The Arcturus Academy was founded in Year -128 as an institute of learning open to citizens of the Hapes Consortium. The Academy was reorganized in Year 22, and now serves as an institute of learning open to all citizens of the galaxy regardless of race, creed, or rank. The Arcturus Academy is formally known as the Arcturus Institute of Academic Research and Preservation. The Academy has a staunch belief that information should be free and accessible to all sentients, and to that end engages its Professors, Associate Scholars, and even Outsiders in the procurement and research of knowledge to add to the ever expanding Academy Library. As of Year 22 the Arcturus Academy presently lacks a permanent site, and its stores of knowledge and facilities of education are presently held aboard a series of Museum and Praxeum ships which traverse the galaxy.

History

Recent History

The Academy was hosted aboard a station built on the 7th Lagrange Point of the Arabanth System and served as a private institute for its duration. In Year 21 the future of the Academy was left in question when, following a research experiment by a student gone wrong, the Arcturus Station was suddenly destroyed. In Year 22 the Academy found salvation when its remnants were merged with the Reliquary Assets of the Vir`uan Family into one singular institute of learning, with former Arcturus Graduate Sia Vir`uan serving as the organization's new Chancellor.

Organization

Chancellorship

The Chancellor serves as the itinerant head of the Academy, and is responsible for the handling of student affairs, awarding of diplomas, and the dispensation of research grants. Prior to the Academy's merger with the Vir`uan Family the Chancellorship was selected by the Board of Governors. This practice came to an end in Year 22 when the Academy became a private institute of the Vir`uan, with Sia appointed as its Chancellor.

Professors

The Professors of the Academy are responsible for the education of new students within their designated fields of study. Each Professor is entitled to an annual research grant based upon yearly contribution to the Libraries. Studies of the Professorship of Arcturus ranges from xenoarchaeology to shipwrights, and everything imaginable in between. Most classes at the Academy have a focus on the scientific and esoteric nature.

Associate Professors & Scholars

Associate Professors and Scholars do not actively work for the Academy, but do at times contribute to the growth of knowledge within the Arcturus Libraries, and assist with the education of students. These individuals will often hold Honorary Degrees from the Academy.

Locations

The Academy holds public locations with which students and patrons can peruse its works, study various artifacts, and conduct personal research. All Academy locations are available to public egress unless otherwise stated.

Arcturus Station

As of Year 23, plans for Arcturus Station are in development with its established location presently being planned out by Academy officials as it is considered critical that it is established in a neutrally public area. Arcturus station will serve as the headquarters of the organization once established, with most Academy Classes being conducted here. The Central Archives, and a small museum will also be established onboard the station.

Reliquary Museum

The Reliquary Museum is the Academy's forefront facility and serves as a temporary headquarters until the completion of Arcturus Station. The Reliquary Museum is hosted aboard the Legatum Sanguinis Gloriae, itself a museum piece. The Museum maintains a modular design with entire galleries being capable of being swapped out based on the planned galactic tour with only the Water Gardens, and Blood Throne Gallery being considered as permanent fixtures. As a general the Reliquary Museum tends to features a variety of topics, from all eras given its mobile nature rather than being fixated on one particular field of study - such as “The Luz Museum Of Galactic History”. This allows the museum to provide insights into art, literature, history, culture, war, the force, and more.

The Luz Museum of Galactic History

Located on the planet Skeebo III in the Skeebo System, and donated to the Arcturus Academy by Paul Luz on Day 232, of Year 23. The museum was officially dedicated as the "The Luz Museum of Galactic History" as of Day 233. Museum inventory is at present being planned, and the facility is anticipated to open no later than mid Year 24. Initial planning intends to lay out four wings broken down into the Pre-Republic Era, Old Republic Era, Late Republic Era, & Post Republic Era. At this time the Academy is contemplating the inclusion of a small lab and study wing, which will serve as a work station and center of learning for Academy Scholars exploring and operating in this region of space.

The Library

The Academy maintains a set of libraries concurrently with each of its archives. These range from small local libraries with less than a handful of works, to the primary library housed in the Central Archive that houses copies of all of the Academies works. Works within the Library are varied, with the intent of new works being published by the scholars of the Academy, or added from alternate sources.
