(Hacked by Crueya Vandron on Year 18 Day 67)

The image flickers momentarily. A tell-tale burst of static that somebody is inside the GNS-Net who shouldn’t be. Suddenly an image appears of a human male talking to a camera, already mid-sentence. “I don’t know how else to get through to you. I didn’t want to go through a committee or NRI, I- The Resistance said they’d make sure you saw this.” The man draws a ragged breath and smiles weakly at the camera. “I saw you in the news. You had a-“ He pauses again and presses his shaking hands over his mouth.

“I don’t understand. That wasn’t you, you wouldn’t do this.” He sighs. “Mira’s only five, she can’t understand it. She’s too young and I don’t know what to tell her. Mommy’s with the bad men now; how do you tell that to your daughter? She left us to be a bad person? Kara, what do I tell her?”

The man covers his face with his hands and groans. “She knows too much already. She knows the things that they’ve done! We took her to Kashyyyk, she knows what your New Order did there. She’s a child. She broke her arm climbing a wroshyr tree because she decided she wanted to be a katarn- and even she knows what the Empire did there.” He waves his arm in a weak motion of despondence. “The Empire committed genocide. We taught her that! Jasper Merlyn was sentenced to 17 months imprisonment for espionage in a trial that you, and I and the rest of the Senate ensured was fair and legal. How could that push you over an edge that wipes away the memory of the millions of wookiees and everybody else the Empire have ever murdered?”

The man stands up, anger frustration and pain oozing off of him. “I’ve told her stories, we both have. She knows I was there when the Republic took it back. The first wave, Kara. I saw it all. You know she’s coming into her abilities. I have to shield myself from the force when I’m around her or else she feels my sadness and my anger. I don’t understand why you’re doing this.”

“These aren’t Republic lies; they’re things we’ve seen and people we know. How can you just forget that? Cheda was my wingman! I taught him! She knows that they executed him. They killed him for daring to stand up to them. She knows that you fought them too. Mommy fights the bad men! It was your Battlegroup, your friends, people whose names she knew that Jaqen Taral betrayed and murdered on the orders of the man you just swore loyalty to. They would have killed you too if you hadn’t been with me and Mira that day. They would have killed you and we saved you. How could you choose them over us?”

He slumps back down into his chair and uncovers his face, looking directly towards the camera. “I don’t know why you think the Imperial Union is any better. This new IU is a shadow of the first, a half rate alliance of traitors and outcasts trying to replace the likes of Hapes and the Trade Federation. The Empire was abandoned by their entire alliance. How can you have more faith in them than us? How can you stand there, calling me corrupt when you know how hard I fight? How hard we used to fight together! Against genocide, discrimination, all the things that they would rather we forget are true about them.”

“They are liars and cheats. Their heart is a Sith heart. The only ones safe in their New Order are the members of the New Order and I remember a time when you fought against that. You’re trading it all, your friends, your family.” The man pauses. His voice catches in his throat. “I’m an Imperial deserter, do you expect clemency for me? Mira… She is the child of Jedi Knights, do you expect her to be able to live a life of her choosing in your Empire? You know what the Sith will have her do, have her become.”

He looks to the ground, trying to fight his anguish. “Please. Just come home. I love you, come home. It’s not too late. She needs you, I need you. Please come home. They’re using you. This is what they do. Please, anywhere in the galaxy is better than this. You’re not like them.”

Tears forming in his eyes, he approaches the camera and presses something to the lens.

“You’re not like them. You’re one of us. You’re a Webb too. Don’t forget that.”
