Crowley grew up under conflicting points of views. His mother Lieutenant Colonel Lynn Moonwood, was strict wanting her son to become a fighter and to hopefully join her in the fight against the Empire. While his father Daniel Moonwood was a spacer often taking odd jobs across the galaxy he often help with the evacuation of victims from war zones. Daniel was less strict when it came to discipline unless it was flying, he was often found drinking and hanging around other girls much to the demise of his wife Lynn. How the two married is still some what mystery and to this day Crowley is still not sure if he was told the truth of it. Never the less it wasn't easy for the young boy growing up with one family member being strict and the other letting him do whatever he wanted unless it was to dangerous.

At the age of seven young Crowley wanted to learn as much as he could he would ask his parents about there adventures, Lynn would use this opportunity to try and teach tactics and different other life lessons while Daniel at his son request begin to teach him how to speak Bocce. Soon Crowley begin his lessons in how to pilot a ship, this time with his father was one of the beast in his young life seeing that he didn't have to learn to be proper and act as if he was in the military, his father carefree look on life soon begin to rub off sure enough Crowly was more interested in getting in trouble any chance he had and spending time wanting to fly. Lynn disapprove stating that he would make nothing of himself if he just fly around the galaxy, getting into fights and acting like his father. She begin to train her son in unarmed and arm combat demanding him to focuses and to be perfect at all times, she made sure to enforce military policies having him salute and beginning or ending all sentence with either a 'Ma'am' or a 'Sir'. Crowly hated this he all ways felt as if he was a mindless drown, he made sure that his mother knew how he felt regardless of the consequence. The only thing the young boy mind was the knowledge he received in fighting believing that he would some day use this. Lynn begin to teach her son her native language of Hapan believing that he should know where his heritage came from.

At the age of ten both Crowley parents were called away to a emergency, leaving there only son with Lynn father while they went off to fight. It was three months before the young boy and his grandfather heard any thing from his family, his mother return home with sad news. During there mission Daniel Moonwood was killed in action trying to fly a ship full of civilians away from the war zone his ship was destroy by a star destroyer, Lynn received the news until after the mission was over.

Upon hearing the news both Crowley and Lynn grieved in there own way, Crowley begin to concentrate more on his training during his free time he would read about ship's and try to fix his father old YT-1300. More often he would sneak away from his home running around town with a few of his friends, all most every time he snuck out he was drag back in by the local authority which would bring on his mother wrath. Lynn refuse to become depressed with her promotion to Colonel and getting a transfer to run a military academy, she begin to focuses more on her work and decided to increase Crowley's training in hopes that her only son would be able to survive. Over the past five years Lynn became increasingly frustrated with Crowley's lack of motivation and his behavior, this was not the way she raise him with his constant escape from the house and being brought back by authority it was a miracle that her own son was not arrested. In a final solution Lynn decide to enroll Crowley into the military academy she was in charge off she believe in doing this that her son would hopefully gain respect not only for himself but would see that going into the military would be better then just flying around in a ship with no purpose not being able to help citizens in need.
