Biology and Appearance
The Kiffar are a Human-like species usually with a darker complexion than many other Humans and black to dark brown hair. Roughly one in a hundred Kiffar have the ability called psychometry. This trait enables those with it to read the memories of inanimate objects (including formerly animate objects, such as corpses or cremated remains) by touch. It is not normal for this ability to grant those with it to read living sentient or animals.
Society and Culture
The Kiffar reside on the planet Kiffex and most of them live organized in clans. Characteristically the Kiffar living in clans have their faces tattooed to show their belonging to this clan. The clans are very often keeper of an artifact, an ancient building or other culturally important place or object. Those Kiffar that do not belong to an organized clan are referred to with the term austerder. This also extends to other sentients outside the species and is considered for the most part derogatory. Kiffar austerders are treated with discrimination by their clanned brethren due to the circumstances usually associated with clanless Kiffar. Those that no longer have membership within a clan, or were not born into one (IE born or adopted off world by non-Kiffar, are descendants of a mixed relationship, or other circumstances), are considered second class to clanned members of the species. The hierarchy between clans is also very strict, with a distinction between major, minor, and ouvrir clans, as well as the distinction between Northern and Southern clans.

Notable Northern Clans and Kiffar
Clan Prax
Born from the ashes of the fabled First Clan, Clan Prax are the guardians of one of the holiest of locations on Kiffex, the Mountian of the Gods. They currently proclaim to welcome all those who wish to worship there in peace with the protection of strong leadership and able warriors who believe in freedom, most willing to die for that belief. For several decades Prax was regularly the target of raids from the west by Clan Tor until the Battle of Vyder where Prax soundly defeated Tor thus absorbing their land and citizens and becoming the sole power of the North. Today Prax is a quickly developing clan taking in some modern luxeries the rest of the galaxy has enjoyed for sometime. Despite this recent modernisation, Prax still stays firm in their roots, and functions as a magnet for Northerners and pilgrims alike due to its proximity to a sacred mountain range, known as the Spine of the Gods.
