Unfortunately, several months later she realized her mistake when Deron stole a small company freighter and millions of credits worth of parts and materials and disappeared. She started asking around and found out that he had been involved with a local crime syndicate and was addicted to ryll. He had played her and it broke her heart. Matohk consoled her and tried to convince her to take some time off, but she refused and instead resolved herself to focus on the business.

Childhood

Sierra was born to Kasovo and Chiarra Perri in the outskirts of the capital city Corvala. Kasovo owned his own shop, Perri Shipworks, which was conveniently located near a starport and offered repairs and customized ship components for freighter pilots in need. From an early age, Sierra followed behind her father, observing him in all aspects of his business. Not surprisingly, as she grew so did her affinity for mechanical devices as well as her business skills. By her teenage years, she was working alongside her father as a valued member of his team, managing the books in the office and working in the shop as needed. She encouraged her younger brother, Deron, to join her in the business in the hope that it would help him find something meaningful to do, but he refused. Deron wasn't a very good student and was always falling in with the bad crowds. He had always lived in the shadow of his older sister and he became increasingly jealous as he saw her working alongside their father and succeeding. Then one day Sierra returned home to find that Deron had dropped out of school and run away. She wouldn't hear from him until many years later.

Early Adulthood

Over time, Sierra became an invaluable member of her father's business. Her exceptional managerial skills and her knowledge of ships didn't escape the notice of her parents, who convinced her to apply to Corvala University for an advanced degree in Year 1. It was while she was at university, working towards her dual degree in business and engineering, that Sierra met a young engineering student by the name of Matohk Null. Friendship slowly blossomed into a more serious relationship, and shortly after graduation they were married. Matohk joined Perri Shipworks and alongside Sierra helped the business expand into mass production. Kasovo bought an old factory in Corvala and business exploded. This was the happiest Sierra had ever been.

Downward Spiral

Business continued to grow steadily for the next six years. One factory became two and then three, and then the company purchased a small shipyard in orbit where they began to manufacture larger ships. It was around this time that Deron returned. Sierra had just finished negotiating a contract to build a new Corellian freighter via the holonet when there was a knock on her office door. She turned to see her little brother standing there, looking thin and worn. She was overjoyed to see him but was cautious of his reluctant nature. He apologized for running off those many years ago and said he was trying to turn his life around. Sierra offered him a job but he declined, insisting that he wasn't asking for a handout but simply wanted to let her know he was back. He got a job at a nearby bar working the late shift. Sadly, one morning a few weeks later a pair of detectives arrived at Sierra's home to inform her that they had discovered Deron's badly beaten body in the alley behind the bar. He had apparently been killed by members of a local hired thugs in retribution for leaving their crime syndicate. It was then that she found out that Deron had been selling ryll on the streets for years and had also been addicted to his product. She was distraught, and Matohk took over much of the daily operations for a couple of weeks while she and her parents mourned.

When Shili joined the New Republic and entered the growing Galactic Civil War, the resultant loss of potential customers in the Core caused sales to drop for a period of time. However, Sierra and Matohk devised a new business strategy and marketing campaign that helped Perri Shipworks rebound. Despite their initial concerns with the political change, their entry into New Republic life appeared to be reaping positive benefits. Then everything changed one day late in Year 15. Kasovo suffered a debilitating accident when a freighter's landing strut collapsed and his leg was crushed under the ship's bulk. He chose to retire rather than risk a cybernetic replacement at his age. Ownership of the company thus passed to Matohk and Sierra, even though they had been essentially running the business for years at that point. Soon after, Sierra began to notice some disturbing changes on Shili. The news began reporting an increasing dissatisfaction among residents with the way the New Republic was handling security in the system. With Shili being the most remote New Republic system, far removed from other Republic planets and located near to Imperial space, activists claimed that the Republic should be doing more to ensure their continued safety. Rumored sightings by freighter pilots of Imperial and Black Sun scout ships in the system, alongside claims of a limited Republic military presence in orbit, further inflamed concerns and localized protests soon began. A new group calling themselves the Shili Independence League arose and began circulating a petition for the Togruta homeworld to leave the New Republic and join the much closer Trade Federation.

The Republic Senate assured all Shili residents that the Republic Navy's rapid response fleet was within a short hyper jump from the system and could respond to any emergency. In addition, the New Republic announced the formation of local militias across all of it's systems. Citizens within a certain age range, specific to each race, were now legally bound to serve in the militia for one year. It just so happened that Sierra and Matohk, both in their early 30s, qualified for service. Within months, they both found themselves called in front of a New Republic officer and given their conscription orders. They protested on the grounds that their company could not survive the absence of both of them at the same time, but the officer was unresponsive to their pleas. They were given one week to put things in order, during which time they managed to convince Kasovo to step back in as CEO and keep the company afloat for the next year.
