Overview

The Jedi Order is a religious organization dedicated to the ethical practice and worship of the metaphysical energy known as The Force. Through the use of this energy, the Order believes life can blossom and freedoms be maintained for those allied with the Jedi. The Order is led by a Jedi Council, usually comprising adept and wise Jedi Masters. Under the Jedi Council, the Order is split into several branches including the Ministry of Defense, Ministry of Engineering and the Ministry of State. Currently the Order is populated by both Force-sensitives and ordinary sentients, with Force-sensitives usually occupying the separate ranks of Initiate, Jedi Padawan, Jedi Knight and Jedi Master. The Jedi Council is led by the Master of the Order, presently Russ Leman.

History

The Jedi Order is an ancient movement that predates the formation of the Galactic Republic. The Order's earliest Masters are said to have originated from the planet Tython, located deep within the Core. It was here that the Order began to take shape, training Padawans and sharing ideas away from galactic civilization, which even then was only beginning to take shape. Some of the finest Jedi wisdom was reportedly created around this time, stored in Jedi Holocrons.

The Order suffered a great fracture early into its existence as one of the first confrontations between the energies known as the Light Side and the Dark Side resulted in the creation of Dark Jedi, who would later return as Sith following lengthy exile. After this event the Jedi Order joined the Galactic Republic, acting as peacekeepers and often a military force as conflict with the Sith extended through thousands of years, spawning multiple wars such as the Jedi Civil War, the Great Hyperspace War and the New Sith Wars.

Several decades ago the Jedi Order was thrown into disarray as Sith plots resulted in the reformation of the Galactic Republic into the Galactic Empire under Hiram Drayson.

After several years of suppression, surviving members of the Order rallied to create the Jedi Praxium; hoping to reclaim its galactic mantle and resume the struggle against the Sith and the Galactic Empire. This move soon collapsed however, as the actions of one traitorous Jedi leader (turned Sith) destroyed the Praxium. In desperation a final attempt to revive the Order was made with the founding of the Jedi Academy, with weary Masters hoping to train a new generation to usher in a blossoming of the Light Side. This organization, located away from frontline fighting and with a planet to build around, was a much greater success than its predecessor. The Jedi Order was revitalized, and soon took back its old title. Soon, allies of the Order found a base on Ossus, an ancient Jedi world where the Order quickly made itself comfortable.

After this there have been numerous reforms as the Jedi Order adapted to the changing political and social climates of the galaxy. One of the earliest of these was the Jedi Coalition. This was a merger between the Jedi Order and the then Arkanian Royal Engineers that lasted briefly in Y13. Leadership on both sides mutually agreed to go back to the former status quo and the venture was ended.

After the Jedi Coalition other reforms occurred. The first of these was the creation of two factions owned by the Jedi Order - Jedi Medical and Banvhar Combine. Jedi Medical was formed out of a desire to be more capable of fulfilling one of the Jedi Orders desired goals of being able to provide aid to those in need. Banvhar Combine was created out of a need to have better access to raw materials and a more developed internal logistics structure. Both were used while developing Ossus and other territories until they were absorbed several years after formation - Jedi Medical from looting and Banvhar Combine due to no longer being necessary for operations.

The most successful reform began when the Jedi Without Borders decree was passed in Council, enabling sentients to become Jedi from many more walks of life than before. For the first time in living memory sentients could follow the path of the Jedi without having to join the Jedi Order on a permanent basis, leaving them free to follow other pursuits. This was enhanced in Year 21 with the Extended Jedi Order decree, allowing not only for individual Jedi but for whole groups of Jedi to form so long as they conformed to standards that were outlined by the Jedi Order and agreed to by all. An Extended Council was also created to assist in managing and governing this, with leaders from every organization participating.

On Year 21 Day 16 the The War for the Republic erupted with the betrayal of Galen Darksol to the Galactic Empire. The Jedi Order played a minor role in assisting with securing New Republic personnel. During the subsequent military campaign all holdings in the northern end of the galaxy were lost, including Ossus and Cron Drift. The Jedi Order was able to evacuate most assets, including the historical Praxeum structure but ultimately could not keep the planets. They were ceded to Tresario Star Kingdom and the Jedi Order retreated southward along with The Resistance. Later the Order gained ownership of the Dagobah system, and maintains it to this day.

In Year 22, the Jedi Order initiated the Tolonda Conflict against the Sith Imperium. Leading up to this was months of attempts at recruitment and subversion of Sith Imperium agents along with many perceived abuses of the Dark Side of the Force by the Sith Imperium leadership. After initial fact finding and a period of deliberation in the High Council and the Jedi Order itself on Year 22 Day 48 war was declared on the Sith Imperium with many other rebellion aligned organizations following suit. After a successful campaign that did extensive damage to the economic and military base of the Sith Imperium, on day 300 a cease fire was agreed upon. Peace talks are still ongoing.
