— Het "Patches" Patchateeka, Vice President of the Kerdos Company. Translated from Jawaese, it means "Rust, junk, and Kerdos above all."

The Kerdos Company is the New Republic's nationalized recycling company. When buildings don't meet regulations, or ships cost more to maintain than they are worth, New Republicans turn to the Kerdos Company to demolish them and extract any raw materials they can. The Kerdos Company uses advanced extraction and recycling techniques that are protected by many New Republican patents. The Kerdos Company also serves as the governing company of the Sluis system.

The Kerdos Company has been the center of both controversy and praise with its planetary planning and development projects. Projects such as the Kerdos Employee City Program have begun reshaping the Sluis system at a rapid pace. While some environmental groups warn against such programs, the Kerdos Company has carefully relocated many species and declared Sluis Van as a protected planet.

History

The Kerdos Company is an ancient company. When Coruscant was still being developed, the Kerdos Company assisted in construction, waste management, and demolition of old buildings. Rough times hit and the Kerdos Company fell with the rise of the Galactic Empire. The Kerdos Company has since been reborn and is now a highly respected and very productive branch of the New Republic's Ministry of Civil Engineering.

Glorious Beginnings

One of the Kerdos Company's many recycling plants on the planet of Coruscant.

The Kerdos Company began as a small recycling operation on the planet of Coruscant during the time of the Old Republic. With expert management and dedicated staff, the Kerdos Company grew to become the largest player in the Coruscant waste management industry. It provided the economy with valuable raw materials while keeping the planet relatively clean. Under the expert guidance of the president of the company, it grew in value consistently between 70% and 120% yearly.

For the most part, the Kerdos Company stayed on the planet of Coruscant and chose not to venture to other planets unless absolutely necessary. This was in part due to the president of the company believing a too big to fail company will do just that. Indeed, Coruscant likely would have never become a planet-wide city without the Kerdos Company.

The Fall of the Company

Hundreds of years passed on Coruscant and the Kerdos Company still stood with the vision of the first president in mind. The war between the Old Republic and the Confederacy of Independent Systems (CIS) raged on and when the dust settled, old parts and ships needed recycling. The Old Republic was very interested in recycling old CIS ships and droids for their own war machine's production. The war would last a costly three years but while the governments fought and lost, the Kerdos Company's wealth grew.

With the Separatist War over, the Galactic Empire took control. The Empire's aggressive nationalization and suppression policies made free business impossible for Kerdos. Vital members of its staff, from workers to management, faced restrictions and oppression if they weren't human. The non-human staff were treated so poorly that they came to refer to themselves as "Imperial waste". Coincidentally, the company was renamed to the now-dissolved Imperial Waste Services just a few years later. That was the end of the original Kerdos Company.

A Troubled Rebirth

As a result of the death of the original Kerdos Company, a large portion of its staff abandoned Coruscant for the Outer Rim. With the help of the Rebel Alliance, the defectors managed to rebuild their business on Adbatar, making its first new step onto the galactic market on Day 334 of Year 7. The founding members were: Alph Virphen, Engin Berk, David Kellar, Ryan Valdemar, Maric Durmin, and Mandor Bg. This new organisation, formed with a united goal towards freedom, would come to be recognized as a resurrection of the company they had once broken off with; once again, they would be known as the Kerdos Company.

For the next few years, the Kerdos Company saw presidents and vice presidents come and go. For the most part, they simply built upon their predecessor's work. Sadly though, through the administrations of several past leaders, a large backlog of jobs were left incomplete and the Kerdos Company became a shell of what it was in the past. Although presidents like Chali Desdra, Edmond Zaccone, and Kristina Roberts tried their hardest to assist the company rebound, the Kerdos Company fell into an economic hole with little hope to recover.

For years, Kerdos wasn't seen as a positive investment. It took Edmond Zaccone's retirement and the appointment of President Dan Russ and Vice President Het "Patches" Patchateeka to start changing the minds of New Republicans. Within days of appointment, they began designing and gaining permits for the largest project in Kerdos Company history: the Kerdos Employee City Program.

Notable Assets of the Kerdos Company

The Kerdos Company owns many assets as a New Republic Nationalized Company. A few notable assets are listed below.

Kerdos Research and Development Station

Located in orbit over the gas giant Sluis Proto Star, Kerdos scientists are working constantly seeking new methods for recycling raw materials, demolishing structures, and constructing new ones.
