The Hapan Battle Dragons are the primary capital ships of the Hapan Navy, and when actually seen by non-Hapans, are supposed to be supported by Hapan Nova-class cruisers. Granted the source of this information usually comes from less than reputable individuals, usually smugglers who have attempted to enter Hapan space. The Hapan Fleet Battle Dragons are rumored to each be sponsored by one of the Consortium's worlds. The Hapan Battle Dragons are double saucer-shaped starships about 500 metres in diameter with a central core connected by sixteen rotation support struts. They are heavily armed with over one hundred gun emplacements and consist of two saucers joined by the central core. Weapon turrets are mounted along the edge of the top disk, set on a type of rapidly rotating link that encircles the upper platform. As each cannon fires, it rotates along the saucer rim, and the next cannon in line swings into place, fully charged and ready to fire. This configuration proved to be superior to a standard weapons battery design due to the speed at which the guns circled the saucer. While each individual cannon still spends about 90 percent of its combat time idle while it charges its capacitors, no gun is ever charged and idle, wasting time waiting for a clear shot. The net result was a sustained barrage of cannon fire directed at a single target. This is a considerable improvement over conventional capital ship design, since the rotating rim design assures that all weapons will be able to fire on the target, as opposed to fixed emplacements, where only the weapons with a line-of-sight to the target can ever fire. In addition to the rotating weapon emplacements, Battle Dragons were armed with ten proton torpedo tubes, tractor beam projectors, and three dorsal and three ventral mounted heavy ion cannon batteries.
