Taryn Zaraan is a human male born in Corellia, largely known for his career within the Hapes Consortium. Taryn joined the Royal Hapan Navy as a Crewman and rapidly progressed through the ranks, being given command of the Navy and eventually the entire Royal Hapan Armed Forces as Minister of Defence.

Early life

Taryn Zaraan’s background and origins are largely unknown, in great part due to his reserved personality and the classified nature of his records upon his rise through the Royal Hapan Armed Forces. However, it is known that Taryn was born in Corellia to Cara Zaraan, the last member of a minor Hapan noble house, and an unknown Corellian father. On his mother’s Hapan side, Zaraan appears to be related to family of minor Hapan nobility, thought to be extinct during the Civil War.

A few weeks after his 17th birthday, and following the death of his mother, Taryn purchased a light freighter, the YT-2000 Genesis, leaving Corellia to travel the galaxy. Following several months of exploration and occasional odd jobs, he headed to reconnect with his mother’s past in the Hapes Cluster. Arriving in Lorell, the gateway to the cluster, he contacted a recruiter and was awarded a position in the prestigious Star Home Academy.

Career within the Hapes Consortium

Early career

Despite his seemingly unorthodox background, Zaraan seemed to possess a good theoretical grasp and practical experience in many subjects. He thus graduated with top marks from the Star Home Academy, and chose to start his career within the Consortion with the Royal Hapan Navy. His initial assignments were deep-space recon missions commanding the YT-510 scout ship HRS Takashi and assisting in large logistics operations which resulted in the construction of various Golan II stations. Quickly being recognised as a competent pilot, Zaraan was transferred to a Miy`til combat squadron: Hound Squadron, where a series of successful operations resulted in a rapid sequence of promotions to officer rank. Taryn was then assigned to command Hound Squadron, now based off the Nova-class Battle Cruiser HRS Abyss, and saw intense combat action during the Rifle Worlds Incident - a pirate incursion into Consortium controlled space. In a particularly intense couple of weeks, Hound squadron chalked up a remarkable 146 kills, with 0 losses. In the final stages of the incident, Zaraan was re-assigned to command the Hetrinar Assault Bomber Halberd Squadron. Taryn participated in the final assault on the Bandit flagship, resulting in the elimination of the greater pirate threat.

Rising through the ranks

Several smaller scale combat operations and promotions followed, and Taryn rose to command the HRS Abyss itself. Now in command of a capital ship, Taryn had a much more impactful role in policing the Cluster from foreign threats and continued to do so successfully.

Eventually, he had outgrown commanding a Nova-class ship, and Zaraan was given full command of the Battle Dragon HRS Wolf. During this period, Zaraan oversaw planetary construction and the formation of planetary defence and deep space surveillance networks across the Cluster. While on the Wolf, Zaraan additionally oversaw naval mining operations and hyperlane mapping efforts.

OHR & SHA

Running parallel to his carreer in the Navy, Zaraan was heavily involved in the Office for Hapan Recruitment and the Star Home Academy.

Due to his exceptional educational record in the Academy, and his unique and culturally diverse upbringing, Taryn was assigned to head the Office of Hapan Recruitment. The OHR soon saw a explosion of new recruits, due in large part to a revitalised recruitment campaign implemented by Taryn. Following this successful stint, the reigns of the OHR were passed on to his protégé at the time: Valerian Valkarin Kreuzritter.

Shortly after being assigned to the OHR, Taryn also took up the role of Commadant of the Star Home Academy, with a view to fully revise and reform the educational system in place. During his time as Commandant, Zaraan heavily revised the SHA twice, resulting in a more comprehensive and efficient training program. Zaraan also petitioned for a return to an obligatory military service program for all SHA members. Citing “an increasingly turbulent and unpredictable galaxy”, Zaraan made the case that “(...) the Consortium and all its future leaders would be well served with a personal, hands-on understanding of military matters”. The petition was accepted, and Zaraan set up the means for all graduates of the SHA to undertake a tour of service in a military unit. Following the successful revision of the Academy Zaraan passed the reigns off to the next Commandant.

Command

As his career in the RHN continued, Zaraan was appointed Executive Officer of the Navy under CO Draygo Antares. Zaraan played a key command role in Operation Mayhem, helping lead the Consortium to a resolute victory. Following this, Zaraan assumed full command of the RHN, and was elevated to the position of Deputy Minister of Defence. With his new position as CO of the RHN and Deputy Minister of Defense, Zaraan proposed and oversaw wide spread reforms of the Navy structure. His elevation to a ministerial role also widened his input into areas of governance beyond the Military, as he was frequently involved in policy discussions related to all other aspects within the Consortium.
