Biography
Early life (4 CGT - 25 CGT)
Born in 4 CGT on the Outer Rim planet of Cathar, Kryss was born into a litter of five that belonged to the Zaar clan, a venerable and respected lineage of warriors descended from what the Cathar people considered to be an aristocratic bloodline. According to the Zaar family stories and legends, their clan was established by a Cathar prince who had lived during the age of the Old Republic, after he had conquered neighbouring clans on his homeworld and assimilated their members into his own clan. His descendants continued his legacy and became fierce and proud warriors that had built the family's fortune through spoils of war claimed over the generations that followed, as they zealously pursued honour and glory in the wars and battles that raged across the galaxy throughout history. To this day, or perhaps especially during these turbulent times, members of clan Zaar can be found serving within local militaries, mercenary companies across the galaxy, or as private security forces for wealthy individuals or aristocratic families from the Outer and Mid Rims.
As is common among the Cathar, Kryss was born into a litter of five, with three sisters and one brother. They were the children of the warrior couple Zahrani Zaar and her partner Jordh Kroll, with the former being the daughter of the Zaar clan head of that time. As was tradition within the clan, the five siblings started their combat training early, their bodies being honed from a young age to become strong and fit, and prepared for a life dedicated to the pursuit of glory and honour in combat. This mentality was also what they were drilled with from infancy, that there was no higher purpose than to perfect oneself - both physically and mentally - through strife and the pursuit of conflict. It was the inability to conform to that family ideal that made Kryss the outlier from among his siblings, but also within his extended family. While he was forced to hone his body and mind to become a warrior, he was an explorer and scholar at heart, and preferred to discuss the histories of his people with the Cathar elders, or read about and study science and the wider galaxy. While this was begrudgingly tolerated as simple childhood quirks when he was younger, the older Kryss became the less lenient his kin became to what they perceived as his errant ways.
Kryss’ teenage and adolescent years were marked by the rising tensions between him and his family. Able to formulate his own opinions and thoughts now, he regularly questioned the traditions and customs he was subjected to openly and in conversation with other clan members. This quickly earned him the reputation as the black sheep among his kin, and eventually also invoked the ire among the more zealous members of his family. As the tensions rose, Kryss no longer questioned the ways of his clan, but openly challenged them, believing there to be different ways to obtain honour and glory than merely slaughter and conflict. He yearned to be free to pursue his own path, to be able to freely study and learn, to expand his mind academically instead of merely honing his body as a killing machine. Yet, the more he pushed for change within his clan, the more backlash and ire he received in return.
At the start of 25 CGT, the reigning clan head at that time had passed away due to old age. As a result, his four remaining children - among them Kryss’ mother Zahrani - had to duel each other until one claimed victory over the others. While it was not meant to be a battle to the death as such would weaken the strength of the clan, the fight was gruelling and harsh, as sibling fought sibling over their birthright. In the end, Zahrani Zaar proved to be the fiercest warrior from among her brothers and sisters, claiming her victory. Bent on ending her son's defiance, she openly called him out during one of the clan gatherings shortly after her ascension to clan head. In front of all his kin, she faced him with an ultimatum; he would either cease his senseless antics and become the warrior everyone expected him to be, or he would be no son of hers nor welcome within the halls of their clan. What started out as a conflict of words, quickly descended into violence as Zahrani challenged her son to a duel. While initially refusing to fight, the circumstances forced him to draw his weapons and do battle with his own mother. While Kryss was not an incompetent fighter, he was no match for his mother. Yet, even beaten up, bruised and bloodied, the young Cathar refused to change his ways. Thus, at the age of twenty-one, Kryss Zaar was forced to part ways with his ancestral home and his kin. No longer feeling any ties to the planet Cathar, he boarded his YT-2000 that he had acquired a couple of years prior and ventured into the galaxy to build a new life for himself.
Appearance
A Cathar in his early twenties of average height for a male of his species, Kryss has a slim build with clear muscular definition but not overly so. Like all Cathar, his body is covered beneath a coat of fur. As is common among the members of the Zaar clan, Kryss has varying tones of light and dark golden hairs that make up his coat of fur, with no stripes being visible on his face or other parts of his body. His feline facial features are proportional and defined, giving him what most humanoids would consider a physically appealing appearance. While his eyes are of an icy blue colour, they radiate with warmth and inner charisma. His golden blonde mane is of a short to medium length with a wavy flow in it, styled to resemble a humanoid half-long hairstyle. He keeps the fur on his lower face somewhat grown out to resemble a beard.
In terms of attire, Kryss wears clothing commonly worn across all corners of the galaxy, which allows him to fit in easily with the rest of galactic society in terms of fashion. As such, he rarely incorporates traditional Cathar vestments into his wardrobe, although the troubled past between him and his clan also likely contributes to the fact he feels no need to don what his people would consider traditional garments. Instead, he can often be seen wearing leather jackets and long coats, shirts both buttoned and regular fashioned from fine silks, as well as form-fitting formal wear when the occasion and setting demand it. He rarely if ever wears any form of jewellery, and has no other markings or tattoos on his body.
