Nikai Tonnak ([ŋ́iːkaɪ tɒnn:ɑkˈ]); CGT Year -9 Day 338, is a Kiffar who currently serves within the Galactic Empire.

Personal Information

Appearance

Nikai is male Kiffar who stands at approximately 1.8 metres and with 75 kilograms. Due to the natural physique of the Kiffar people, and the nature of his militaristic duties, Nikai has an athletic build with nimble features. Looking at the man, one cannot easily see his racial tattoos, or qukuuf., as normally seen on the faces of the Kiffar. As is custom, his tribe chooses to place their markings in the extremities primarily; however many have qukuuf on the torso proper and back. Behind this, Nikai has fair skin. Unlike the Kiffar on Kiffex, there are a greater number of light-skinned tribes.

History

Tonnak Pride

Nikai was born to Abani and her husband Kanem Tonnak, the chief of Clan Tonnak, on Year -9 Day 338. Their first child, Nikai was raised with the expectation to one day lead the tribe. From an early age the young Kiffar joined his father and other men in the wildlife hunts. The young warrior-in-training showed great aptitude for the hunting of wildlife. It seemed natural selection and society had worked simultaneously to carve his place in Kiffar society – he was bred for hunting. Due to Kiffu's rugged terrain the varying fauna had very tough exteriors. The hunters had to work expertly together to take down even a single beast. Life on Kiffu certainly wasn’t easy for the Tonnak tribe.

Besides the hunt Nikai learned skills from his mother. From utilizing local herbs and roots to cooking, Nikai's parents wished to fully prepare him. During some of his many early hunting trips Nikai would gather various plants to bring back to his mother – some poisonous, some deadly and some lifesaving. Over time through trial and error and his mother’s advice, Nikai learned how to most greatly utilize Kiffu’s flora for his benefit. From crafting poisons to remedies, he learned he both had an aptitude for domestic and militaristic things.

Abani and Kanem’s second child, Nidu Tonnak, was born when Nikai was 10. Despite being the second, Abani and Kanem treated both children as equals and held both to the same prestige. The Tonnak tribe was proud to have a strong son and daughter to carry them into the next generation. Nikai grew protective of his younger sister, overly so some would say. His parents had instilled the idea of family before all else into the young Kiffar’s head. Throughout the rest of his childhood he grew with his skill of hunting as Nidu grew into the skill of womanly duties. It was expected of them.

Rise of Kiffu

When Nikai reached 18 years of age, his father decided it was time for his son to obtain leadership experience. Chief Kanem stepped down provisionally with Nikai's first action being to declare war on the rival Nabovu tribe. Both tribes had been at odds for centuries with the Nabovu claiming the former's land. Nabovu was a tribe of fearsome warriors, even by Kiffu standards. It seemed for far too long the Nabouv dominated nearby tribes with Clan Tonnak resisting on more than one occasion. With the young leader's unique tactics Clan Tonnak emerged victorious and subjugated the Nabovu. Provisional Chief Tonnak was not an overly violent person, however when the Nabovu were conquered he ordered the subsequent execution of Chief Nabovu.

A few months later Nikai stepped down as Provisional Chief letting his father return to his rightful place as head of the Clan. Nikai grew the courage to speak to his father. An idea, a thought, had been brewing in the Kiffar’s head for a year or so now. He wished to venture out into the stars, to other worlds besides the unforgiving one he was born from. To Nikai’s surprise, Kanem took the news well. He was sad his son wished to leave, but felt fighting Nikai on it would only lead to burnt bridges. He took all the skills he learned and the promise that he would come back and left Kiffu aboard a small shuttle. He didn’t know where he would go or end up, but that was part of the thrill.
