The Corpse Flower is one of the eiriest, strangest flowers in the galaxy. It got its name from its unsettling habit of growing on the graves of the dead, and nowhere else. Even more unsettling was how quickly the plant would appear after burial, sometimes taking as little as a day to sprout on the graves.

Taxonomy

The Corpse Flower is one of the strangest adaptations of flowering plants in the galaxy. Known as Nekrosi mewt in scientific literature, the Corpse Flowers strange characteristics come from its root system. Unlike any other known species of plant N. mewt feeds directly on decaying organic material. There are even unconfirmed reports of the Corpse Flower growing directly out of severed body parts. N. mewt seems specialized for sentients only, as it has never been observed growing from creature burial grounds or corpses. The roots absorb decaying organic material in much the same way the Lightcap mushroom does, leading some scientists to speculate that N. mewt has been misclassified and should be classified as a mushroom rather than a plant. However, other scientists counter that mushrooms do not have flowers as N. mewt does and thus the Corpse Flower is actually a flower as it appears.

Gardening

The Corpse Flower is rarely used for gardening due to the incredible difficulty in keeping it alive without allowing it access to dead sentients. However, cemeteries frequently plant the Corpse Flower. As a perennial, it is easy for the cemetery to maintain and helps make the graves less mournful with it's graceful white flowers. The only real drawback with the Corpse Flower is its addiction to dead sentients. It is equally comfortable in sun or shade and require little to no watering. It is easy to grow from seed as well, making it the perfect plant for low maintenance facilities throughout the galaxy. Experiments are being performed to try to determine if it is possible for the Corpse Flower to feed off more than deceased sentients.
