Developed some time before the Galactic Civil War, the Gozanti Cruiser was produced by Corellian Engineering as a new entry into the cargo liner market. Produced during a peaceful period in the galaxy, its slow speed and large size, due largely to the designers' self-imposed design regulations, do not facilitate employment in an offensive role.

However, its strong defensive capability and its unique angular design rendered it extremely difficult to assault and helped jump-start its adoption into a new-found escort role. Extremely unpopular with pirates who preyed on merchants and small convoys, the Gozanti Cruiser became one of the most common ships employed to protect groups of merchant vessels and passenger convoys from the latter days of the Old Republic into the beginning of the Galactic Civil War.

While its slow speed makes it inadequate for most forms of piracy, it is still employed in various roles in organized crime and is most notably used by the Hutts for spice runs and weapons smuggling because of its large cargo capacity and durability. It still remains popular as an escort and patrol ship employed mainly by large corporations, trade guilds, and transport services.
