The Early Years
Selene on Taris (Upper City) |
Selene was seriously injured, her clothes torn and shredded by the savagery of the attack that had left her lying unconscious on the ground of a dark and dingy alley. A large wound on the Anzati's head oozed blood which had already begun to pool around the prone form of her pale visage. Who or whatever had perpetrated the brutal attack had long since fled into the night, and left the victim to bleed out in the shadows. Had it not been for a female passerby who noticed her unmoving body on the ground, then Selene would have indeed died there, alone and unmourned. The young Anzati's savior was a human named Camilla Kahn, a woman who - fortunately for the young Anzati - had developed a strong sense of empathy for her fellow sentient beings over the course of her life. Acting upon her natural inclination to help others, Camilla had taken the wounded girl back to her domicile where she tended to the Anzati's grave injuries with the aid of her husband Dr. Yurther Kahn, who was an accomplished Kiffar geneticist.
Over time, the damage inflicted upon Selene’s body was mended due to the medical competencies of her hosts. Yet, there was one wound that had a lasting impact on the Anzati, namely the head wound which had caused her to lose all memory of her past. Any recollection about where she was from, who she had been prior to the attack, and what she had done for a living were all gone from her mind, with no effort on the part of Camilla and Yurther Kahn being able to yield any results. Fortunately, despite the fact that her mind had basically become a blank slate, Selene still retained the skills and talents that were innate to the Anzati. During her recovery period, the Kahn spouses had grown attached to the young girl that they had nursed back to health, and found themselves unable to let her fend for herself in the city in her amnesiac state. In addition, Dr. Kahn also recognized a significant opportunity for his research by studying a live Anzati while trying to help her recover her memories. The couple had decided to adopt the girl and raise her as their own, giving her the name of Selene Kahn.
Over the years that followed, Selene grew up in a healthy and happy environment and found herself content with her new life. Her adoptive parents cared for and loved her as if she were their own daughter, and brought her up within the culture of their people, namely the Kiffar. Dr. Kahn also taught his ward the Kiffar language and often told her tales from their history, including the horrors that Selene’s people the Anzati had inflicted upon the Kiffar. He often explained to his charge how the Anzati viewed other species as nothing more than sustenance, in an effort to make Selene understand how abhorrent such a perspective on sentient beings was. Unable to recall any of her past upbringings, Selene readily adopted the teachings and viewpoints of her adoptive parents and lived by the moral and ethical codes common among the Kiffar and most other Human societies.
Throughout her childhood and early adolescence, Selene’s adoptive father also studied her feeding habits in an attempt to find a way to eliminate them. Dr. Kahn went so far as to splice her genes with his Kiffar and his wife’s Human genes. Unfortunately, none of his experiments were successful in eliminating Selene’s need for soup, although her need for that form of sustenance had decreased substantially over the years, which allowed her to go longer between meals. These experiments also had unforeseen side effects, some of which caused painful physiological changes to the Kahns’ ward. Her appearance became less Anzati, as she lost the bulbous nose and pale skin that was common to her species, which in turn allowed her to pass for a normal human more easily. Yet, perhaps the most impactful consequence of the gene splicing was the fact that Selene became sterile, and could never hope to have offspring of her own.
During this stage of her life, Selene became acquainted with Aetius Morbus, another Anzati who was also raised by Humans. As a result of their similar backgrounds, the two swiftly took to one another and grew to become good friends, spending much of their leisure time together. The older and much worldlier Aetius taught Selene many things about their people’s way of life, with the most important thing that she learned from Aetius being how to hunt the criminals and scum of the city to satisfy her need for soup, instead of those that would be otherwise considered as innocent. Yet, in their years of friendship, there was one thing they never discussed or brought up, namely their past lives from before their arrival on Taris. Unfortunately, the contact between Aetius and Selene began to wane over the years. While they remained friends for a while, happenstance saw them spend less time together as they grew older. Eventually, each became too focused on following their own path in life, until the two Anzati rarely met up to hunt or talk anymore.
As Selene grew older, so too did her parents. Throughout her years on Taris, she spent much of her available time training and honing her prowess in combat until slowly but gradually she developed into a skilled hunter. Through diligence and practice, she became a weapons specialist with a particular adeptness in combat tactics and close-quarters fighting. Her adoptive parents - and especially her father Dr. Khan - grew to be very proud of their charge, and often praised how talented a woman their daughter had become.
Yet, one faithful day, Selene was faced with a terribly unfortunate event that would alter the course of her life for good. She had returned home from a hunting trip and happily enjoyed the company and familiarity of her adopted family. Yet, as the trio sat in the living room of their house a knock came at the door. Not expecting any visitors, Dr. Kahn rose from his seat to open it and a moment later a disheveled and out-of-breath Human stumbled into the room. Gasping between breaths he warned the elderly geneticist that a group of bounty hunters was asking around about him, and cautioned that it might not be safe on Taris anymore.
Dr. Kahn looked at his wife and daughter with concern, as panic became visible behind his eyes. He quickly started to speak to his wife and daughter in Kiffu to formulate a plan to get them to safety, but it was at that moment that an explosion at the door hurled smoke and a hail of shrapnel and debris across the room. The man that had warned the Kahns about the approaching danger suffered the brunt of the explosion and was flung across the room and ended up in a lifeless heap. As the dust settled a trio of humanoids stormed in through the gaping hole that was once the door to the house. The assailants were clad in nondescript, battle-worn armour, and brandished DLT-20a rifles. The first invader to enter the room casually raised his sidearm, a DL-18 blaster pistol, and squeezed the trigger. The bolt flashed through the small space and hit Camilla, Selene’s adopted mother, squarely in the chest killing her instantly. Selene barely had time to register what she had just witnessed when a second bolt tore through the air directly toward her. Her training saved her from being hit, as instinct kicked in and she just barely dodged out of the way.
During the chaos of battle, the last attacker lunged forward and started grappling with Dr. Kahn, attempting to subdue him. Sensing that his fighting was in vain against his larger opponent, the doctor turned his head to look at his adopted daughter. In a strained voice, he spoke a few last words in Kiffu to her as he flashed her part of a thermal detonator which he had palmed and concealed inside his coat pocket. The bounty hunter's armored gaze fell on Selene as she nodded her understanding to her adopted father. What seemed like a brief moment of stillness passed when she suddenly burst into a sprint, running as fast as her legs could carry her toward the nearest window. The assailants, caught off guard by Selene’s sudden movement and speed, were slow to react. Two of them raised their guns and fired wildly as the third wrestled with Dr. Kahn. The bolts flew past Selene, shattering the window in front of her. Bracing herself, she covered her head with her arms as she dove through it into an alley that ran next to the building.
Selene rolled as she hit the ground and sprang to her feet as another flurry of blaster bolts shot out the window and over her head. Not losing a second, she continued to run as fast as she could, hurrying away from the house until her lungs burned and her legs ached. Eventually, the Anzati collapsed against the side of an alleyway which she darted into. She panted and breathed heavily from her exertion, as sweat and tears streamed down her face. Selene glanced toward the direction of her home just in time to hear a deafening explosion followed by a huge fireball that climbed into the sky. Without seeing it, she knew her old home was now a smoldering ruin of ash and debris, and that her adopted father was dead. Selene's heart thundered in her chest as her father’s last words echoed in her mind over and over. Grief-stricken and exhausted, she forced herself to her feet slowly. Feeling lost and heartbroken, she did not know what to do but to run away from the pillar of smoke that drifted slowly over the place she had once lived in.
Leaving Taris
Selene on Taris (Lower City) |
Selene left the Upper City of Taris where she had lived happily with her adoptive parents, and made her way into the warrens of the Lower City. All the time, the memory of her adoptive parents' deaths haunted her, as the image of her adoptive mother being gunned down in cold blood would forever remain seared into her mind. The sight of Camilla’s crumpled body weighed down heavily upon Selene, as did her adoptive father’s final act of sacrificing himself so that his daughter could escape. Stricken with grief and shame, she was unable to overcome the feelings of frustration and helplessness that had overtaken her, blaming herself for failing to protect her parents, and chastising herself for how all she was capable of was running and hiding. A deep-seated rage and sadness took hold of her as she knew she could not quench her thirst for vengeance as the bounty hunters that had killed the Kahns and inflicted so much pain on her had already been killed in the explosion that had also taken her father’s life. Thus, in the years that followed, Selene wandered lost and alone through the dark and dirty streets of the Lower City, easily passing for just any other Human down on their luck. This image was strengthened by her efforts to make sure that her true species was never discovered. As such, Selene was able to use her hidden nature as an Anzati to her advantage when hunting for 'soup' among the criminals in the slums, feeding on whatever intelligent being was foolish enough to be alone in her presence. Their species did not matter to her, only the state of innocence of her prey.
Selene as a gang member |
As she continued living within the destitute Lower City of Taris, she eventually realized that joining one of the swoop gangs that ruled the streets would bring her to her favorite source of sustenance, namely criminals. Yet, to be considered a serious member of such a gang and not merely a servant or trophy, the Anzati was aware she needed to make an impression through her martial prowess and experience. To this end, she entered into one of the illegal fighting tournaments that were prevalent throughout the Lower City, a perfect opportunity to display her value as a potential foot soldier. At the same time, she was curious to test her abilities in the ring against the different underworld thugs that participated in the events, as she wanted to prove to herself she could take the best that the Lower City of Taris had to offer in the combat arena. As it swiftly turned out, Selene’s years of training in hand-to-hand combat gave her a marked advantage against her often largely inexperienced opponents. Unsurprisingly, she easily bested her opponent during her first match, by knocking the man out with a well-placed kick to the side of the head. That evening she won battle after battle, and the other fighters she faced were unable to match her strength or skill. Declared champion of the night, Selene won the prize pot that all contestants struggled for and was approached by one of the gang lieutenants with a job offer thereafter. Having succeeded in her goal to attract their attention, she accepted the offer and started her new life as a member of the gang.
The combat training Selene had received from her adopted father was critical to her survival during her years in the Lower City. She continued to enter underground fights, representing her gang against other local gangs at these brutal events. With each victory, her standing in the gang increased as did her leaders' confidence in her. Eventually, her record of unparalleled victories elevated her to the inner circle of the gang. As an enforcer, Selene did all sorts of violent and dangerous jobs, from drug deals and selling Death Sticks and counterfeit ryll laced medical items, to debt collection from loan sharks that owed her boss and fighting rival gangs. After all, gang warfare was always omnipresent within the Lower City, as shootouts and attacks happened on an almost daily basis. Yet, while the danger and brutality of her new lifestyle, and especially the wounds and injuries, were an expected part of it, they gave her the means to release the rage that still simmered in her heart.
Selene continued in this line of work until one day after a routine sales operation, the gang leader accused her of stealing some of the credits from the sale, complaining that the courier had arrived light. As the gang boss yelled in her face making threats, Selene felt that familiar rage building up. She was shocked and outraged that her loyalty to the gang was being questioned like this after all the years of dedication she had given to it. Her fist darted up and hit the man in the throat, putting an end to his rants as he gasped for air through a crushed windpipe. Taken by surprise by the suddenness of Selene’s' attack, the bodyguards barely managed to clear their blasters from their holsters before the Anzati descended upon them. Both of them died before they could fire a single shot, their battered bodies laid out in a heap at Selenes' feet. As she knew she would be unable to take on the rest of the gang, she slipped out the back entrance, unseen and unheard, vanishing into the crowds.
While in hiding, Selene knew she could not stay on Taris any longer. The Upper City held too many painful memories for her, while the Lower City was too dangerous for her in light of recent events. As she had always wanted to know more about her adopted father’s roots, the Anzati decided it was a good time to visit his homeworld of Kiffex. Not wasting any time packing, she headed for the nearest starport and bought a seat on the first ship leaving for the Kiffu homeworld.
Life on Kiffex
Selene arriving on Kiffex |
The transport ship Selene had booked passage on was a typical space passenger liner. She had made sure to purchase one of the private rooms, in which she spent most of the trip passing the time by experimenting with new hair and clothing styles. She did this as a precaution to throw off anyone from Taris that might have been searching for her. Thus, when the ship arrived at the starport on Kiffex, Selene looked nothing like her old self, and she was completely unrecognizable from when she had boarded the vessel on Taris. Secure in the knowledge that no one would recognize her, Selene wanted to start her search for her adopted father's family but was unsure as to where to start. As such, she booked a room within secure lodgings to consider her options. In the weeks that followed, Selene went out on a daily basis to acquaint herself with the neighborhood. After all, she was a foreigner in an unfamiliar and possibly hostile environment due to her true nature, and needed to avoid drawing any suspicion onto herself, and about what she was looking for. Over time, Selene became familiar with the neighborhood and the people who lived there. However, a sense of being lost still had a firm grip on her, because she had no clue as to where to begin her search.
One night, she decided to go out for a brief stroll through the streets of the city. Her mind raced with every step, thinking restlessly about what she was doing there and how she could find any information about her roots and that of her adopted father. After all, she found herself on a new planet, walking among people who would consider her an enemy due to her race. Her adopted father had told her many stories about the battles between the Kiffar and the Anzati, and the ingrained hatred that both races carried for one another.
Selene continued walking down the dark streets desperately trying to come up with a workable plan, when suddenly she was surrounded by four humanoids clad in long, dark cloaks. All four of them brandished weapons with lasers aimed directly at her. As a result, the Anzati froze in mid-step and turned cautiously to take a look at her assailants. Yet, before she could complete her turn, she felt how one of the assailants grasped her upper right arm tightly, forcibly guiding her down the dark and hidden alleyways. When they eventually came to a stop behind some crates, a man emerged from the shadows and stood directly in front of Selene. They looked at one another for a long moment, as if sizing one another up. Then, the man in front of her unclasped his hands and extended two curling, tentacle-like proboscises from his cheeks. Immediately, their minds linked and both of them knew the other; both were Anzati. In turn, Selene, trusting the fellow Anzati in front of her, also showed him her tentacle-like proboscises. As a response, the Anzati nodded in confirmation and retracted his proboscises. Being ordered to stand down by the mysterious man, the four cloaked humanoids returned their weapons to their holsters. The tall male Anzati gently took Selene by the upper arm and guided her back down the alley, where they continued to walk together while the four armed humanoids followed closely behind.
Family Crest |
The presence of a fellow Anzati in what she considered to be a hostile world preoccupied Selene’s mind. The two conversed telepathically as they walked, without producing a single sound beyond the movement of their feet over the pavement. While doing so, Selene explained to Anzati why she was on the planet and what she was looking for. In turn, he listened to Selene’s story with great interest and offered to help her, as he professed to know Kiffex well. After several blocks of wordless talking and walking, they reached a ground vehicle and all present boarded it. The Anzati offered Selene a seat next to him, while the four guards settled within the back of the vehicle. Without knowing where she was going but trusting her fellow Anzati, the conversation continued without interruption from the physical realm. At one point, when Selene referred to her adoptive father by name, the other Anzati’s eyes flew open in recognition. He went on to explain that he knew of her adoptive father’s work and told her the reason why her adoptive father had left the planet, in addition to the fact that he was not only well known but even famous on Kiffex. Upon being told this information, Selene took the necklace with the family crest off her neck and regarded it briefly while it rested upon the palm of her hand. Eventually, she extended it to the Anzati so that he could view it. “This is the Family Crest, I carry it with me,” Selene said to him. The Anzati nodded in understanding, for he had seen the emblem before. He told Selene that after her adoptive father had fled from the planet, his employer vowed to seek revenge by killing all of his family members. “Now, dear one, that family crest means nothing,” the Anzati said.
Upon those words, an icy silence enveloped the vehicle, only broken by Selene's gentle sobs. Her heart was saddened by the news of her adoptive family’s slaughter. After several minutes, the vehicle came to a stop in front of a large building. While Selene still grieved for the family she had never known, everyone got out of the vehicle and went towards the front door of the building. While her heart was heavy, she still followed the five beings inside. Safe, at last, and with a direction to pursue, Selene considered herself fortunate to have found a friendly face from among her own people. Additionally, she was grateful for the opportunity to have learned about the work of her adoptive father and of his escape from Kiffex from the Anzati who had taken her under his wings. Finally, after standing still for so long in her search, she had a place to start learning about her adoptive family. As such, during the days that followed, Selene and the Anzati visited the places where her adoptive family had lived and worked. She also gained access to databases containing all the studies and research conducted by her adoptive father. Selene felt indebted to the Anzati, as without his help she would not have learned as much about her adoptive father.
After she had learned all she could about her adoptive father’s life on Kiffex, Selene shared her own life story with the Anzati, including the attack that had caused her amnesia. In turn, he told her that he was not powerful enough to make her remember her past and roots, but he knew someone in the Anzat system who might be able to help her. With that, it was finally time for Selene to move on. She bade farewell to the Anzati and thanked him for all the help he had given her. While saying their farewells, she verified the name of the person she needed to speak with in the Anzat system that could help her to remember her life before the attack on Taris. Upon having gathered her belongings, Selene headed to the spaceport and arranged passage to the Anzat system.
Return to Anzat
Selene arriving on Anzat |
After Selene had found herself a way to reach the Anzat system, she left the homeworld of her father immediately. While her ship left the planet’s atmosphere, she watched Kiffex become smaller and smaller until it disappeared into the void space. After several days of traveling, the ship she was on left hyperspace and entered sublight travel, revealing to all passengers the Anzat system with all of its celestial bodies. The ship passed through the asteroid fields snaking through the system with ease and finally arrived at its destination, namely the planet Anzat.
After disembarking from the spacecraft, Selene muddled through all the bureaucracy and red tape of customs and finally began to search for a place to stay. After finding a quaint room with adequate facilities near the center of the city she had found herself in, she rested for a couple of days before beginning her search for the one that could help her lift the veil of forgetfulness and restore her memory.
Selene spent several days researching, finding out more about the person who could tell her more about who she was and where she came from. According to the information she had obtained, he was a wise and renowned Sage who had spent more than 1000 years counseling and advising the people of Anzat. Eager to meet the mystic, Selene arranged transportation to where the Sage worked.
Upon reaching her destination, Selene disembarked from the ground vehicle and stepped into the hustle and bustle of the city streets. As the office of the Sage was nestled tightly between two shops in the middle of the city block, it was hidden and barely noticeable as a separate structure between the two buildings. Upon reaching the entrance, Selene opened the door and stepped in, immediately being greeted by three wary guards. The men surrounded her, as they inquired about her business with the Sage with suspicion in their voices. Despite this, Selene stood her ground and showed no fear. With calm resolution, she explained to the guards that she was there to see the Sage for counsel and guidance. Taking note of her Human appearance and lack of typical Anzati features, the guards shook their heads to deny her request, stating that the Sage only served his people. In a last desperate attempt to convince them that she was one of the Anzati, Selene revealed her two tentacle proboscises. For a brief moment, the three guards were taken aback and confused, yet quickly came to the conclusion that this was not a ploy. Lowering their guard, the three men allowed Selene through to the reception to make her appointment with the Sage, yet they kept a close eye on her until she left the building.
While she was making her way back to her lodgings, Selene’s mind was racing. Finally, she was going to meet someone who could help her remember her past, even though the meeting with the Sage was seven days away. At last, she would receive all the answers to the questions she had about her past and her biological family. Overwhelmed with the prospect, the young Anzati had decided to pass the time until her meeting by touring the city and finding out more about the history and the people of the planet.
After seven days of eager anticipation, the day of her appointment with the Sage had finally come upon Selene. Like before, public transportation delivered her promptly to the entrance of the office she had visited a week before, and she entered, with a few moments to spare. She approached the reception desk nervously and stated her name and the reason for her appointment. Once the verification was complete, Selene was told to have a seat in the lobby and that she would be called upon shortly.
The final wait for her appointment proved to be the most excruciating one, as her mind became flooded with the various possible truths that could be revealed to her. In an effort to stave off the anxiety, she flipped through the datapad in the reception area, catching up on the latest news of the planet, looking at the artwork on the walls, and when all of that failed to help she simply started pacing. Finally, after a long wait, she was called into the office of the Sage. She passed through a final door and entered into what looked like a simple room. Near the window was a plain desk and chair with the usual necessary items placed with care and purpose upon it. A simple lamp sat on the corner of the desk, and for clients, there was a comfortable armchair next to a larger settee with comfortable pillows. All of the decors came in fairly neutral tones, mostly tans, and creams, with an occasional dark brown.
Selene on Anzati |
The Sage stood up from behind his desk when Selene entered the room. Once she had come into speaking distance, she bowed her head in a deep respect for the Sage who was about to help her remember her past. According to what she had learned about the man, he was the oldest living force-sensitive Anzati on the planet and was greatly revered for his mystical abilities. Selene was prompted to sit with a wave of his hand, which she promptly did. The Sage came around and seated himself closer to Selene, waiting for her to explain the purpose behind her visit. As she began telling her life’s story once more, he listened intently to Selene’s explanation as to why she had come to see him, and who had sent her on this long journey to find him. He seemed to understand the importance it held for Selene, as well as the need she felt to find the answers which had eluded her for so very long.
Listening intently, the Sage waited for Selene to finish her story. While she spoke, his patient, compassionate, and wise eyes remained locked onto hers, as he gently probed into her soul. Once Selene was finished, their eyes locked for several seconds before the Sage knelt beside Selene and gently took her hand in his, keeping his eyes locked with hers. As the elder Anzati did so, Selene felt a sense of peace and calm fall over her. Soon thereafter, she slipped into a state of deep relaxation as the Sage probed deeper and deeper into the recesses of her mind. Instantly, she slid into a deep sleep as images began to flood her brain in its dream-like state, with flashes of memories and realities passing through her subconscious that made no sense at first. In this state, Selene became confused and overwhelmed with emotions that suddenly crashed into her and flooded her soul. Her subconscious mind started to piece together the images from her past to form a coherent whole. As the images repeated in her head, the more memories they unlocked in her dream state and slowly wove themselves into a continuous stream of long-forgotten memories.
What felt like days, but was essentially only minutes, Selene eventually woke up with a start, not recognizing her surroundings. In her confusion, she found she was also angry and sad at the same time, and woke up not only confused but sobbing and screaming. Tears rolled down her cheeks, while she shouted words in her native tongue that she did not completely understand yet which somehow her mind knew. Breathing heavily while crying and shouting, she stood up and felt a gentle hand reach out and touch her shoulder. Immediately, her breathing steadied and a sense of calm came over her once more, as she realized she was in the office of the Sage.
Taking a deep breath and realizing she was safe, Selene seated herself again and began to collect her composure once more. At long last, she remembered everything from her past. She remembered the time she had spent as a child in the home of her parents, how one tragic and fateful day her biological Father and Mother were murdered. She remembered the name she had been given at birth, Leanea Eyre, even though she decided to keep her adoptive name as it was the name she felt the most connection with. She also remembered the names of her parents, her father Vugrar Mannak, and her mother, Fionn Eyre. Finally, after years upon years of questions without answers, everything made sense.
With tears in her eyes, Selene stood up. She thanked the Sage, and with his permission, she embraced him as a sign of gratitude for helping her remember who she was, but more importantly, what she was. With a final nod, she left the office of the Sage, knowing what her next step in her journey of remembering should be.
Stepping out into the bright light of the street, Selene immediately headed back to her lodgings to gather her belongings and arrange transportation to Anzat IV thereafter. While doing so, she finally realized how complete she felt, and her heart sang with happiness at that realization. With everything that she remembered, it was finally time for Selene to meet the remainder of her family. As such, she boarded a transport bound for Anzat IV, preparing herself for the meeting with her remaining kin. Yet, while she was eager to be with her biological family, Selene was aware that her human-like appearance might make her relatives distrust her, or look upon her as an outsider. This was a fear that kept gnawing at her while she made the in-system transit between planets.
After arriving on Anzat IV, Selene made her way to where the Eyre Estate was located and eventually came to stand before its entrance. After announcing her presence and intentions, she was greeted by Anassa Valeriya Eyre, who was her cousin within the clan. Initially, Valeriya was puzzled by the unfamiliar woman standing before her. Yet, when Selene went on to explain who she was and why she was there, all doubts vanished from Valeriya's face, and she welcomed her long-lost cousin inside. For the rest of the evening and many hours into the night, Selene spent sharing her life story with her cousin, and Valeriya filled in any blanks with recent family history.
In the end, Selene was welcomed with open arms by the remainder of the Eyre Family, now her family. In the months that followed, she continued to stay at the Eyre Estate and learned all about her family and the vast, rich history of her ancestors. Finally, Selene had found a place to call home once more.
Tresario Star Kingdom
Gida and Selene |
Selene in family's mansion |
During the time that she lived among her relatives, Selene had never felt happier. Slowly but gradually, she got to know every one of her family members that lived within the main estate. Through countless conversations with them, she learned all about the clan’s history, and about the lives of her parents and other family members. Those relatives who did not live within the primary Eyre residence Selene got to know through family events organized by Anassa Valeriya Eyre, which were always a grand and pleasant affair.
While staying at the Eyre Estate, Selene grew close to every family member but formed a very strong and deep connection with one relative in particular, namely her cousin Angwyn Eyre, with whom she came to spend almost all of her free time. When the two of them were together, Angwyn shared all the stories that he knew about the family and how they had conquered their position in Anzati society with his cousin, which fascinated her endlessly.
The years went by and Angwyn and Selene became not only close, but they also became intimate with one another. Despite their blood relation, Selene fell in love with her cousin Angwyn Eyre, and he was with her. Naturally, they kept their love affair a secret from their kin and the rest of the universe. Yet, this did not stop them from passing almost all of their free time together away from the public eye, because they did not want their forbidden love affair to be discovered. After all, it would be a great dishonor to be romantically involved with a relative, but deep down neither of them cared.
Yet, despite the fiery passion they had felt at the start, the intimate relationship between Angwyn and Selene faded with time. Selene had found other ways to spend her time and focused her attention on other matters. Quite unexpectedly, she found that her life with her family was becoming boring, while her relationship with Angwyn had become almost non-existent due to her mounting disinterest and his other commitments. Eventually, Selene started looking for reasons and excuses to avoid being alone with Angwyn, and after a final realization that she felt nothing romantic towards her cousin anymore she decided to end it. The pair had a long, emotional conversation and decided it was best for both to go their separate ways. And so, their long, secret love affair ended amidst tears and embraces. For while their feelings of love and attraction had died out, their friendship did not. Instead, their friendship persevered.
Nonetheless, Selene had grown bored with her current situation to such a degree that she began looking for a political group or organization to join to break up the monotony of her daily existence and challenge her mind with new experiences. After she had spent a good amount of time orienting herself, she felt pulled towards the Tresario Star Kingdom, the local interstellar government that the Anzat system was a part of. After she had joined its ranks and passed the necessary training and exams, she learned many things about piloting, prospecting and mining, and construction. It was during her time with the Kingdom that she met Gida Freetaa, a friendly but reserved Twi’lek of Rutian stock. While spending significant time with Gida, Selene discovered her bisexual side and fell in love with the beautiful and exotic woman. Both women enjoyed one another’s company greatly, in addition to having a passionate, lustful love affair in the period that followed. While being Gida’s paramour, Selene found that she preferred lesbian relationships over straight ones. Unfortunately, as is so often the case with life in the galaxy, their love and passion wilted and dried out over time. Shortly thereafter, Selene parted ways with the Tresario Star Kingdom after coming into conflict with one of the government’s highest officials. She never saw Gida Freetaa again, as several months after her departure from the ranks of the Tresario government, Selene learned that Gida had passed away quite unexpectedly. A fact that, despite the end of their relationship, left a terrible wound within the Anzati’s heart.

In the months since her departure from the Tresario Star Kingdom, Selene had chosen to work as a freelancer, and she found she enjoyed being her own boss with the freedom to choose her endeavors. During this time, she had left the Anzat System, improved her hunting skills, and created her own small base of operations out in deep space. Yet, after having spent months in solitude, Selene found she desired to be in the company of others once more, and decided to search for another worthy cause to join. After all, she realized her mental well-being thrived the most when she was surrounded by other sentients.
After spending considerable time researching and orienting herself once again, Selene decided that joining the Trade Federation would be the best option for her and would best suit her needs. After her application was approved, Selene was required to go through the Academy for training, where she passed all the tests and requirements of the Trade Federation. Upon her graduation, she decided to join the Ministry of Defense where she would prove her value and dedication. During her time with the Defense Ministry, Selene participated in several daring missions and honed her skills not only as a pilot but in other areas as well. Over time, her dedication to the Trade Federation was generously compensated with promotions, rewards, credits, and medals. As a member of the Trade Federation, Selene met many good people with whom she established meaningful friendships, all the while learning valuable trade skills, and gaining invaluable experience in the ways of the galaxy.
From all her missions as a member of the Federation’s Ministry of Defense, Selene found the organization’s settlement project on Jakku to be the most rewarding. During that time, she took part in the discovery of a new planet in the galaxy, and all that such a momentous event entailed. She learned how to patrol and build, and was part of the security team during the colonization of this newly found planet.
After she had spent seven months with the Trade Federation and its Ministry of Defense, and in particular with the Jakku mission coming to an end, Selene found herself growing bored and restless once more. She longed for new experiences and to meet new people. Fortunately, the options to change departments within the Trade Federation were plentiful. After a brief deliberation, she decided to change Ministries, while still remaining with the Trade Federation, as she felt respected and well-treated within its ranks. She decided that the Ministry of Interior would best suit her needs, and give her more experience within the many options that the Trade Federation had to offer. With approval from her Command and the acceptance from the new department, Selene made the transfer to the Ministry of Interior after the Jakku Mission had been concluded successfully.
Selene’s department change to the Department of Industry, which was under the command of the Ministry of Interior, was fast and smooth. Once there, she became involved in construction projects across the Federation space. Some of these endeavors were long-term, as they involved the planning and realization of entire ecumenopolises. This afforded Selene the opportunity to meet new members of the Trade Federation that she had never seen before, in both the northern and southern sectors of the galaxy that the government controlled.
Selene found that her new job was both diverse and motivating. Time passed by quickly, and it was easy to stay dedicated and focused on her missions, as in the Ministry of Interior there was never a dull moment between the building, logistics, and mining projects that she was assigned. She also built new friendships there, as she had done in her previous department. Yet, since her last relationship with Gida Freeta, she had kept her heart locked. Knowing Gida had passed away cut a deep wound in her heart, even though their relationship had ended a long time ago. As she found she needed time to heal from the loss she experienced, she was not willing to open her heart to anyone yet. Losing herself in her work helped her to ease the heartbreak she felt every time her former Twi’lek paramour crossed her mind. As a result, she came to display fierce dedication and commitment to the Federation’s cause, which in turn eased the pain of loss she experienced.
As time went by, Selene’s dedication and hard work paid off. She eventually caught the attention of her Commander, which allowed her to rise through the ranks of the Federation. In turn, the rewards and promotions that came her way motivated Selene to work even harder. In the moments when she did not work, Selene enjoyed hunting creatures and the scum of the galaxy. She always loved studying her prey before going in for the kill, as her many years of hunting had taught her that she needed to eliminate any target quickly to avoid being hurt. After all, hunting was one of Selene’s favorite hobbies when she had some downtime from work. She loved the thrill of the hunt, the challenges each encounter presented, and the opportunities she received to sharpen and hone her skills. Perhaps quite oddly, Selene came to appreciate hunting as a relaxing hobby, and an excellent way to take her mind off the sense of loneliness she experienced in the wake of losing Gida Freetaa.
Selene's hunting |
One day, after another successful mission had been accomplished, Selene was called to the office of the Minister of the Interior, where her commander offered her the position of Director of Operations. At that moment, she was momentarily speechless, as she was surprised by the invitation, for it had never crossed her mind that she would be considered a candidate for the position, despite it being one of her career goals. The thing that surprised her the most was that this goal would be achieved in the span of only two years. Graciously and with honor she had accepted and her life changed completely thereafter. With a great number of Federation employees relying on her for guidance and direction, Selene felt a great responsibility for those under her command. Yet, this only motivated her to do her job well, as she welcomed the challenges that came with her new rank and position within the Federation.
As a director, Selene managed the entire Department of Operations within the Trade Federation, which proved to be a demanding position. In addition to organizing teams to move assets, as well as assigning missions and equipment, she was also required to maintain direct contact with all other sectors of the Federation’s governmental structure and their managing directors. Despite the challenges, Selene took the responsibility seriously and maintained a well-organized and motivated department. Her efforts and dedication were often recognized by her superiors through many awards and promotions. As a result, she found the new position very rewarding and fulfilling at that time, while still managing to find time for herself and her hunting hobby.
Yet, as the shine of the new position wore off and routine became the name of the game, Selene saw her interest and motivation slipping as boredom settled in once more. With the mounting responsibilities, she found she had no more time for the many side jobs she enjoyed spending time on. Eventually, the duties and responsibilities that were placed on her shoulders overwhelmed her, which caused her new role to feel more like imprisonment with each passing day, which took a great toll on the Anzati. Realizing this could not continue, Selene decided to approach her Command regarding her current state of mind and her position as a director. After several lengthy conversations with the Federation’s High Command, it was decided that Selene would lead the nationalized faction Rendili StarDrive. It was a less demanding position that gave Selene time to regroup, recharge, and have more opportunities to do all that she loved, namely hunting and private trading.
The Force Awakening
During her time with the Trade Federation, Selene occasionally experienced inexplicable sensations, as if her perception sharpened beyond what was typical for her race, approaching something akin to extrasensory awareness until things began to change subtly - brief, fleeting moments where she sensed events just before they unfolded, like a whisper on the edge of her consciousness. At first, she dismissed these incidents as odd coincidences, but as they continued, their persistence grew harder to ignore.
One evening, while negotiating with a questionable client, an intense urge to leave the meeting early suddenly seized her. Though no apparent threat existed, the impulse was overwhelming, and she decided to follow it. Moments after her departure, the meeting site was ambushed by bounty hunters — a betrayal she couldn’t have foreseen without some hidden guidance.
These uncanny experiences became more frequent, leaving Selene increasingly uneasy. She began to feel a subtle warmth at the edge of her awareness when in the presence of certain people or objects, as if guided by an invisible energy. Then, one night, after a tense argument with Olwin Froon, her rank superior, Selene stormed from his office, fury simmering as she returned to her quarters. Overwhelmed, she released her anger in an unrestrained scream. In that instant, an unseen force seemed to pulse through the room. Small decorative objects flew from their shelves, crashing against the walls as if responding to her outburst. Selene froze, stunned. She hadn’t touched a single item—yet they had moved, echoing her release of rage. As silence settled over the room, Selene was left shaken, her heart pounding with the dawning, unsettling realization: something within her was changing, something she could neither dismiss nor explain.
In the quiet of her quarters, Selene eventually felt compelled to try meditating — a practice she’d once dismissed but now felt drawn to. During her first attempt, visions overwhelmed her: faces and places unknown, intense feelings of both peace and turmoil and the sensation of a vast, interconnected web binding the galaxy together. She emerged from the meditation dazed and shaken, realizing that these occurrences weren’t mere chance—they were fragments of an immense, unknowable puzzle.
With this insight, Selene sought out Jedi Master Marco Salo, and over several hours, confided in him about her strange experiences. Master Salo listened carefully before revealing that she was attuned to the Force, a mystical energy said to permeate all life. Slowly, Selene began to understand that her growing awareness was no trick of the mind but a true connection to this all-encompassing energy.
Following that revelation, Selene became Salo’s Padawan, and under his mentorship, she embarked on an intensive study of the Force. She delved into the secrets of this ancient power, learning to wield it with skill and discipline. Alongside her studies, she began rigorous lightsaber training, constantly under Master Salo’s watchful eye, who carefully corrected her technique, helping her hone her combat style and mastery of the weapon. Thus, Selene Kahn’s journey into the Force began, transforming her life as she learned to trust and channel the mysterious energy that had called to her all along.
Infinite Fire
The stately halls of the Trade Federation Palace, nestled in the heart of the capital, had often been a place of strategy and ambition for Selene. She was familiar with every detail, from the polished stone floors that caught the light of distant stars to the quiet, solemn statues of long-past leaders that lined the walls. She walked those halls with purpose, her high heeled boots echoing as she made her way to yet another meeting with Jacob Jassen, the Trade Federation’s influential leader. These meetings were usually routine for her, a chance to discuss the progress of Rendili StarDrive, the faction she was leading with determination. But this time, an unusual weight lingered in the air, an almost palpable gravity that hinted at an unexpected turn. When she sat before Jacob, in his large office overlooking the shimmering cityscape, he relayed news that would change her course. He revealed new plans for Redili StarDrive, plans that involved removing her from the helm of the faction. It was a decision that rendered her work, her sacrifices, and her ambition secondary to the Federation’s shifting agenda. The leader rank, her symbol of authority and achievement within Redili StarDrive, was to be passed to another. As she walked out of the palace that day, Selene felt both a pang of loss and a spark of something new. Redili StarDrive had been her work, but if the Trade Federation had other uses for it, then so be it. She would not sit idly by while her vision was repurposed by someone else. In those quiet moments of reflection, she felt the stirrings of a resolve that would soon take shape as Infinite Fire.
Selene left the Trade Federation, parting ways with the organization that had been her sphere of influence and set out to create her own faction. In a short period of time, the galaxy learned of her bold new endeavor: Infinite Fire, a trading faction designed to carry out her unrestrained vision for commerce, free from the bureaucratic oversight she had once known. Infinite Fire became a symbol of resilience, fuelled by Selene’s drive to create a place where trade flowed freely, unconstrained by politics or alliances. As the faction leader, Selene poured her energy into making Infinite Fire a galactic force, and soon, it became a recognized name in the trade. The faction's emblem, a red infinite symbol enveloped in flames, reflected the unquenchable spirit she had imbued into her work. Her influence expanded from the bustling markets of Coruscant to the remote fringes of the Outer Rim, where even the smallest ports began to see her faction's shipments. While she led Infinite Fire, Selene’s life filled with activity and connections. She brokered countless deals with independent traders, planetary governments, and even smugglers who operated in the shadowed underworld of galactic trade. She was relentless, a presence who thrived in the give-and-take of negotiation, and she built a network that included powerful allies and occasional adversaries. Her reputation spread as a leader who valued loyalty, ingenuity, and above all, the freedom to pursue profit without the restrictions of traditional rule.
Time was passing, and Infinite Fire grew, becoming a beacon for those who sought opportunity outside the traditional trade sphere. Selene’s faction attracted individuals from every corner of the galaxy: seasoned merchants, skilled engineers, and cunning negotiators, all drawn to the independence her faction offered. She met beings from a thousand different backgrounds, each connection adding to the diverse fabric of Infinite Fire. In the bustling ports and grand trading halls where her influence reigned, Selene became known as a force of change and innovation, one who inspired both loyalty and ambition in those she encountered. As Infinite Fire reached the height of its success, Selene decided to take a step back. Recognizing that her faction had reached stability and strength capable of enduring on its own, she made the calculated decision to sell her Trading Faction, passing her creation into capable hands. It was a choice that marked the end of her chapter as its leader but allowed her faction to continue evolving under new guidance.
Tion Hegemony
After parting ways with Infinite Fire, Selene Kahn found herself unmoored, freed from the constant responsibilities of running a faction but left with an emptiness that only the thrill of the hunt seemed able to fill. The galaxy was vast, its reaches teeming with challenges and dangerous contracts, and so she dove into life as a freelancer, unbound and ready to make her mark. She embraced the art of bounty hunting with the same precision she had once devoted to leading her faction, honing her skills until she became a name to be reckoned with in criminal circles.
Her reputation grew quickly, aided by the unmistakable ruthlessness and discipline she displayed with each completed contract. She traveled from planet to planet, hunting down criminals who thought themselves untouchable, and outwitting those who tried to flee across the galaxy’s fringes. Selene had a knack for catching her targets with efficiency and, at times, a surprising elegance — she preferred clean captures, ones that kept her clients satisfied and kept her name unblemished in a trade rife with mercenaries willing to do anything for credits. This integrity set her apart and helped solidify her reputation among clients who valued both results and discretion. For a time, the freelance life invigorated her, filling her days with adrenaline and her nights with hard-won victories that felt like personal triumphs.
When she wasn’t chasing criminals, she was drawn to the challenge of hunting some of the galaxy’s most elusive creatures. These expeditions often took her to the wilds of unknown planets where harsh environments and unpredictable wildlife kept her skills sharp. She developed a deep respect for the creatures she hunted, even as she learned their movements and devised new strategies to survive their unique habitats. From the arid deserts of Tatooine to the dense, misty jungles of Onderon, Selene tracked beasts both legendary and lethal, each encounter a test of her endurance and adaptability. It was a lonely life, but one of purpose; the thrill of each hunt was a balm to her restlessness, a chance to prove herself again and again.
But the isolation of freelance work began to weigh on her, an ache that even the most exhilarating hunts couldn’t satisfy. No matter how many victories she claimed or criminals she captured, her successes felt hollow without anyone to share them with. Her solitude was once a refuge, but now it loomed as a reminder of the empty spaces her life had come to contain. She found herself longing for the camaraderie she had left behind in times that she belonged to Trade Federation, for a place where she could use her talents to build something enduring. Slowly, she began to consider the idea of joining another faction, though she knew it would take a truly unique alliance to make her trust in such a commitment again.
It was during one of these reflective periods that she crossed paths with Abraari To, a respected leader within the Tion Hegemony. Their initial conversation was businesslike, both of them guarded and observant, yet something in Abraari’s demeanour suggested he was open to hearing what she had to say. Abraari, known for his pragmatic leadership and tactical insight, was intrigued by her reputation and the experience she had amassed as both a faction leader and a freelancer. Selene seized the opportunity to make her case, presenting her terms with the same clarity and directness that had defined her career. She told him that she wanted not just a role within Tion Hegemony, but a place where her skills could be used to their fullest potential — a position of influence, where her experience could contribute meaningfully to the Tion Hegemony’s larger goals.
Abraari considered her proposal with a discerning eye, weighing the risk of taking on such an independent spirit against the benefits her knowledge and expertise would bring to the faction. Her unique background as both a strategist and a bounty hunter made her an asset who could navigate both Tion’s formal structure and the galaxy’s underworld. With careful words, Abraari offered her a place within the government ranks of the Tion Hegemony, granting her a position where her autonomy would be respected, and her skills would be applied to the faction’s most sensitive and high-stakes missions.
Joining the Tion Hegemony was more than an employment decision for Selene — it was a homecoming of sorts, a return to shared goals and structured camaraderie. For the first time in a long while, she felt the renewed pulse of purpose and belonging. Her role within the Hegemony became one that bridged her past and her future; she was entrusted with the freedom to operate as she always had, but now with the resources and support of an organized faction behind her. Selene’s work in Tion Hegemony quickly took on its own rhythm. She handled delicate missions that required her unique touch, dealing with threats that demanded both the precision of a seasoned bounty hunter and the insight of a former faction leader. Her colleagues within the Hegemony came to respect her not only for her reputation but for her unwavering loyalty and keen intellect, her quiet yet fierce dedication to the faction’s ideals. And as Selene found herself surrounded by allies once more, her role became more than a new beginning — it was the second chance at purpose she hadn’t realized she’d been searching for.
