The Sorosuub MkII was not a part of the original security plans for Sullust. The original plans were to include Quasar Fire-class Bulk Cruisers to transport light fighters to deal with light fighter attacks. It soon became evident that the current ship configuration could not cope with capital ship attacks, or large scale pirate attacks. Consequently, the designers were forced back to the drawing boards in order to provide the fleet with a solution to deal with large ships, or large volumes of lightly armored spacecraft. A rather hasty solution was presented, a re-design of the Mk-I into a bomber capacity. The solution was approved and the contracts were awarded. The Mk-II was designed using the main platform off an Mk-I. The lists of design flaws was rather long due to the effort of trying to adapt an older platform, rather than design an original platform for this series of fighter. One of the major flaws was that designers left no room for close combat anti-fighter weapon systems. This fact forced the Mk-II to rely heavily on fighter squadrons for their protection, and if left to their own devices they were routinely decimated by formations of better armed fighters. Also, the concussion launcher magazines took several mechanics to remove and reload. This caused and increased down time between bombing runs, and that fact has been blamed for the loss of several battles throughout the Sullust systems. One of the positive notes is the bomber version has shown a durability beyond the expectations of the design. It has proven itself adept at both in atmosphere, and out of atmosphere bombing missions. The tracking computer was updated with one of the most advanced on the current market. The shield generator and armor were also upgraded. However, the increase in weight, greatly reduced atmospheric maneuverability when compared to the MK-I. The Mk-II has proven itself on the field of battle, and if used correctly by commanders can be a lethal tool of war.
