Yaneta Ora was a female Twi'lek native to the planet Ryloth in the Gaulus sector. She was born in Year 0 and came from a family of local, small-time traders and street performers. Yaneta grew up in the streets of Kala'uun, the capital city of her homeworld, while helping her parents manage their market stalls with pieces of jewelry handcrafted by the Ora family. As a result, she was already taught the art of commerce and trade as a young child, and after she had come of age she was entrusted with a few market stalls of her own to manage and maintain.

During her adolescence, Yaneta became involved with a clandestine, pacifist Twi'lek resistance movement that sought to free Ryloth from corrupt foreign influences. The activities of the group became known to the planetary authorities, and its members were rounded up and locked away in prison. With the help of elements of the Rebel Alliance that were present on the planet at that time, Yaneta managed to avoid arrest and flee her homeworld. Grateful to and intrigued by those that had helped her, the Twi'lek was recruited by the Rebel Alliance and enrolled within its Academy.

In Year 23, Yaneta graduated from the Alliance's academy with a reward for academic excellence, and she became a member of the government's civil engineering service. Shortly thereafter, she was found to be Force Sensitive and became a member of the newly formed Jedi Praxeum as a Jedi Padawan. She has been training and developing her strength within the Force on her own ever since, while working for the Rebel Alliance as a civil engineer.

Biography

Early Life (Year 0 - Year 19)

Yaneta was born into the Ora family - an old Twi'lek clan - which lived in Ryloth's capital city of Kala'uun. She was the second child but first daughter of Donn and Vebe Ora, and had an older brother named Nuen, and later a younger sister called Safina. The three siblings grew up on Vao's Street, where the Ora clan owned a couple of adjacent houses that had gradually fused together over the generations. The Ora family had always been a tight unit, and this was no different for Yaneta and her cousins. They grew up often playing and learning together throughout their early childhood, and into their early teens as well.

The Ora family was well known on Vao's Street for their craftsmanship in jewellery making, their artful practice of commerce and trade, as well as their talented street performers bringing Twi'lek dance and song to life. As such, Yaneta helped her parents at their vendor stalls in Kala'uun's market squares already as a young girl, yet started to be actively prepared for a role in the daily commerce and trade of Kala'uun in her early teens. Once she had reached early adolescence, Yaneta's parents started to entrust their oldest daughter with the responsibility of managing a couple of market stalls by herself, which she did with profitable success. It was during this time, however, that Yaneta came in contact with a very small underground group of pacifist Twi'lek nationalists called the Soyiy, meaning 'movement' in the Twi'lek native tongue Ryl.

The Soyiy secretly opposed what they called "the apathetic and indifferent rule" of the Tenloss Syndicate over Ryloth. Its members primarily consisted of idealistic young Twi'leks, dreaming of a free and prosperous Ryloth governed by their own people, and not a foreign power. Yaneta gradually came to associate with the movement in her late teens by going to their secret meetings, and eventually became a full member of the group.

The Soyiy (Year 19 - Year 23)

The activities of the Soyiy were entirely peaceful and non-violent. They provided limited relief efforts to the poor and downtrodden of Kala'uun, and other underdeveloped parts of the planet, while trying to recruit anyone that might be sympathetic to their cause. As such, Yaneta helped the Twi'lek movement primarily by funding the group with the sales she made, and by acting as a middle for the messages that were being passed between her fellow members. However, the group was too naïve and inexperienced in its endeavours, and trusted the wrong people as a result. At the start of Year 23, a couple of Twi'lek in the planetary law enforcement division who were sympathetic to the Tenloss Syndicate administration had become aware of the activities of the Soyiy, and launched a covert operation to round up its members in secret, and silently remove them as a potential threat.

Yaneta managed to avoid capture with the help of a couple of Rebel Alliance pilots that had stopped by Ryloth for refueling and resupply. Recognising her predicament, the Rebel pilots persuaded the Twi'lek to come with them instead, and join the Alliance to continue her efforts against governmental apathy and indifference, and tyranny in the galaxy. Yaneta was well-aware of the fact that her continued presence on Ryloth could endanger her entire family, and the Rebel pilots played on her strong ties to her kin to convince her to join the Rebellion's fight against the Galactic Empire and Imperial Union for them. With only a brief and rushed farewell, Yaneta parted ways with her parents and family, and left her homeworld of Ryloth to join the Rebel Alliance, knowing she might never return.

A Rebel and Jedi (Year 23 - Present)

While deeply affected by the sudden isolation from her family and the forced departure from her home, Yaneta was committed to her new life and the prospect of becoming a member of the Rebel Alliance. The Rebel pilots had brought the Twi'lek to the Alliance's Academy, where she enrolled within the civilian educational track. In the months that followed, Yaneta proved to be a diligent and dutiful student, and managed to graduate with an Alliance reward for academic excellence. She became a civil engineer, and received her first assignment in the Tythe system shortly thereafter.

During her work for the Rebel Alliance in the Tythe system, Yaneta came under the supervision of a member of the Knight of the Rebellion, who quickly picked up on her - until then - hidden Force Sensitivity. She was given the option to continue to keep her gift a secret, or to join the order of Force Sensitives serving the Rebel Alliance. Yaneta chose the latter, and as the Knights of the Rebellion were transitioning into the Jedi Praxeum at that time, she joined its newly formed ranks as a Jedi Padawan, while continuing her work as a civil engineer for the Alliance.

Personality

Yaneta is a kind-hearted individual by nature, and has a genuine drive to be a help to the people around her. She values honesty, fairness, kindness and loyalty, while shunning apathy, ruthlessness and narrow-mindedness. She believes that most people in the galaxy are capable of doing good, yet that too many come under negative influences and are driven to do harm instead. As such, she is convinced that it is the duty of those who choose to do good to help clear the galaxy from those negative influence, and to bring light to the hopeless and despaired. However, she is aware that those negative influences won't always flee from the light on their own, and often will have to be forced to do so, at times by extreme measures. As such, Yaneta tends to avoid violence at all costs, but she will defend what she holds dear or what she believes in if no other alternative remains.

Generally, Yaneta can be considered as pleasant company, even if she tends to be shy and introverted. She is often willing to provide a listening ear to those who need it, or to simply be present with someone for support and comfort, even if it is in companionable silence. The more she comes to trust another person or grows closer to them, the more she opens up and becomes more talkative and sociable. Those who know her closest probably would remark positively on her mischievous sense of humour, and catchy laughter. Similarly, they would say Yaneta shows both too sparingly, and that she should take things and affairs less seriously. As far too often a joke will go over her lekku, while she takes its meaning too literally.

What few people know, however, is that Yaneta also carries a well-hidden sadness within her. This sadness stems from missing her kin, as she had grown up in a tight family unit, as well as missing her homeworld of Ryloth, and the city of Kala'uun. Sometimes this will manifest itself in a smile that doesn't quite reach her eyes, or in brief periods where Yaneta is more silent and withdrawn than usual. In these moments, she tends to seek solitude and isolation, to process her emotions in order to continue with affairs as usual the following day. As she is an optimist by nature, Yaneta firmly believes that she will one day be able to return to Ryloth and embrace her family again, yet the part of her that is a realist also knows that this may take years or even decades before it happens. Yet hope is Yaneta's primary instrument, one that she'll refuse to let go of until the bitter end.

Powers & Abilities

A novice in the ways of the Force, Yaneta has only just begun training the basic abilities most Force Users are already familiar with. As she has chosen to be an adherent of the Light Side of the Force, she has focused her initial training on mastering the powers of healing and the more mystical aspects of the Force. Yaneta yearns to uncover the deeper truths of the enigmatic power that binds all of the galaxy together, and so she devotes much of her free time to studying the nature of the Force. In this way, she is following the traditions and customs of the Jedi Consulars of old, focusing more on learning the ways of the Force than the martial abilities it grants access to.

Despite her focus on the more mystical and scholarly aspects of the Force, Yaneta doesn't neglect her physical and martial training. Currently relying on an old-fashioned vibroblade, she is learning how to defend herself and those around her with non-projectile weapons, while starting to develop a basic understanding of lightsaber combat. Nonetheless, she still often relies on projectile weaponry, having been trained in its use by martially adept family members on Ryloth.
