Requests for admins

I'd like to request that several extensions are installed:

Several other extensions that came up on #swc-holocron:

<Xanyarr> http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:EasyTimeline - could be useful as well with all that historic research going on ;)
<@Veynom> and another one I want as well: rating http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:Rating
I think http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:Rating is a bit over the top and will disrupt the flow of any article if http://dev.openbig.net/index.php/Dev.openbig.net:Ratings is anything to go by (comments especially can be abused and would need policing)...
I would prefer - http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:AjaxRatingScript / http://masugadesign.com/the-lab/scripts/unobtrusive-ajax-star-rating-bar/ (some installation help is offered @ http://www.leerwiki.nl/How_to_get_rating_script_work and http://www.leerwiki.nl/How_to_port_Unobtrusive_AJAX_Star_Rating_Bar_to_MediaWiki).
Nothing personal Vey... it just looks much better and would require little to no maintenance... ;) --Xanyarr Chyakk 10:53, 3 April 2011 (GMT)
A reference/citation extension would be very helpful. -- Rupert Havok 22:56, 3 April 2011 (GMT)
Another one I'll need: http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:ToFeed Horthon Gorthy 04:05, 14 April 2011 (GMT)
http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:DataTransclusion would also be a good Idea, so we can use data directly from the database --Abyhsen Squeegor 14:06, 7 November 2011 (GMT)

internal wiki name & namespace

I think the two cola (or colons if you will) before the internal wiki name (and after it) {{NS:4}} as defined by $wgMetaNamespace in one of the PHP files cause some issues. For example when you edit a page look just beneath the edit box, you have there "Please note that all contributions to" and then abruptly new line as if tag :: was used to indent a paragraph twice. Same thing in the third line where it not only breaks a line to start new paragraph, but also breaks a link to copyrights page...
Could we remove the cola, or replace them with something else? --Xanyarr Chyakk 10:53, 3 April 2011 (GMT)

actually why don't we just make it simply Holocron, thus making all http://holocron.swcombine.com/index.php?title=Special%3APrefixIndex&prefix=Holocron&namespace=0 fall into the usual/default namespace of a wiki?
and since we're already talking about namespaces, could we add GNS as a namespace, for all the GNS articles that have been imported lately, and will continue to be imported... --Xanyarr Chyakk 11:57, 3 April 2011 (GMT)

Races

Why don't we put all Race information's into the category for the race and redirect from the race pages to the categories ? --Abyhsen Squeegor 10:53, 7 November 2011 (GMT)

What about linking all Rules page about ships, races, items... to the corresponding Holocron page (if it exist) for additional information ? It could be really easy to do code wise (1-2 lines of code). Would yo ulike this ? Veynom 17:27, 6 February 2012 (GMT)
Yes, we would :P Jake Azzameen 18:34, 6 February 2012 (GMT)
I second that! :P Also, as suggested before, possibly add a link to each faction page!? :) --Qatar Shendo 19:21, 6 February 2012 (GMT)
I third that! Would be a real great addition! --Abyhsen Squeegor 23:16, 6 February 2012 (GMT)
Ok then propose me a nice wording or idea about how you want to see the link. Should it be an icon, a picture link, some text like link "Holocron::YT-1300" ... where to put it exactly, both on the rules page showing the detailed specs of entities and ont he faction page. :) Veynom 08:20, 7 February 2012 (GMT)
I'm for an icon/picture kind of thing, that will probably get more people's attention. Does the Holocron have an icon/something similar? If not it would be awesome if someone could design something like that, that catches the flair of an archive (think Jedi Archives) you connect to for Information and the such. I suppose something like "For more in-depth Information you can proceed to the Holocron page of this Article: link". --Qatar Shendo 20:44, 7 February 2012 (GMT)
I like the proposed text of Qatar, we could add that at the bottom of each page and have an icon linking to the holocron right next to the name of the planet, vehicle ... --Abyhsen Squeegor 17:58, 8 February 2012 (GMT)
I think we need to have a standard naming format for pages linked to the Rules so that the linking can be done more seamlessly (ex: some sectors, systems, planets and/or races share the same name). We can make use of redirects to connect the standard naming format with one more appropriate for the Holocron. --Raith Starlight 01:22, 10 February 2012 (GMT)
Then it means many holocron pages will need to be renamed. Examples: Coruscant ==> planet/Coruscant or system/Coruscant. Also, Holocron pages will need the same name as the SWC Rules entity. Otherwise, i simply link to the entity name and we will have ambiguous names. Opinions Veynom 21:48, 10 February 2012 (GMT) ?
Would it be possibly to just link it to "Coruscant" instead for example without the "planet/"? If that could work we should have disambiguation pages in place anyways (although we don't for many cases, but I feel it's easier adding them then changing all names), and I think ending up on a disambiguation page wouldn't be too much of a hassle would it? - If that won't work or people think it's not good enough I suppose having the Rules as the naming standards instead wouldn't be bad either as we need some naming standards anyways. --Qatar Shendo 22:51, 10 February 2012 (GMT)
It's not necessary to rename everything as that is the whole point of the redirect on a Wiki (see Special:ListRedirects). On the Holocron end, I kind of see the redirects for Coruscant Planet, System and Sector going as follows - 'Planet/Coruscant' -> 'Coruscant (Planet)', 'System/Coruscant' -> 'Coruscant (System)' and 'Sector/Coruscant' -> 'Coruscant (Sector)'. The redirects can alternatively go the other direction if a naming standard needs to be enforced with Rules-related Holocron articles. Is it possible to create a special namespace for the Rules-related articles like the 'Template', 'Special' and 'Category'? --Raith Starlight 00:51, 11 February 2012 (GMT)
Redirects are fine, but creating them for EVERY planet/system seems like a lot of work that could be used on a lot of better stuff instead. I know they don't take much work, but fixing the references and other minor stuff does more for the holocron and is just as quick. Hence my suggestion of directing to the disambig pages that should be/are in place so the work wouldn't be JUST for the sake of making the link from the rules work. Also a special namespace wouldn't make sense for that? Unless I misunderstood you, but the Articles like Coruscant and the such HAVE to stay in the main namespace or that would kinda defeat the purpose of an "Article" namespace? If you meant to create a namespace for rules of the holocron, "Holocron: " should be used for those. --Qatar Shendo 21:11, 16 February 2012 (GMT)

Races link on rules pages is done and working - http://dev.swcombine.com/rules/?Races Gav 21:22, 20 November 2012 (GMT)

Nice! :D --Dreighton 17:04, 9 December 2012 (GMT)

Replacing the word "banner"

Perhaps we could use a more IC-appropriate term for "Banner" in Holocron articles? Perhaps the term "Holographic" instead? Does anyone have suggestions to replace the current OOC "banner" term? Thoughts? -- Rupert Havok 22:22, 11 February 2012 (GMT)

How about "Holobar" ? -- Abyhsen Squeegor 05:52, 13 February 2012 (GMT)

Different Ship Templates

We need to decide on which one to use, as Template:Infobox ship, Template:Starfighter-Current and Template:Freighter-Current are all basically the same. Either we make all the Ship pages use the Infobox Ship or we create one for each ship-class although I don't see much sense in that unless the templates are going to be fundamentally different. Any input? --Qatar Shendo 13:40, 16 February 2012 (GMT)

I think it's better to use the Template:Infobox ship as there's not much difference in between Fighter/Freighter and Cap Ships -- Abyhsen Squeegor 14:39, 16 February 2012 (GMT)
I agree. Template:Infobox ship seems best. It's name is also more standardized. -- Rupert Havok 00:03, 17 February 2012 (GMT)
