The Kaminoan Guard is a unit of the Ternion Corps' 18th Division. However, unlike units that are comprised of soldiers cloned by Ternion Corps itself, the Kaminoan Guard has a different origin. The troops of the Kaminoan Guard were cloned by Kamino Cloning Laboratories, a division within The Resistance-owned Kamino Medical Laboratories. KCL also produced clone soldiers from the Clone War-era genetic template to bolster the ranks of the Resistance military and to support allies and rebel-affiliated mercenary groups. Late in Year 20, Paul Luz a researcher with a history in cloning and genetic science was hired by Kamino Medical to work with the Kaminoan scientists and refine their process and business structure. One of the units formed under Director Luz's watch was a security unit charged with guarding the platforms and landing zones where clients would pick up their clones from Kamino. One of their officers, Slips Rys, formed a closer bond with Luz when he showed more interest than the other clones in cloning science and the state of the larger galaxy. When in late Year 21 Director Luz's work on Kamino was done, he negotiated with KCL to buy out the commission of Lt. Rys and unit and attached them to his personal fleet.

Luz then joined Ternion Corps to continue his research. He volunteered to personally fund and support a regiment in order to assist rebuilding the Grand Army of the Republic and was given the honorary rank of colonel to do so. He then began incorporating the Kaminoan Guard into his budding regiment, but conflicts between the Kaminoan-born clones and the Ternion-born clones soon evolved. To ease the tension, Luz ordered the Kaminoan Guard to train and supervise the volunteer auxiliary unit that he had received permission to organize. Once his research facilities have been completed, the Guard will transition to guarding and securing those sites.
