According to the Galactic News Sources [1], Wookies were repressed on Kashyyyk under the government of the Galactic Empire, preventing the indigenous Wookies to hunt, build and live their traditional existence.
One of the more infamous events was the massacre of Wookies on Kashyyyk by the Galactic Empire, which had become known as the 'Black Forest Massacre'.
