House Tharandon of The White Keep (Hapanii: Tha'ren'den) is one of the aristocratic noble Houses of the Hapes Consortium. The family is a cadet branch of the long extinct ancient House Melantha, boasting a direct line of descent from Rhel of Tharandon some sixteen hundred years previously. Although one of the oldest dynasties, decline over many generations through conflict and poor leadership has seen the family fall from it's position as one of the richest and powerful within the Cluster to a shell of it's former self.

The Tharandon family had fallen on especially hard times following the death of Lord Alexander, but is since being restored to prominence by his son Benedict, the 168th Lord Tharandon.

House Tharandon's Heraldry consists of the sigil of a rampant crimson Griffon on a field of black and their motto "Steadiness Calls The Faithful Ones". Their unofficial motto, which is as well known as the official one, is "A Tharandon Never Forgets" and is used much more often and mostly in negative context, though it can also be used in the original, literal sense. Members of the family tend to have golden hair and emerald green eyes.

History

Origins of the Name

The exact origins of the surname 'Tharandon' can not be determined with any great certainty, although there is little doubt that it came from the Inner Cluster. The first reputed record is that of "Tha'den" some six thousand years previously, recorded on a list of minor settlements and trading posts.

The first definite Hapnii record of the name occurs roughly sixteen hundred years ago, given to a legitimised bastard son of Nalith Melan'tha, Rhel of Tha'ren'den. Although there is no known place name within the Cluster to exist to this day, common naming practice at the time would be for Nalith to name Rhel's Cadet branch after place of his birth.

Recent History

Military Strength

Tharandons have always been known for their fighting spirit and their skill in the art of war and have fought in many wars, both within and more recently outside the Cluster. Although not the largest by far, the House can raise approximately 60,000 men in a relatively short period of time and also commands a modest fleet. Given the growing prosperity of the family and Lord Benedict's military career, their standing personal retinue, the Ice Guard are among the best equipped within the Hapes Consortium.

The Tharandons have a number of fortifications and installation, the most notable being:

  • The White Keep is the ancestral stronghold and seat of the House of Tharandon. It is located on the planet Selab in the Hapes Cluster, carved out of a great rocky promontory overlooking the Glacial Sea and the major city and spaceport of Aviemore. The nearby mines are some of the most productive in the realm and provides House Tharandon with their wealth.
  • Nostromo Station is a Trading II space station, owned and overseen by Lord Benedict Tharandon of the Hapes Consortium. Situated at galactic position (-70, -325), within a neutral area of deep space between Imperial and Galactic Alliance space. Over recent years, the station has become a hub for trading and visitors of diverse backgrounds and due to the strictly enforced neutral policy, many of those who would otherwise not have met or stand as enemies exist together in an odd state of co-existence. The station boasts an expansive shopping concourse, entertainment and medical facilities. (Permanent Discord Link: https://discord.gg/QPbvaYP )
