The Deep Core (also known as the Deep Galactic Core) was a small region in the galaxy, about seven thousand light years across, that hid unusual worlds. The Deep Core was home to some thirty billion of the galaxy's oldest stars, and at its center was a massive black hole surrounded by antimatter and dense clusters where stars were only a hundredth of a light year apart. In some areas they were in such close proximity, stars would collide and rip the cores from each other. Due to the gravitational pull of the vast number of stars, local space-time was severely warped, making hyperspace travel difficult at best.[1]

History

Despite the relative inaccessibility of the Deep Core, this region has borne witness to several important events in early galactic history. Over 30,000 years ago, "the brightest and best philosophers, priests, scientists and warriors convened on Tython"[1] and formed the Je'daii Order, from which the Jedi Order eventually evolved from. Human colonists from Coruscant followed afterwards and made use of the carbonite found in Koros Major system to provided a means to "preserve space travelers in a state of suspended animation for interstellar travel, leading to the development of sleeper ships that enabled Humans to expand throughout the galaxy."[1]

The Deep Core was host to the Imperial splinter group, Imperial Core and its successor, the Dark Empire during the Second Imperial Civil War. As of early Year 13, this region is largely under the control of the Galactic Empire and governed by the Governor of the Deep Core Sector (5th Sector), Moff Bill Maxwell.

Astrography

The Deep Core is largely surrounded by the Core Worlds to the north, east and south and borders the Unknown Regions to the west. A supermassive black hole is believed to be at the center of galaxy and has been designated as (0, 0) under the new coordinate system.[2]
