| Jack Starways was born on the planet of Alderaan. He was the firstborn child of Frankh Starways, who only wanted the best for his son. Yet, he never knew his mother, which has always been something that bothered him. His father was a retired trader, who only had just enough credits to provide food and shelter for Jack and himself. They were only able to keep their head above the water for so long. When Jack became eleven, he started working for a local farm in order to help his dad with paying the bills for their small residence.

| Jack's fourteenth anniversary was a key turning point in his life. After a barfight, his father was brought to the hospital and Jack was notified only hours later that he wasn't going to make it. As Jack hurried to the medical quarters of the large building, he caught a glimpse of a young female Alderaanian crying in a waiting room. He decided not to pay any attention to her, as he had his own problems right now. After a brief wait period at the booth, he got informed of his father's sudden decease. Jack became silent, his eyes filling with tears as he came to realise he had nothing and nobody left. The doctor tried to say something to him, but Jack didn't want to listen, running out of the hospital instead. While he was sitting on the same bench he used to do with his father in the local park, the same doctor from the hospital came to him after a long search. He tried to calm Jack, eventually succeeding, and told him his father asked the man to give his endownment to his son, Jack.
