Talk:Harassment charges against Vodo

From Holocron - Star Wars Combine

I think Vodo's OOC attachment to the last message as well as the OOC notice at the end is important for the image of the Combine and we should rather compromise on the IC nature of this wiki in this particular case.--Dreighton 22:57, 3 March 2011 (GMT)

Okay, I skimmed through the content of the mails. While I can see how some of these events would be interesting to get somewhat of a perspective on how Vodo was for people who did not know him or serve under him, the way it is presented here has no place on an IC wiki, imo. The content of the mail exchange could either be summarized and partially quoted in an "First Reign" section of Vodo's article, or possibly a "Personality & Characteristics" section. The mail exchange simply contains too many references to ICQ, RL, "the simulation," "Lord Vader" and so on to warrant its place here on the Holocron in its unedited state. I also believe that rather than just copying and pasting these old e-mails, at least an attempt should be made to wikify the content and delete the German parts of them and so on. Basically, there's a lot of interesting stuff from the old days, but it would be better to actually work them in to articles where the content serves a clear purpose (and in this case is sugarcoated or downplayed). --Alex Tylger 00:08, 4 March 2011 (GMT)
That was not just any mail exchange, it was the Empire's mailinglist, you could say this WAS the game back then. :) I see your point, but it is exactly the dilemma reflected in the Community Portal Talk page about changing history. I cut out the mail header at first, but realized this would destroy valuable information, namely that this was send over the most official channel that existed at that time and the date, making the whole thing more or less useless to other contributers. What good is a document without a date? Aside of this, I lack time to do a better editing right now, but wanted to make it available anyway, but I would welcome a better solution to the IC/OOC dilemma myself. I am convinced that we need a repository for source material and that working the content into an article is no substitute for it, the "Historical Document" category is an attempt to manage this (as we discussed on said talk page), but I am not sure it really is the best possible solution.--Dreighton 00:33, 4 March 2011 (GMT)
