Callum was born in the year -3 CGT to Jasper and Kairi Merlyn, both operatives of the Galactic Alliance. The two had settled on Naboo for the birth of their twins, but soon after had to move on, leaving the two children in the care of a family friend.

As he grew up, Callum wanted for nothing. His parents -particularly his father- were quite wealthy and sent a hefty sum of money each month. It also helped that the person they considered to be their aunt came from a long line of nobility, and considered the twins to be her own.

Callum attended the best private schools available on Naboo, but never found them to his liking. Callum didn’t want to spend all day in classrooms, and much preferred being outside. He often snuck out with his sister to spend hours in the woods and lakes.

At the age of 14, the twins’ parents returned to Naboo. While Caroline was very happy to be reunited, but Callum was a bit more hesitant. He blamed them for abandoning him and his sister shortly after they were born, and was even more angrier with the fact that in 14 years they hadn’t even so much as tried to contact them once. He would later forgive them, but it took some time.

The pair were inseparable until shortly after they turned 16. Caroline went off to pursue a political career, just narrowly losing the Royal elections afterwhich she took a high ranking office in the capital. As a favour, he was given a position in the Royal Naboo Security Forces, joining the Royal Naboo Space Fighter Corps.

He was quickly proclaimed a prodigy in a cockpit, and gained the rank of Captain and with it command of a whole flight.

At the age of 20, Callum crashed his N-1 Starfighter when he suddenly experienced full system failure. He was lucky to survive, and even luckier to only have relatively minor injuries: His left leg fractured in three places, a number of cracked ribs, and a severe concussion. The incident investigation later reported that the fighter’s systems had failed due to maintenance negligence.

A few weeks later, Caroline went off to join the Imperial Army. Callum desperately wanted to go after her, but he simply couldn’t due to the fact that he was still recovering from his injuries.

A full year later, he had made a full recovery, and had regained his flight status. By now, it was too late to go after his sister, though. Caroline, by then a First Lieutenant in the Army, had been killed when one of her troopers negligently discharged his weapon while cleaning it.

He didn’t learn of this until his father contacted him about it. After receiving the news, Callum hated himself. He had failed his duty as a brother. He couldn’t protect his sister, whom he had pledged to protect for all eternity.

He resigned his commission, and took a job aboard a freighter in order to pay his passage to any planet to take him away from Naboo.

After arriving a few weeks later, he promptly installed himself in a local pub. Over the next 2 weeks, Callum nearly drank himself to death. That was until a pair of men, dressed in black, wearing trench coats, sunglasses and fedoras found him and kindly “requested” he come along with them.

Being as drunk as he was, he told them to “sod off”, and threw a number of punches before he was subdued. He woke up the next day with a headache he honestly thought would kill him. Fortunately, the room was dark, though. And cold.

The next week or so to this day remains a blurred memory for Callum. He spent most of his time asleep. He did later find out that he had been aboard a ship, which eventually took him to another planet.

During the trip he had sobered up, and this is when his training kicked in. He had successfully completed Survive, Escape, Resist and Escape training for the last time just two years ago.

Upon arrival, he noted that security was quite lax, due to the fact that they were at a commercial starport. As he was being escorted through one of the many corridors in the building, he jumped his escorts, knocking out unconscious and wounding the other, and legged it.

He hitched a ride out of the city and held out in a rural area for almost two weeks, until a local police officer recognised him and called in backup. Matched against a far superior force, without a means to fight back, he was forced to surrender.

He was then taken back to the capital city where he, to his surprise, was locked in something that would almost equal a decent hotel room.
