements, inhabit a majority of the planet’s surface. Due to this genetic structure, this also requires Kel Dor traveling away from Dorin to wear anti-ox masks to filter out the harmful oxygen atoms.

Much of the planets economy rests on technology and tourism. The planets surface is filled with natural resources, just as are many of the other planets surrounding Dorin in the system. Dorinian products are highly regarded in the galactic market and greatly valued throughout the galaxy. Though the harsh atmosphere is deadly to many beings, that hasn’t stopped a surplus of outsiders to stop on Dorin. The Kel Dor, being very accommodating hosts, provide numerous oxygen-rich facilities and buildings, allowing for a comfortable stay to all outsiders. In fact, a majority of all the buildings on Dorin have their own state-of-the-art oxygen enrichment systems. Kel Dor usually find it more suiting to be generous hosts, requiring them to wear their anti-ox masks on their home planet, than to have their guests be in discomfort.

The geography of the planet is the primary cause for the surge in the tourist industry. Three long mountainous regions make up a majority of Dorin's surface: the Ezion Mountains, which covers much of the western portion of the planet; the Ukric Mountains, which are clustered together in the northern region; and the Dorel Mountains, which are located in the east. The peak of Mount Knor, one of the more scenic areas of the planet, is located in Dorel Mountains, near the tourist city of Tadmor. The capital city of Tarsus lies in a low forest valley between the Ezion and Ukric Mountains. The area is known for its surplus of Kand trees, rare trees in which only inhabit Dorin and produce a delicious fruit. Forest regions also inhabit most of the north, containing Zand trees, which are the trees that are often used in manufacturing.

History
Dorin joined the Galactic Republic nearly six thousand years ago. Because so many Jedi came from Dorin, the Republic funded the construction of an enclave on the planet. The atmosphere limited the regular students to Kel Dor. [1]

In the past, the Dorin system was relatively self-sufficient, answering to its own planetary government that governed Dorin as well as the surrounding planets in the system. The government, known as the Kel Dor Confederacy, ran efficiently and smoothly until, with the help of outside influence, a dreadful battle split the planet’s population in two, leaving the world in disorder and chaos. This marker was known as the “Royal Purge”.

It all began several hundred years ago, when the ruling monarch of Dorin was Sultan Barkos Talmon, son of Harhur Talmon. The Talmon family had been the ruling dynasty of Dorin for countless years, passing on the throne from generation to generation. Barkos was a great nobleman, as well as a divine leader. He rarely worked for his own personal gain, always working for the good of the Kel Dor. It came time for him to marry, and his father, Harhur, arranged his marriage to Juhaz, who later born him a son, Nebo Talmon. Barkos, though, was deeply unhappy, for his love went out to another woman, Eli Koon, daughter of Dorinian noble. Eli later gave birth to Barkos’ son, Jaala Koon, who kept his mother’s last name to hide him from the Dorinian public. Barkos loved both Eli and Jaala, and became to despise Juhaz and Nebo, who became power-hungry and corrupt. Later, at the crowning ceremony where the monarch passed down his ruling powers to his heir, Barkos shocked the Dorinian populace by revealing his son Jaala and naming him Sultan over Dorin, denying it to Nebo, the rightful heir. The Talmon family, along with their supporters, was outraged, while the other half of the population rejoiced. The Kel Dor Confederacy was thus split in two, beginning on non-ending clash known as the “Great Conflict”.

As years passed, the Kel Dor Confederacy unified once more. The Great Conflict was nowhere near over, but it had subsided. The Talmon family and their supporters lived on, tolerating the Koon dynasties control while they waited for the time to strike once more. Around 350 years passed when the Talmon’s finally made their move. Gaining support and resources from outside investors who wanted in on the Dorinian economy, the Talmon family, along with thousands of armed supporters, stormed the Sultan’s palace, killing all who stood in their path to the throne room. They captured Nekoda Koon, the Sultan of that period, and brought him out to the front of the palace. There, Zaccai Talmon, the heir in the line of Nebo Talmon, struck down Nekoda Koon, claiming the throne for himself. With that the Talmon clan struck down all members of the Koon family. Rumor has arisen though that the dynasty was not completely destroyed, stating that through the efforts of a few loyalists, the son of Nakoda was safely transported off of Dorin. The Talmon’s took over immediately and began persecuting Koon followers. Many went into hiding, but most were captured and became slaves. The Talmon’s had became extremely cruel and malicious. All open opposition was crushed. Thus was known as the “Royal Purge”.
Overview
The Kel Dor are a race of aliens who have highly developed sensory organs and a natural aptitude for perception. They hail from a world named Dorin, whose position between two black holes gives it a radically different type of atmosphere (composed of helium and a unique gas[1]), one that would be toxic to most beings. The species travels off world often enough that a Kel Dor with a breathing mask is not such an uncommon sight. The sophisticated pair of goggles and breathing mask are required for Kel Dor who leave their homeworld to filter out oxygen atoms, which have proven to be most dangerous to the Kel Dor. Also, carbon dioxide and nitrogen are also fatal to them. The mask also amplifies their voices, as they are forced to shout to be heard outside of their native atmosphere. Without their protective goggles, Kel Dors are considered effectively blind when away from Dorin. They are also able to survive in the vacuum of space for a short time though it is unknown exactly how long they could withstand it. [1]

Biology and appearance
The majority of the Kel Dor are regular-sized beings, typically a little larger in build than other species, but what they lack in physical strength they make up for in perceptiveness. They have skin of varying tones, from orange to red, even blue and green, whom of which the society states as blessed. They are typically around 1.6-1.9 meters in height. Their external sensory organs can sometimes have a frightening appearance, with all the lumps and coils on their head, and their breath masks can be quite intimidating.

Most have dark, black eyes, although some were born with silver irises, a mark that was often seen as an affinity for the Force. [1]

Kel Dors are, as a whole, considered an unattractive species due to their strange facial structure. Their noses are described as falling short of becoming a beak, with a gaping opening that descended to the mouth, a toothless chasm with drooping fleshy strands. In place of teeth, Kel Dor have an upper and lower hard-palate, visible only when they pull their lips back. [1]

The other subspecies of Kel Dor are the warrior Kel Dor. Though they are a minority of the population, their involvement in the culture is colossal. They share the basic attributes of the normal Kel Dor, except for their physique. Though remaining relatively the same height, their bodies and muscles can reach to be twice the size of the normal Kel Dor, making them a most formidable combatant. Their heads seem to remain the same size, giving them a most unproportional look to them, which too many races can seem quite humorous. Though, seeing the warriors in battle will quickly wipe the smirk of any person. The Kel Dor warriors, given their enhanced strength combined with the Kel Dor’s superior hand-eye coordination and quick reflexes, are very fierce fighters. One of the greatest mysteries of the Kel Dor would have to be their enlarged, external sensory organs, which allow them to interpret basic external stimuli as well as extrasensory input.

It is said that these organs are the cause of many of the Kel Dor’s magical powers. These powers include the famed ability to enter other beings minds, giving them a telepathy skill that is both feared and envied by species all over the galaxy.

Society and culture
Kel Dor are attentive almost to the point of being conspicuous, however their odd behavior is mild in comparison with other alien species. Kel Dor tend to be relatively quiet but attentive, waiting in the wings and learning as much as possible before jumping into a situation. They are often said to possess a power that allows them to see all issues in black and white. They usually press for quick, simple justice, even if that means placing matters into their own hands. They are generally cooperative and helpful, but like any species they have their flaws. They are sometimes seen as nosy, but then the next moment their perceptiveness provides them with wisdom and insight into almost any situation.

The Kel Dor are usually brought up to be outstanding fighters, yet they are a most peaceful race. Physical violence is usually a final alternative, but when it is needed the Kel Dor excel in it. A youth Kel Dor is usually sent to the Dorin Academy at an early age. There, the child spends a majority of his or her childhood studying martial arts, ground tactics, and other means of warfare. Though, as they adapt their physical skills, they continue to push for knowledge of the mind, studying mathematics, philosophy, mechanics, and other useful subjects.

A strong part of the Kel Dor’s culture was the granting of Guardianship. The Guardians were an elite group of the wisest and most talented warriors of the Kel Dor. Often a Kel Dor noble had to prove himself worthy on numerous occasions, and be popular enough for the monarchy of that time to notice him or her. Actions to prove worthiness varied from settling minor disputes among traders to leading groups victorious in battle. The normal process for Guardianship started with a current Guardian presenting and sponsoring a Kel Dor noble to be granted Guardianship before the monarch of Dorin. If approved, the monarch usually proceeded to arrange an interview with the nominee before making the final decision. If he or she was approved, a large celebration was normally arranged after the ceremony. Upon naming the Kel Dor a Guardian, they must swear an oath of allegiance to the monarch as well as to follow a standard code of living, which was called the Code of Gallantry. Once named a Guardian, the skilled craftsmen of Dorin usually constructed a custom-made sword for the new warrior, which were called Guardian Rapiers. The sword was a symbol of their heritage, as well as an elegant weapon.

The Kel Dors were aware of, and used the Force long before they joined the Galactic Republic and the Jedi. This proud Force tradition was known as the Baran Do Sages. The Baran Do Sages often acted as advisers to rich and powerful Kel Dor families. Initially, their powers centered on weather-prediction, but as the Baran Do Sages learned more about the Force, they realized they had an affinity for detecting, and subsequently preventing, dangerous events. Wars and disasters were often averted simply by the insight of a Baran Do Sage. After joining the Galactic Republic, the Baran Do Sages dwindled in power and number, due to the Jedi's greater knowledge of the Force, and their taking of Force-sensitive infants. [1]

Names
Kel Dor surnames, like Human surnames, are based on ancient family trades or jobs, or even a description of a particularly famous Kel Dor in the family. The Koon family name, for example, meant 'explorer'. [1]

Kel Dor given names are based, loosely, on the sounds generated by Dorin's unique atmospheric phenomena. This tradition was highly popular among the Kel Dors, and the upper classes considered it bad luck to name a child away from Dorin. Kel Dor names tend to be short, usually monosyllabic, due to an ancient superstition about the "wind spirits" of Dorin. Upon hearing the sustained wind-sound of a long name, so the story went, the wind spirits would have mistaken the child for one of their own, and carried him or her off to be raised as a wind-child. No one believed in this myth for thousands of years, but the effect it had on Kel Dor naming conventions remains. [1]

The tradition of using the sounds of atmospheric phenomena means that Kel Dor given names appear to have almost no meaning to an outsider, but another Kel Dor who hears the sound in question and could identify the phenomenon would understand the significance and meaning of the name. [1]

Likewise, objects and techniques are often named after their purpose or effect. [1]
Description
The planet Kamino, known also as Planet of Storms [1] has no landmass whatsoever, yet life still manages to thrive on the world. The most populous species on Kamino, the Kaminoans, were originally aquatic creatures that lived in the massive ocean. Eventually, the Kaminoans developed superior technology and were able to construct massive, floating cities, including their capital, Tipoca City.

Kamino has an extremely hostile environment, and torrential rainstorms are often in occurrence. When the Second Galactic Survey recorded the existence of Kamino at the end of the Great Sith War, it was unable to breach the atmosphere, for lightning nearly destroyed the survey vessel. Therefore, the Kaminoans remained largely unknown for a vast majority of history.

The planet is composed of a molten core with a rocky mantle and silicate rock crust. Climatic change had long ago submerged the planet's continents, drowning the planet under a global ocean that covered almost all of the surface, with a few islands that were once mountains, but they were rained on almost every second. However, the surface of Kamino is not always subject to rain, contrary to popular belief. It is subject, though, to savage storms and powerful lightning bursts that can be seen from orbit. [1]

However, the Kaminoans were able to develop advanced technology, including brain-wave regulators which can alter the mindset of primitive beings. The Kaminoans used these devices to enslave flying beasts that they used for transportation between cities. However, the Kaminoans needed to maintain their ability to breath underwater in order to use these flying beasts, and developed a strong respiratory system. Kaminoans also managed to develop cloning facilities.

Kamino was later discovered by those who conspired to create the clones, and erased from the databases of the most prestigious libraries, including those on Obroa-skai and the Jedi Archives. The Kaminoans were responsible for the development of a clone army. Since the Kaminoans realized the destruction that they caused, they completely outlawed cloning.

The Kaminoans are led by a prime minister, who is elected when a strong, almost universal, majority of the population supports it. Recently, the prime minister has opened Kamino to several mining factions, which were responsible for development and exploitation of Kamino. The Kaminoans, who refuse to establish contact with either the Empire or the Alliance, tinker with devices that the miners bring to them, and continue working on methods of technology that can further advance the galaxy, hopefully for the better.

Tipoca City
The Kaminoan Capital stands above the ferocious waves on massive legs anchored in the seabed, its gently sloping roof-domes shedding the driving rains that fall almost continuously. The city is actually a network of stilt structures distributed over 150 kilometres (93 miles) at the planet's western equator. The central hub houses extensive cloning facilities and administrative offices occupied by the planet's Ruling Council. (Government) Because all the millions of Kaminoans who live and work in Tipoca are involved in either the cloning industry or governmental business -the two are closely interlinked- there is no public space within the central domes. Satellite cities ranged around Tipoca provide homes and recreation for the highly skilled workers.

Biology and appearance
This alien race is native to the planet Kamino. The average Kaminoan is a tall, thin being with pale skin and a small, knob-like skull. The male of the species has a thin ridge encircling their heads, which the females do not display. Their almond-shaped eyes can see in a variety of spectra beyond that of visible light. The species is an evolution from aquatic creatures in the vast oceans of Kamino was reflected in their tall shape, glassy coated eyes, near luminescent skin and thin long necks. There were many peculiarities about the particulars of Kaminoan physiology: rear-articulated legs, once adapted for firm seabeds, eventually only saw use in the hallways of their science facilities, while only male Kaminoans exhibited fin ridges along the rear of their small, bulbous skulls. The almond-shaped eyes of Kaminoans perceived a wide spectrum of light, from murky conditions to the ultraviolet range. This ability resulted in decor that, while austere to Human eyes, was more elaborate than it seemed.

Kaminoans mature quickly, reaching full adulthood at 11 years and remaining at their adult physical prime until roughly the age of 40. They became old and infirm at approximately age 80. Female Kaminoans are bald. [1]

Culture and society
The Kaminoans are aloof in nature, preferring to remain isolated and keeping to themselves. The Kaminoans are considered to be one of the most adept species in the creation of clones, although very few beings in the galaxy at large even know of the existence of the Kaminoans. The Kaminoans have been developing and perfecting cloning technology for many centuries. It is widely believed that their aloof nature is due, in part, to the genetic manipulation of the Kaminoan gene pool, which has kept the race vital without sacrificing individuality. Many beings speculate that the Kaminoans are cloned, rather than created by natural reproduction and the fact that their native planet has no landmasses is further evidence to force these beliefs.

After the disastrous end of an ice age on Kamino known as the Great Flood, Kaminoan society was pushed to the brink of extinction. Only through the development of a mastery over selective breeding, genetics and cloning were the Kaminoans able to survive. The calculating instincts of survival required of the Kaminoans produced heavy marks upon their late form culture. Kaminoans were minimalist in their designs and lifestyle, and were fierce perfectionists to the point of intolerance. The impact of the harsh adaptations the Kaminoans were subjected to is also viewable in their inward focus and isolationism. Kaminoans focused on little else than their cloning and interacted with offworlders as little as possible.

It was with great trepidation, therefore, that the Kaminoans began to offer their cloning services and genetic proficiency in exchange for essential imports. The select few clients that received the work of Kaminoan geneticists received perfect clones to suit their needs. The Kaminoans took great pride in their scientific breakthroughs, but gave little thought to the ethics of their work or the consequences of their deployment. While Kamino-made clones slaved away in the mining colonies of Subterrel or the private armies of intergalactic mercenaries, the Kaminoans thought nothing of it, continuing to toil at gaining more scientific honor. The earmark of a high-ranking officer on Kamino was thick, black cuffs on the sleeves of their tight white uniforms; the wider the cuff, the higher the rank.

The Kaminoans see themselves as a superior form of life, but nevertheless remained polite to the outsiders. To them any species seeking self-improvement was worthy of respect, but those who did not were obviously inferior. [1]

There is a dance known as Nahra, where Kaminoans would display their emotions — which is a rare sight. [1]

There also appears to be a caste distinction between certain Kaminoans, which could be determined by the color of the Kaminoan's eyes. The highest-level caste members in Kaminoan society had gray eyes, the middle classes had yellow eyes, and the lower classes had blue colored eyes. Eye color was directly related to the type of work a Kaminoan would be used for. Gray eyed individuals handled administration, yellow eyes handled the skilled work and blue eyes performed manual labor and other menial tasks. [1]

Although it is extremely rare, Kaminoans are sometimes born with green eyes. They are viewed as genetically inferior and a threat to the Kaminoans' well ordered society and as such were exterminated shortly after birth. [1]

It is also known that Kaminoans could, contrary to popular opinion, be Force-sensitive. Though it was widely believed, due to Ko Sai's demand for Jedi blood, that a Kaminoan had never been Force sensitive, it was later believed that it was Kaminoan arrogance that stopped them from experimenting on their own kind. ==Description==
Ithor is the fourth planet in the Ottega system, and the home world of the vaunted Ithorians. The planet is known across the galaxy for its lush green forests spread across its two main continents, separated by a sea of saltwater. In the seas live a wide variety of fish and large mammals.

On the main continent is a huge jungle covering most of the continent. This is where Ithor gets much of its fame. The jungles here are like no other found in the galaxy, and are home to a plethora of wildlife, with a perfectly intact food chain.

The second continent is made up of all ice, it has a few series of plant forms scattered on it, but little actual life beyond that. The ice in this area is in a constant state of freezing and thawing.

The Ithorian people do not live on the surface of the planet themselves. They live in floating cities in the atmosphere. These cities them have somewhat a piece of Ithor on each of them, with hanging gardens. Here on the floating cities a select few can purchase transport to the surface of the planet blow, though few ever get to accomplish this, it is well worth whatever price one needs pay.

The surface of the planet of Ithor plays host to numerous plants, including the bafforr tree, which possessed telepathic capabilities. The planet contains andurite stone. [1]

Ithor joined the Galactic Republic over eight thousand years ago. [1]
Biology and appearance
Ithorians hail from the Ottega star system, in the Lesser Plooriod Cluster. They are called 'Hammerheads' by other races because of their most prominent and unusual feature. They find this nickname offensive.[1] Ithorians have a long neck which curls forward and ends in a t-shaped dome. Female Ithorians have two humps on the back of their head, while males have only one. [1]

Ithorians speak the common language of the galaxy, albeit with a peculiar twist. Ithorians have two mouths, one on each side of the long, curling neck. This produces a 'stereo' effect when they speak which can be disconcerting to beings not familiar with them. Their native language fully employs this stereo effect, making it one of the most interesting sounding but difficult languages to speak.

In addition to allowing them to speak their unique stereophonic language, the Ithorians' four throats also has the ability to violently expel air, resulting in a deafening and potentially concussive scream. Although even common Ithorians possess this strange talent, those with Force training can push enough power into their sonic bellow to shatter iron and shred plasteel. Despite this fact, most Ithorians went their entire lives without ever resorting to violence, and so the ability remains relatively ambiguous. [1]

Society and culture
Ithor, the fourth planet in the Ottega star system, is a lush, tropical world teeming with a wide variety of animal and plant life. Much of it has been tamed by the Ithorians, but there are still large regions of wild, unexplored territory. Two land masses and numerous islands of Ithor endure in their original, undeveloped state. Even the 'developed' continents appear as overgrown jungles to most other star travelers. The Ithor climate is tropical, and humans and many humanoid races can function on the planet, although some find the heat and humidity troubling. It is a world where technology and nature beautifully co-exist, supporting an advanced and peaceful civilization overseen by the ecologically-minded Ithorians. The Ithorians live in what have been described as 'herds'. They are actually cities that migrate about the planet's three civilized continents. Each herd is a complex technological wonder: disk shaped and several levels high, herds ride above the surface on repulsorlift engines, housing the Ithorians and serving as centers of commerce, industry, and culture. Developed over long millennia, herds represent a logical, elegant solution to the problem of conserving the ecological system of Ithor while providing the Ithorians with a technological society. Herbivores, the Ithorians 'graze' on the vegetation of their planet without actually setting foot on its surface, and their belief in ecological equality prohibits them from taking more than each herd's needs from the soil. In practice, for each vegetable a herd consumes it plants two. This way of life led quite naturally to star travel early in Ithorian history: Ithorian ships are merely spacegoing 'herds' equipped with hyperdrives. They travel the spaceways like caravans, bringing unusual merchandise from one end of the galaxy to the other. Each herd-spacecraft is designed for Ithorian comfort, built to mimic the world's environment. They are indoor jungles complete with artificial storms, humid atmospheres, planetary wildlife, and vast corridors of lush vegetation. For all their strange appearance and customs, Ithorians are gentle and peace-loving. They manifest great respect for all life forms, and disturb their planet's ecology as little as possible. They remain in their floating herds, venturing onto the planet's surface only when necessary. But Ithorians are also curious and gregarious, which is perhaps why they went into space as merchants. As such, they are welcomed throughout the galaxy. In many systems in the Outer Rim Territories, the arrival of an Ithor herd is cause for celebration. While Hammerheads believe in peaceful coexistence, they also believe in protecting what they hold dear. Starfaring herds employ deflector shields and weapons to suppress smugglers and pirates. They are no match, however, for Imperial warships. Ithor itself boasts a highly-advanced defensive system, allowing the planet-bound herds to travel armament free. While many skills are needed to keep the herds going, most Ithorians opt for training in the agricultural, artistic, or diplomatic fields, in addition to mercantile and spacefaring occupations. Many even choose to become ecological priests, serving the 'Mother Jungle' and preserving nature on Ithor. The people of Ithor practice a communal form of government. Each herd is autonomous and self-supporting. Once every Ithorian season (about five standard years), the herds gather for 'the Meet'. A grand sight for off-worlders to witness, the Meet draws tourists from across the galaxy. The herds join one to another in a regal ceremony that resembles a majestic dance above the jungle. At the Meet, storytellers spin tales of wonder, families honor longstanding commitments, couples exchange marriage vows, and Ithorians in general debate their place in the galaxy. Any space herds in the vicinity participate, but smaller versions of the Meet are held in deep space for those Ithorians far from the planet when the 'Time of Meeting' comes. The space herds trade with both the Empire and the Rebel Alliance, but wish to avoid trouble. They have no reason to favor one side or the other, so long as they are allowed to continue their activities in peace.

History
Ithorians were natives of the planet Ithor, a lush world with sprawling rain forests. The Ithorians worshipped Mother Jungle, and long ago vowed never to desecrate their planet. Once they discovered repulsorlift technology, the Ithorians built expansive "herdships" floating in the skies above their homeworld. The species migrated to these platforms, ensuring that Ithor would remain pristine forever. These herdships eventually were given the ability to travel across interstellar distances. The Ithorian people were led by their high priest. First contact with the Republic occurred twelve thousand years ago. [1]

Ithorian society maintained its peaceful nature by exiling those who had a tendency towards violence and aggression. [1]
}}

Description
The only naturally habitable planet in the Vionix system, Imzig finds itself home to almost all of the system's inhabitants and is the home planet of the Imzig race.

One of the most interesting features of the planet is that its poles are set such that it appears to be rotating in a perpendicular fashion when compared to the other planets orbiting the system's sun. This has caused what would normally be considered the eastern-most and western-most points of the planet to be constantly farthest from the sun in its orbit, which results in them being covered in year-round ice and snow while the middle of the planet, from north to south, remains comparatively warm.

Housing the main spaceports has led what little trade the system receives to be done on Imzig. Exports, including raw materials and textiles, and imports, consisting mostly of food products and other consumables, are traded primarily with the neighboring system of Aline. The raw materials for export usually originate on the other planets in the system and are regularly brought to Imzig to be sold; textiles are produced in several of the planet's larger cities.

It is believed that the self-proclaimed King Balt, who controls Imzig's planetary government, has been heavily influenced by the pirates in the area. The Balt family long held influence within the system, but for decades they had been slowly losing hereditary seats in the former government. Local lore suggests that, having trouble maintaining their vast ancestral holdings in Vionix, the family sought outside help on the eve of bankruptcy. What followed was an immediate change of fortune for the Balt clan while that of their competitors took a drastic downturn marked by worker disappearances, shipping delays, and falling prey to the rising piracy. With the Balt family and the local pirates prospering at virtually parallel rates, collusion between the two has long been suspected.

Since taking power, King Balt has maintained a web of spies and informants to keep himself abreast of potential threats to his power base, which includes an appointed council family members and influential merchants. Yet, even as the internally the Balt reign becomes more oppressive, observers suggest that it is these pirates who actually control the system and that the monarchy exists only to serve their will. Validating these suppositions has been nearly impossible, but it is commonly known that pirate activity in the area is very high, suggesting a tacit agreement between the absolutist regime and the pirates, if not more.
Description
Iktotch is the homeworld of the Iktotchi, a small moon that is far into the Outer Rim. It is known for breeding some exceptional pilots, due mainly to the high winds of Iktotch which are legendary throughout Duflivian. If a pilot learned to fly in the turbulent storms of the Iktotchi moon, it is said that not even hell could throw him out of the sky.

More of a wasteland than a moon, it is covered in a coarse dust that is the result of high winds eroding once-great structures of ancient civilizations, and as each new civilization turns to dust in the vicious winds, their own added dust only adds to the swift decay of the next generation of palaces and structures.

Biology and appearance
The Iktotchi are hairless beings with an incredibly resilient skin which protects them from the violent winds of Iktotch Moon. Both males and females have curved horns, although the males' horns are generally a little larger, a remnant from their mountain-dwelling, caprinaen ancestors. The horns were able to regenerate if damaged. [1] Average male height measures 1.80 meters with females measuring slightly less. They had a limited manual dexterity because their broad hands were equipped with fatty digits; their hands were almost 1.5 times the size of a Human hand. [1] The Iktotchi people use Iktotchese to communicate between themselves, but easily adapt to use Basic for commerce with the galaxy.

Society and culture
The Iktotchi are a fiercely guarded and isolationist race - vaunted for their ability to hide their feelings and bury any semblance of emotion. Originating on the harsh, windy moon of Iktotch Moon, which orbits the planet Iktotchon in the Expansion Region, the Iktotch are gifted with precognition, and are courted as often by Jedi as by pirates for their skills.

Iktotchi have native precognition which, while vivid and specific on their homeworld, becomes vague and more like "gut instinct" as they move away from the planet. In spite of their rather unfriendly appearance, Iktotchi are sensitive beings who mask their deeper emotions under an appearance of stoicism. Respectful of the other cultures, they can adapt to civilization, but bond only rarely with other species, and with great difficulty. Indeed, their gift of precognition generally frightens or antagonizes members of other species. Compounding the negative image is a history of using their gift for criminal endeavors, either through deceit or of their own volition.

Indeed, their gift of precognition generally proved a curse, because it often frightened other species and Iktotchi were made the object of insults. In the same way, some unscrupulous individuals tried to deceive Iktochi into using their gift for criminal ends. As a result, Iktotchi were barred from gambling at almost every casino in the galaxy. [1]

History
Iktotchi were the only sentient beings of their star system. However, Iktotchi legends dating from the early days of their civilization made mention of the fact that the Iktotchi would eventually belong to a great galactic civilization. Thus when the explorers of the Galactic Republic discovered the Iktotchi civilization, in approximately 3,500 BCGT, they were extremely surprised to see that these beings had already prepared for their arrival for several weeks. The Iktotchi had carved the symbol of the Republic into their world's surface. [1]

Indeed, when the Republic vessel entered the orbit of the moon, those aboard her thought they must have found a Republic colony rather than the homeworld of an unknown species, because they could observe with the naked eye a giant version of the Republic seal, dug into a high plateau of the largest continent. The Iktotchi heads had been assembled in this place to contact "The Great Stars Ages". Thus the xenobiologists discovered quickly that the Iktotchi had a gift for limited precognition, in the form of dreams or visions. This natural talent fascinated the Jedi, who had established a recent Jedi Temple. It was later found that the effectiveness of Iktotchi precognition could be enhanced by way of using the Force. [1]

Iktotchi also had great aptitudes for piloting. They were also regularly employed as mechanics or engineers. However, few people trusted them, thinking that they were using their telepathic abilities to spy, or carrying the Omen Disease. Iktotchi tried to deny any existence of extrasensory gifts, which from a certain point of view was true. Indeed, their gift of precognition was very limited when they moved away from Iktotch. But the more time passed, and the more the memory of the strangeness of the first contact was erased from their collective memory, made it possible for the other species of the Galaxy to forget the Iktotchi's gift and to be integrated within the Galactic Republic. On the other hand their talent with piloting was always sought by pirates. [1]
