Malicar V is a breathtaking world, with the Xizer supervolcano burning brightly, giving the planet a massive red scar seen from orbit. Despite having a breathable atmosphere, Malicar V is incapable of supporting more than marginal amounts of life. The cold is incessant and the only life to truly thrive in the climate is a species of marsupials that run rampant over the hardened lava flows near the edge of the Xizer supervolcano. A scientific outpost was established in the southern hemisphere sometime in the last decade to study the creatures; however strangers will find no assistance there. System authorities based on Malicar Prime have declared the entire planet a protected reserve and the scientists are authorized to repel visitors with force if necessary.
During the early years, after the discovery of the unique species, raids by poachers became common. The Malicar system's authorities insisted sometime in the past few years that Black Sun install an automated defense system; due to this, the planet is significantly more heavily armed than some civilized worlds and has been a key factor in the reduction of crime on the planet. The decrease in raids and increase in overall security resulted in a small boost to scientific expeditions of the southern hemisphere where the creatures are most common.
