The YT-1760 is yet another YT-series Corellian light freighters of the pre-Clone Wars era. This model was the first to feature a symmetrical design, with the cockpit placed mid-ship between the two mandibles. Based on consumer feedback at the time, its designers intended to remedy the shortcomings of previous freighter models, the YT-1210 and YT-1300; the main complaints were the hyperdrive speed and the sublight engine power.

Because of the design focus on expanding engine capacity to its fullest, the YT-1760 was released without weapons or defensive capabilities; coupled with this was a smaller cargo hold and weaker hull than its predecessors. While it possessed the same passenger capacity as other ships in the series, its cargo capacity was limited to a fifth of what the YT-1300 could carry. Furthermore, the lower durability of its hull design created problems with utilizing available space for remedying the problem of its non-existent weapons systems and deflector shields. Additionally, because of the increase in size and weight of the ship's engines, quite a bit of manoeuvrability was lost, which complicated an already troubling lack of defence.

In short, the YT-1760 achieves its design goals of a fast transport, being one of the fastest ships available on the market, with a respectable ability to transport groups of passengers or small shipments. However, the limited cargo space and defensive abilities makes it unpopular with larger transport companies. It is occasionally seen in use as a courier transport, and a few brave freelancers and smugglers bet their safety on its speed and the quality of their custom upgrades.
