Malastare had a variety of terrains including forests, deserts, methane lakes, and rivers. This made the planet a favorite podracing location. There, local and interstellar stars competed in various events. [1]

Geographic Location

The planet of Malastare is located within the Malastare System, Dustig Sector in the south of the galaxy. It's sister planet is Lacca and the two planets are the only planets within the Dustig Sector. The sector is surrounded largely by unpopulated sectors except for the Quess Sector. The system of Malastare is located within the south-west of the Dustig Sector.

Malastare is a large planet full of a variety of different types of terrain allowing for a large diversity of life to be sustained on the homeworld.

History

This planet had long been plagued by monstrous Zillo Beasts that fed on the native Dugs. The Dugs gained the upper hand and eventually eradicated all the Zillo Beasts, when it was discovered that Malastare's fuel natural resources were toxic to them.[1]

Circa 8,000 BCGT, the Galactic Republic established an outpost on Malastare since it was located at a key spot along the Hydian Way trade route. Later, in ca. 1,000 BBY, a contingent of Gran colonists settled on the planet. First contact between the Gran and the Dugs was bloody, and a long, brutal war ensued. Because of the power and influence the Gran wielded in the Galactic Senate, the Republic settled the violence in the Gran's favor.[1]

The Gran Protectorate became established circa 1,000 BCGT, and, as a consequence, the Dugs were demilitarized and stripped of political power, with the unemployed ones being relocated to the western continent of their own planet. [1]

In the Galactic Republic, Malastare was represented in the Galactic Senate exclusively by Gran politicians. [1]
