The LST is a throwback to another area of sea borne combat perhaps. She is designed to carry a full company including command staff into a theater of battle and support them with her medium blasters. She does this job well and anyone underestimating the LST is in for a surprise. It's just the days of ocean going battles is long past us save for a few water worlds like Dac.
She is one of the largest surface vessels still in production giving her access to rivers and oceans.
Alternative Use
The LST has recently been employed as mobile prisons, enabling them to hold nearly twice as many prisoners as the standard prisons, but remaining mobile to keep those so imprisoned from escaping easily.
Future Development
It is rumored Aratech engineers are attempting to create a version that can deliver ground vehicles to the combat scene as well as infantry. How many years we are from that is unknown but if developed could be a large surprise in future engagements upon such worlds.
