The comet called Resh 9376 beats a lonely path through the Outer Rim, completing an elliptical orbit once every seven thousand two hundred forty-one years. This oblong rock of ice, granite, gypsum, and several other ores measures approximately thirty kilometers long by ten wide until recently housed a clandestine operations base for several criminal organisations including Epsis and Sable Dawn, under the banner of the Anjiliac clan of the Hutts. This clandestine base, named Point Nadir, was a secret known only to a few, who either paid for the information, were invited by one of the criminal gangs, or were brought to the base under duress. This last category of sentients never survived to betray the location. All this changed, however, in the last two years BCGT, as both the Hutts and their associates abandoned the base for unknown reasons. The extensive network of tunnels, hidden vaults, secret pleasure chambers, and clandestine meeting rooms has been taken over by a hodge-podge of sentient beings from all walks of life who share only the fact that they were desperate enough, or crazy enough to come to a place with such a sordid, haunted past.
Resh 9376 was discovered approximately twenty-five millennia BCGT and was mapped out by an automated Corellian survey vessel several millennia later. It became the home for noted pirate Salovan Fische, whose ghost is said to haunt the comet after he was marooned there by his mutinying crew. His death was one of the earliest recorded on the comet, but it is only one in a long litany of those whose lives came to an end on this wretched, frozen rock flying through space. No one is quite sure how many people died over the millennia, in chains or under the lash in narrow, ice-filled tunnels or metaled torture chambers. A fragment of a record from a visiting Force user, dated to the second-century BCGT spoke of many unquiet spirits and his inability to get a night’s peaceful sleep due to the screams he could hear in his head.
Those fortunate or unfortunate enough to visit Resh 9376 will find that it does hold an atmosphere, albeit a thin one, due to the many ancient and much-repaired atmospheric generators and energy domes that hold the air in. The asteroid is honeycombed with numerous tunnels and hidden hideaways, many of which remain to be explored. While most of the Hutt holdings were cleaned out when they abandoned the comet, there are any number of rumors concerning hidden hoards of treasure to be found by the daring or the desperate. Only time will tell if they are true.
