Minnisiat

Minnisiat is a Trade Language that serves as a regional lingua franca throughout the territories surrounding the frontiers of the Chiss Ascendancy. It is primarily used to facilitate communication between the Chiss and the numerous independent peoples, merchants, travellers, and political entities found along the borders of Chiss-controlled space.

The language is particularly valuable in regions where knowledge of Cheunh or Galactic Basic is uncommon. Merchants and officials use Minnisiat to negotiate commercial agreements, arrange the movement of cargo, exchange navigational information, and establish terms for passage through local territory. Explorers, scouts, diplomats, and military personnel may also possess a functional understanding of the language when operating beyond the established boundaries of the Ascendancy.

Alongside Sy Bisti, Minnisiat provides the Chiss with a practical means of communicating with neighbouring societies without requiring outsiders to learn Cheunh. Its use allows the Chiss to conduct trade and diplomacy while maintaining a degree of linguistic separation between their internal affairs and their dealings with foreign powers.

The prevalence of Minnisiat varies between regions, with some frontier communities employing it as their primary language of interspecies commerce and others using it only during contact with Chiss traders or officials. Despite the growing availability of translation technology, knowledge of Minnisiat remains valuable throughout the frontier, where translation droids and established Galactic Basic-speaking institutions are not always readily available.
