The truth couldnt be far off if one would look at Plaguerius Plant, whose spores can infect other plant-life during bad seasons, infect them and kill them, raising a new Plaguerius Plant from the dead husk. With enough exposure they can also infect animal life, and do the same, turning all organic compounds to viable nutrients for the Plaguerius Plant offspring.

There are millions or even billions of different fungal species living on Yavin IV, who are able to coexist together. Occasional biologists bring back samples, to test them and experiment on them, and sometimes they have been able to discover such a good symbiosis between different fungal species that the group of fungus can survive even on Tattoine desert just by being planted together with the right fungus that cooperates. This is one such blend that consists of 100 different fungus who have created their own biome, or a colony.
