The Arcturus Academy was founded in Year -128 as an institute of learning open to citizens of the Hapes Consortium. The Academy was reorganized in Year 22, and now serves as an institute of learning open to all citizens of the galaxy regardless of race, creed, or rank. The Arcturus Academy is formally known as the Arcturus Institute of Academic Research and Preservation. The Academy has a staunch belief that information should be free and accessible to all sentients, and to that end engages its Professors, Associate Scholars, and even Outsiders in the procurement and research of knowledge to add to the ever expanding Academy Library. As of Year 22 the Arcturus Academy presently lacks a permanent site, and its stores of knowledge and facilities of education are presently held aboard a series of Museum and Praxeum ships which traverse the galaxy.
History
Recent History
The Academy was hosted aboard a station built on the 7th Lagrange Point of the Arabanth System and served as a private institute for its duration. In Year 21 the future of the Academy was left in question when, following a research experiment by a student gone wrong, the Arcturus Station was suddenly destroyed. In Year 22 the Academy found salvation when its remnants were merged with the Reliquary Assets of the Vir`uan Family into one singular institute of learning, with former Arcturus Graduate Sia Vir`uan serving as the organization's new Chancellor.
Organization
Chancellorship
The Chancellor serves as the itinerant head of the Academy, and is responsible for the handling of student affairs, awarding of diplomas, and the dispensation of research grants. Prior to the Academy's merger with the Vir`uan Family the Chancellorship was selected by the Board of Governors. This practice came to an end in Year 22 when the Academy became a private institute of the Vir`uan, with Sia appointed as its Chancellor.
Professors
The Professors of the Academy are responsible for the education of new students within their designated fields of study. Each Professor is entitled to an annual research grant based upon yearly contribution to the Libraries. Studies of the Professorship of Arcturus ranges from xenoarchaeology to shipwrights, and everything imaginable in between. Most classes at the Academy have a focus on the scientific and esoteric nature.
Associate Professors & Scholars
Associate Professors and Scholars do not actively work for the Academy, but do at times contribute to the growth of knowledge within the Arcturus Libraries, and assist with the education of students. These individuals will often hold Honorary Degrees from the Academy.
