Sortumse Asteroid is home to Sortumse Technical University (SorTech). In many ways the complete opposite of its bitter in-system rival, Sirtaeras University of Sevarcos, SorTech is focused on applied research in the sciences and technology fields. SorTech is home to a mining school, a chemical engineering program, a military research program, and a computer science program. The school is also known for its sports, and the Sortumse Corsairs play in the stadium on western campus. A distinguishing feature of SorTech is the active meleenium mine on campus, and all building construction is required to contain a certain amount of the meleenium from this mine. The students affectionately refer to the meleenium as "Sortumse Stone." The campus is known for being quite clinical by comparison to SUS's lush greenery.
