Black Squadron is the newest squadron on the 103rd. They have trained on the nimble Actis-2 Eta starfighter, which during the Clone Wars were reserved only for Jedi use as they were thought too touchy and fast to be used without the assistance of the Force. Unit History

The Clone Wars

The 103rd Starfighter Wing was first formed as part of the Grand Army of the Republic and was assigned to a Core defense fleet and attached to the Venator-class Star Destroyer "Negotiator". The wing was comprised of five squadrons, totaling sixty starfighters and a ground crew of two hundred mechanics and droids. At the beginning of the war three of the squadrons flew V-19 Torrent starfighters, and two flew Z-95 Headhunters. The unit saw little action in the early months of the First Galactic Civil War, patrolling systems in the Coruscant sector. However, as the Republic began to overextend itself in Year -24 after their embarrassments at Ryloth and Kamino Separatists incursions grew more frequent, and the "Negotiator" was redeployed to support a battle group in Billbringi before joining the 9th Battlegroup on the assault on Dolomar. After that battle, the "Negotiator" and the 103rd were recalled to Coruscant where it spent the remainder of the war. The unit was retrained to fly the new Alpha-three Nimbus V-Wing starfighters just before the invasion of Coruscant, where the unit fought valiantly to repel the Separatist fleet. The 103rd remained in the Coruscant sector, flying peacekeeping missions as the victorious Republic transitioned in the Galactic Empire in Year -23.

Imperial Service

The 103rd remained an Imperial unit for five more years, mainly flying escorts for dignitaries' shuttles until it was officially disbanded in Year -18. By that time the unit's Alpha-3 Nimbus starfighters were being replaced by the fearsome new TIE Fighters, and clone soldiers were being replaced with volunteers and conscripts. While many of the pilots accepted their pensions and attempted to transition to civilian life, many accepted posts as flight instructors at the plethora of Imperial military academies being built across the Empire. By Year -10, however, all remaining clones were discharged from Imperial service, and the veterans of the 103rd were forced to find work as mechanics, cargo or escort pilots, or in other industries as they sank into obscurity, keeping in touch only through veterans' networks like the Ternion Corps.

The Reborn 103rd

In Year 21, the Ternion Corps began shifting from a veterans support group to a military outfit. With the assistance of Con Semper and Vir Calder and other researchers and investors, the Corps acquired state of the art cloning equipment and began producing clones with the intention of rebuilding the Grand Army of the Republic and restore the best values of the Republic they once served. Cloning, training, equipping, and housing this new army proved expensive, so the Corps began allowing sympathetic investors to sponsor their own units and receive an honorary commission within the new military force. Paul Luz agreed to raise and sponsor a regiment and was particularly interested in a starfighter unit that could defend his personal fleet when not on assignment. Through his association with veterans groups, Luz met Grohl Wylde, a former starfighter pilot from the Grand Army who had flown with the 103rd in the final weeks of the war. Not knowing how to train or run a starfighter wing himself, Luz offered Wylde command of the unit once it had developed and named it the 103rd in honor of Wylde's comrades and service. In the time between their agreement and the time the clones were ready to fly, Luz and Wylde began acquiring the necessary ships, buying war-era starfighters from collectors and surplus sales, or else finding them in scrapyards and working with the Corps to restore them to their former glory. By the time the pilots arrived, the wing already had two squadrons of Y-Wings and one squadron of Z-95 Headhunters ready. Wylde and his pilots worked alongside Protectorate Strategic Command of the newly formed Republic Protectorate of Quantxi to recover more ships, and by the middle of Year 23 the wing had grown to its former size, fielding five full squadrons, flying Y-Wings, Z-95's, Actis Eta's, and even V-19's like the original unit flew.

Gold Squadron

Gold Squadron is one of the oldest squadrons in the unit and is one of two that fly modern BTL-S3 Y-Wing bombers built by The Resistance. Gold Squadron specializes in neutralizing enemy capital ships, frigates, and corvettes, as well as precision surface bombing when orbital turbolaser fire is deemed too risk or unavailable. Of the two squadrons of Y-wings in the 103rd, Gold Squadron is more frequently deployed offensively and away from the rest of the fleet and operates mostly out of a Raider-class corvette. In Year 23, Gold Squadron was the only unit of the Luz Regiment deployed to Kowak to join coalition forces in the system's defense.

Squadron Roster:

  • Lieutenant Aletra Emos, Squadron Commander
  • Trooper Allende Wytho, Gold One
  • Trooper Anjyl Zarkot, Gold Two
  • Trooper Araneya Richardson, Gold Three

Green Squadron

Green Squadron is one of the oldest squadrons in the unit and is one of two that fly modern BTL-S3 Y-Wing bombers built by The Resistance. Like Gold Squadron, Green Squadron specializes in neutralizing enemy capital ships, frigates, and corvettes, as well as precision surface bombing when orbital turbolaser fire is deemed too risk or unavailable. Of the two squadrons of Y-wings in the 103rd, Green Squadron is used primarily defensively, operating out of the regiment's flagship and defending Ternion's assets. The unit is led by Lt. Fias Lankfast.

Red Squadron

Red squadron is unique among the 103rd as the only squadron not made up of clones. Instead, Red Squadron is comprised of daughters and granddaughters of clone veterans, making it also the only all-female unit in the regiment. This gives the unit its nickname "The Daughters of the Republic." Red Squadron flies war-era Z-95 Headhunters and specialize in atmospheric combat and dogfighting. The unit is led by Lt. Penta Sunfell.

Blue Squadron

Blue Squadron is the most diverse and most decorated unit of the 103rd. The squadron flies a mixture of V-19 Torrents, New Republic surplus T-65 X-Wings, and a single UT-60D U-Wing Support Craft. Their mission profile is similarly varied, but the squadron has proven most efficient in dogfighting and escorting important vessels, as their predecessor unit once did. The unit is led by Lt. Kaulyn Vanukar.

Black Squadron

Black Squadron is the newest squadron on the 103rd. They have trained on the nimble Actis-2 Eta starfighter, which during the Clone Wars were reserved only for Jedi use as they were thought too touchy and fast to be used without the assistance of the Force. Their quick reflexes at intense sublight speeds have led Black Squadron to as the wing's reconnaissance unit and its pilots have shown proficiency is disabling enemy ships for capture. Black Squadron also serves as the Regiment's test pilots for new spacecraft and experimental upgrades.
