Timeline/History substitution

Hey, I thought you've never said or implied that someone should substitute your version of the history for the official one without Veynom's say so and yet you went and did just that. Or did Veynom ask you to do that? --Xanyarr Chyakk 19:11, 18 May 2011 (GMT)

Veynom liked it. Orphaea Imperium 23:24, 18 May 2011 (GMT)
Does it mean it's official now and will be replacing http://www.swcombine.com/rules/?Timeline ? --Xanyarr Chyakk 14:49, 19 May 2011 (GMT)
Which article is this all about?--Dreighton 20:20, 19 May 2011 (GMT)
It's about History of the Galaxy, which after some discussion was split from Timeline. There have been previous 'unauthorized' attempts to replace the official timeline from the SWC website (http://www.swcombine.com/rules/?Timeline) with Orphaeas version (User:Orphaea_Imperium/History) and now I'm trying to figure out whether the latest attempt is authorized. For some discussions on the topic see Talk:Timeline...
Orphaea, I remember Veynom liking some things that were said in the dev meetings dinner, but don't see them becoming official or even becoming something other than notions he liked at all... does not mean of course that they aren't or are not being worked on, just that I expect when something like that becomes official there's usually a SIM news or some official source making an announcement. --Xanyarr Chyakk 06:39, 20 May 2011 (GMT)

Yes, that story can replace the current one. See it as an evolution which will not contradict the old one anyway. For the swc pag,e I would like to have the same article but with links to the holocron. I will send you the "page" with one example so that you can do it. Veynom 18:06, 20 May 2011 (GMT)

Could we possibly just replace the rules page link with a redirect to the History of the Galaxy page? Save the effort of maintaining two duplicate copies of the same thing. Orphaea Imperium 20:43, 20 May 2011 (GMT)
If that Holocron page will not be (semi-)protected it will be open to Vandalism, and we've already had our first vandal trying to replace main page with gibberish, and several potential bots registered which could be activated at any moment. --Xanyarr Chyakk 15:44, 23 May 2011 (GMT)
Could we look at hacking the database or making a plugin that links Holocron (and potentially Guide) accounts with character accounts? That way no bots could register and any vandals would have to first sign up for the game. Orphaea Imperium 23:25, 24 May 2011 (GMT)
This is really something complicated.Veynom 14:29, 25 May 2011 (GMT)
A round about way of dealing with that kind of vandalism would be to create an extra usergroup and allow only that group to edit pages. That would mean of course that somebody would need to move confirmed players into that extra usergroup. --Xanyarr Chyakk 18:00, 25 May 2011 (GMT)

Category sorting

If you're making an effort to sort categories chronologically, why not do it properly? Why change the one I did right i.e. 7 being before 10 or 11 to it coming after 10 or 11... Unless you can give some reason that eludes me at the moment, I'm going to change it back and change other categories accordingly.
I am also considering moving all such categories into yet another subcategory in order to have a better overview over all subcategories. I was think of something along the lines Category:Organisations by founding date and Category:Organisations by dissolution date, though I'm still looking for a better term, perhaps you have a better suggestion... --Xanyarr Chyakk 15:44, 23 May 2011 (GMT)

Categories of categories are the path to madness. Those categories sound better suited as generic lists. It's not like we're likely to be adding/removing to them more frequently than yearly (to add the new 'added/dissolved in year X' category). Orphaea Imperium 21:24, 23 May 2011 (GMT)
Categories of categories is a perfectly good way of organizing things. And maybe it's just the German in me, but I prefer organized madness to just madness. --Xanyarr Chyakk 18:00, 25 May 2011 (GMT)
