During the First Galactic Civil War, Republic Mobile Surgical Unit 1 or RMSU-1 (pronounced rimsoo one) was established along with the other RMSU units of the Grand Army early in the second year of the war. It was recognized fairly early on by military commanders that in order to keep battlefield causalities low, troops in service to the republic would need to receive medical attention in a timely manner. To achieve this goal, the various RMSUs were established with the intent of operating near active front lines to receive injured Republic personnel within the "Golden Hour" ultimately leading to a low mortality rate in front line troopers. In many instances most Troopers are able to return to active duty after a short respite at the RMSU, while those with more serious injuries unable to be attended to in the field are able to be stabilized and ultimately transported to more distant, safe, and permanent medical installations.
RMSU-1 has a standard operational detail of ten medical officers, twelve nursing officers, ninety commissioned troops of assorted medical and non medical specialties and a standard capacity to deal with an average of six hundred patients per day.
The modern iteration of RMSU-1 is often referred to lovingly as RASH-1 due to how often it is left undermanned and undersupplied due to the nature of poor logistics on besieged worlds.

FGCW Service History
Year -24 Formation - The Trial on Dolomar
The 1st Unit achieved Grand Army history as the first of the 27 RMSUs to go online, under the auspices of Jedi Commander Kawix Nadine, a renown Jedi Healer. The unit was initially deployed at Ryloth in a shipborne capacity providing relief to injured Clone and Civilian personnel alike aboard the RAS Salvation. When plans for the Assault on Dolomar were finalized the 1st Unit found itself redeployed near the front lines of a vicious assault.
The Af'El Campaign
Reformation
In Year 23, the 618th Search and Rescue unit officially reformed the RMSU-1 under its command structure in order to ensure the facilitation of medical services to clones fighting across the galaxy. The 618th retained the RMSU acronym under advisement of Jedi Colonel Paul Luz, whom declared "The Republic Will Rise Again!" The restored RMSU found itself in a state of lacking personnel in its early days, with Clone Veteran Arn Starfall being the units only surgeon. It is the goal of Commanding Officer Sia Vir`uan to reach full staffing by the end of Year 23. To this end, additional personnel are being routinely commissioned from the Corps, and civilian support staff recruited.
Unit Structure
Officers & Ranking Medical Staff
Surgeon Arn Starfall is a senior clone whom served during the First Galactic Civil War in the capacity of a medic for the (TBD). Following the wars he abandoned the Empire, retired, and ventured into a further and deeper study of medicine. With the formation of RMSU-1, old Arn was tapped to serve as the unit's first field surgeons. Though he is no longer part of the rank and file, his younger brothers look up to him with deep respect. Arn is known to be very by the book, stern, and a military clone through and through. This often brings the elderly clone into conflict with the civilian doctors serving with RMSU-1.
Personnel
Assets and Materials
While underequipped comparative to its predecessor, the reconstituted RMSU-1 maintains a wide range of assets and materials under its direct command. Though the unit is able to requisition additional supplies from the 618th, it is not uncommon for it to function under unstable logistical reliability.
•2x Sprint-Class Rescue Craft: Utilized to transport stabilized patients to more permanent and safe medical installations, such as hospital ships. Due to their fragile and unarmed nature, Sprints are only deployed when the area around the RMSU is clear and safe for landing. Each Sprint is crewed by a single Clone Pilot, one Clone Medic, one FX-7, and a complement of 45 passengers. The vessel is equipped with supplies to attend to basic triage and care of battlefield wounded who may experience complications on the way to its final destination from the RMSU. Each Sprint is equipped with two bacta tanks at its rear for situations in which patients must be carefully moved and observed.
•Squadron of Republic Gunships: Crewed by a single Clone Pilot, and flown from the front lines transporting critically wounded Clones lacking any form of escort, or proper defense. This is perhaps one of the most dangerous jobs in the RMSU due to the risk of simply being shot out of the sky. The handful of Pilots serving in this capacity are answerable directly to the command structure of the 618th, and at times often fly in a variety of S&R Operations. In Year 23 the Squadron assisted with extinguishing wildfires on Denhui, and subsequently airlifting wounded colonists to Point Storm for medical treatment at RMSU-1, and onboard the Ardent-class Fast Frigate, Nocte Dolorem.
•618th Mobile Medical Operations Command Crawler: This old sandcrawler was repurposed by the 618th to serve as a mobile command center for RMSU-1. While it is not equipped for medical operations, it is capable of housing the various ground vehicles, speeders, and gunships used by RMSU-1, as well as being capable of housing a large quantity of personnel and patients. The capacity of the crawler, combined with its durability make it an excellent choice for bug out scenarios in which the operational zone of the unit must be evacuated. Such examples would include the faltering of the front lines, and rapid approach of enemy combatants. Due to its slow nature, the crawler is painted in the highly recognized white and scarlet colorations and iconography denoting it as a medical transport vehicle. It is also traditionally unarmed. All of this is done with the hope and intent that should hostiles approach faster than the crawler can escape, it will be ultimately left unharmed.
•Medivac Crimson: A KAM utilized for hauling large quantities of wounded from secure battle zones. This vehicle is only utilized to fly through secure air space, or in situations in which a large quantity of wounded need to be rapidly moved while receiving basic triage on the way to RMSU-1. Medivac Crimson is operated by two Clone Pilots, two MD Medical Specialists, and room for ten passengers. Though the medical capabilities of the Emdees is very limited, the knowledge they have combined with the specialized equipment of the KAM are able to keep patients alive while transported to RMSU-1. The vehicle is even able to provide care via four Bacta Tanks in emergency situations.
