Commodore Terrence Voridian Thorne, also known as Darth Khaine, was a decorated officer in Emperor Vodo Bonias' Galactic Empire,[1] and later a well-known member of the Force-sensitive Imperial Knights in the separatist movement known as New Imperial Order.
While serving in Bonias' Empire, he was captured and tortured by the SoroSuub Corporation. Due to the alleged intractability of Grand Moff Daelin Zerk, Thorne was not rescued by the Empire and abandoned to his fate. Zerk's unwillingness or inability to rescue Thorne was later publicly cited by Steward Garen Karrade as greatly disillusioning a large number of high-ranking officers with Zerk's leadership as the Imperial Chief of Staff and thus precipitating the Third Imperial Civil War. According to fragmented records, Thorne was later killed by bounty hunters circa Year 7.[2]
Biography
Terrence Thorne was born on Kuat in the Kuat system. Terrence had one younger brother, Markus, and one sister, Katrine. While a child, Terrence grew fond of large capital ships. He could sit for hours looking up unto the sky and watch capital ships arrive and depart from the Kuat Drive Yards and Repair Docks. He sat dreaming about how it must feel to be flying around outside the planet, commanding these vast vessels.
Both of Terrence's parents were loyal Imperials. His father worked in one of the repair docks as a senior manager. His mother labored in the Imperial administration on Kuat where she ensured that the request for materials matched the materials received.
At an early age Terrence joined the Imperial Army. Although the Navy was where he wanted to go, he wanted to get the feel of being the man on the ground first. Thus he spent some years within the Army so that he had an understanding of their motives by the time he transferred to the Imperial Navy. His brother, Markus, on the contrary joined up with the Navy first, believing that Terrence's decision was a dumb choice. His sister Katrine worked in one of the Kuat medical centers as an assistant surgeon.
One thing separated Thorne from the normal Imperial was his lack of hatred for the Rebellion. He believed that hating someone would often lead to the wrong conclusion being drawn and result in the wrong decision being made at the wrong time. Growing up with Imperial parents and in the Imperial system had taught Thorne to be decisive and demanding. These were talents he already possessed, but this experience just made them stronger.
