Biography

Born at Ahto City, Manaan, on Day 303 of Year -28, Almas Tarthul was the third of six offspring born to respected Selkath merchant Shaelas Tarthul and his wife, Calleh. Raised in the same manner as his siblings (Rahaera, Sheila, Elaena, Naedras, and Keira), Almas nevertheless became the only one to show any interest in Tarthul Mercantile, the family business. Later in life, Almas has been known to have stated that he was practically raised in the hyperlanes, having been brought along on many of his father's business trips. By the time he was twelve, he had seen such places as Coruscant, Alderaan, Ryloth, and even Nal Hutta, despite his father's personal distaste for Hutt politics. On one particular trip, his father's YT-1210 light freighter, the Luminous Voyager, was impounded for three weeks at Mandalore, thus beginning a long and ultimately tragic series of interactions with Mandalorians which would shape much of Almas' early adult life.

Almas looked up to his father, a respectable business owner, and tended to follow his example where possible. That included Shaelas Tarthul's reputation for honesty, along with his tendency to resist any authority he saw as illegitimate. This latter trait ended up causing the entire Tarthul family a significant amount of grief. The elder Tarthul's run-ins with Mandalorian authority became more and more frequent over the years, especially after Mandalore's takeover of Manaan. Finally, the Mandalorians forcibly shut down Tarthul Mercantile, confiscated the Luminous Voyager, and hauled its owner away for "questioning"; Almas never saw his father alive again. With his father's death at the hands of his Mandalorian captors, Almas was for a while consumed with grief and neglected his familial duties. For years he plotted revenge on his father's murderers, at one point even contemplating a direct attack on the Mandalorian garrison occupying his homeworld. Lately, however, he has found solace in the teachings of the Order of Shasa, his father's old faith, which have helped him let go of the corrosive hatred that boiled inside him for so long.

Now Almas is free to do that which he loves, plying the hyperlanes in search of adventure, learning new things about the galaxy wherever he goes. One would be quite right in saying that Almas is, at last, at peace.
