The Mid Rim, also known as the Mid-Rim, Mid-systems or the Mid Rim Territories, is a region of the galaxy located between the Expansion Region and the Outer Rim Territories. With fewer natural resources—and therefore a smaller population—than many neighboring regions, the Mid Rim is a territory where residents work hard for everything they have. Several planets have built up impressive economies, and pirate raiders often hide in the relatively unexplored spaces far from major trade routes.[1]

Aside from the traditional region divisions, the Mid Rim is divided further based on the navigational elements such as the galactic coordinates of Coruscant (0, 0, 0) during the Old Republic era or major hyperlanes, such as the Perlemian Trade Route or the Corellian Run. From the northwest, moving clockwise, the Mid Rim consist of:
- New Territories (a region north of the Northern Dependencies and the Hydian Way)[2]
- Northern Dependencies (a region north of Coruscant and the Perlemian Trade Route with the Negs as the western boundary)[3]
- The Borderlands or Trans-Hydian (a region "north" of the Perlemian Trade Route)[4]
- The Slice (a region between the Perlemian Trade Route and the Corellian Run)[5]
- Trailing Sectors (a region west of the Corellian Run, "trailing" the Slice)[6]
- Western Reaches (a region west of the Trailing Sectors beyond the Rimma Trade Route)[7]
