Darkness Prime

Darkness Prime, an enigmatic rogue world hidden deep in the Unknown Regions, is home to Mayor Sal Seto's junior academy and the associated Star City Police youth program, respected institutions that have helped launch many promising careers. Academy City is the oldest settlement and still features an impressive curtain wall that is thousands of years old. To the east lies Star City, its modern sister where more elaborate services are on offer, although both metropolises frequently struggle with power issues from the same cosmic rays that heat the atmosphere. As a result, it is not uncommon to see more rustic systems in use, such as oil lamps and wind-driven machinery.

Without another source of local gravity tugging on the plates, Darkness Prime's lithosphere has formed into a single continent called Arqa. Due to its spin, the shelf has compressed and created the Arctos Mountains in the northern hemisphere, bounded by a deep band of alpine forests known as the Boreals. Most habitation occurs in the equatorial region, where the topography smooths out into the sweeping Asphodel Steppes. In the southern hemisphere, the climate turns quite arid and becomes a rocky badland known as the Favon Wastes. Tumbling down from the mountains, the Hitfon River divides the continent in half as it winds past Star City and spreads out into a thick, marshy rainforest delta known locally as the Styx before emptying into the Solan Sea.

True to its name, Darkness Prime is a world that slowly rotates alone in space, the source of its habitability being a distant pulsar that regularly sweeps the planet with an intense jet of charged particles. The magnetosphere protects the globe from destruction, but the stream of radiation that penetrates the field electrifies the atmosphere. Bathed in rippling sheets of spectacularly colourful auroras, the atmosphere is gently warmed, and the local flora has adapted to thrive in the shimmering glow.
