Elara Finnall is a Wookiee from the planet Kashyyyk. She was a member of Mandalore for over three years and is considered Dar'manda, or traitor.

Childhood

Elara was born on the planet Kashyyyk, specifically on Mount Arayakyak, which had been overrun by slave traders. She was raised by her mother, Saumya Ahluwalia, because her father had been sold into slavery before her birth. When Elara was young, she was captured due to her rare white fur and seen as a commodity, not a being, instilling a paranoia that every person she met was either trying to acquire her, or judge her. She spent three years in captivity on Kashyyyk, during which she had access to many resources, including the Galactic News Service (GNS) and a variety of books. This wasn't just reading; it was an act of mental escape. The stories of the Mandalorians, who judged one another by deeds (aliit ori'shya tal'din) represented the opposite of her life as a slave, where she was judged solely by her skin. Before being sold to an unknown buyer from her home planet, Elara managed to escape into the deep woods, where she encountered Wookiee rebels. She eventually rose through the ranks of the Wookiee rebel group before successfully escaping on an old 578-R Space Transport at an unknown date.

Way to Mandalore

Elara wanted to find a place where she would feel welcome. The Imperials were not that place, so she applied to join the rebels but was denied entry, reinforcing feelings of being unfit for society. She then applied to Mandalore, which is known for being very welcoming to new space travelers. There, she would begin her adventures, including bounty hunting. They promised a place where her past as a slave wouldn't matter-only her competence. This was not a mercenary choice; it was a desprate attempt to find a family and an identity that could override her trauma. The Mandalorian way of life became her therapy, replacing the chaos of her childhood with clear discipline.

Life as a Mandalorian

Upon arriving in Okyaab, she began her training under Zachill DeSol, the second-in-command at the time. She completed her training with Kaden Wren, achieving the rank of O-1. Afterward, she assisted with scan missions and logistics before returning to Kashyyyk to secure freedom for both herself and her spouse. Upon her return to Mandalore, she ventured into bounty hunting, although she didn't pursue it for long. She later became an Academy teacher, where she helped several students during her tenure. Additionally, she decided to join the clan Evaar’la Wren.

During a playful brawl with Joe Wales, Elara's big toe was severed with a lightsaber, and though there were attempts to force heal it, a limb completely removed cannot be reattached without surgery, which Elara did not have the credits for.

Return to Kashyyyk

After accumulating a considerable amount of credits, Elara returned to Kashyyyk. Upon her arrival, she discovered that both of her parents had passed away. However, she was reunited with a childhood friend, Chandra Laghmani. Elara managed to buy freedom for both herself and Chandra, and together they had a child named Ania Laghmani. Ania inherited her mother’s recessive gene for fur color. Elara then purchased Ania’s freedom as well, but while Ania was raised by Chandra, Elara returned to Mandalore, believing the only way to ensure their freedom was to become a strong, wealthy, and powerful protector. She sacrificed her presence in Ania's life to secure her child's future, a choice steeped in pain and a misguided devotion to the Mandalorian ideal.

Evaar’la Wren

The clan known as Evaar’la Wren was led by Kaden Wren during its existence. Elara joined the clan upon her return to Mandalore. Wren was a prominent Mandalorian clan that included members such as Kaden Wren, Gratuar Rau, and Cassidy Dragonblood. However, the clan disbanded following a conflict between Kaden Wren and Cassidy Dragonblood, who had not yet been officially inducted into the clan. As a result of this altercation, Elara left with the majority of the clan members.

Clan Rau

Gratuar Rau established Clan Rau, Members: Gratuar Rau, Kitsu, and Elara's daughter, Ania Laghmani (previous). Following the chaotic disbandment of Wren, Elara temporarily found solace with Clan Rau, a much smaller but more compassionate group established by Gratuar Rau. Her brief tenure there represented a moment of reflection.

Return to Wren

At Kaden Wren's request, Elara returned to Evaar'la Wren. Wren was not so different from Elara; while her identity was defined by her past as a rare Wookiee slave, his was defined by his role in a devastating internal conflict within Mandalore. She stayed with the clan for about a month, during which Wren made a formal request for the clan to rejoin the main Mandalore organization. When the Mandalorian Council decided against Wren’s request, Elara interpreted the rejection as a profound betrayal—the organization had failed the man who accepted her, proving that Mandalore’s promise of family was a lie, just like the freedom promised by her slavers.

Elara began gathering her belongings, following her mentor into the unknown, believing her loyalty to Wren, the man who had given her a new life, superseded her oath to the organization. Two weeks later, she was expelled from Mandalore for being a traitor. The clan had defected to Dread, a pirate group associated with Zann...

Dread

During Elara’s brief time in Dread, she was instructed to prove herself in battle. However, she learned from an unknown source that this was not the true purpose of her assignment, but by then it was too late for her to prepare. Although she anticipated being deceived by the pirates, she was not ready for the reality of the situation. Elara had originally planned to act as a spy, a desprate attempt to remain a "good person," but after her conversations with Ximaro Jix, she found herself unable to follow through with that plan. Not only did he trick her, he appealed to her deepest vulnerability, arguing that Mandalore was built on lies and that only the ruthless self-reliance of pirates offered true freedom-a concept that resoneted deeply with the former slave. She was eventually captured on an asteroid in space, along with three other members of the Wren, including Kaden Wren. In a moment of desperation, she contacted Daxil Zagrfin, a former academy member she had trained, hoping he could rescue her. However, she later called off the request out of fear that he too would be captured. Her capture wasn't just a military defeat; it was the final, crushing moment where she realized she had failed everyone: Mandalore, her daughter, and herself. She was betrayed, just as she had been in her childhood.

Death

She stayed on the rock for a few days, completely defeated. On Y26 D49, Elara chose to end her own life. To deny her captors the satisfaction of her capture and execution, she spoke her last loyal squad and gave them a final, terrible order: to fire upon her position. Her suicide was the ultimate act of control in a life defined by powerlessness. It ensured she would not be paraded, tortured, or judged by her enemies. The fate of the loyal squad remains unknown, but they are presumed dead, having carried out their last, tragic duty-a final testament to the loyalty Elara desperately sought throughout her life.

Haat'yc vencuyot be Elara Finnall:

During the inactive periods of my military duties in Mandalore, I went back to Kashyyyk. While there, I had a young Wookiee of my own. When I went back to Mandalore as my young child took her father's name. Her name is Ania Laghmani. I taught her some things, but she was mainly raised in wookiee heritage. Her hopes were to become Mandalorian like me someday. Unfortunately, I was not a good role model for her and when she found out I betrayed Mandalore, it was worse. I don't deserve to ask one last thing of this community, but this isn't for me. While Ania will choose her own path, she is a good person, her respect for your community is very high and I hope you can respect her regardless of her family. As I am aware as of now, she is a member of Rau and will remain there, her faction is undetermined as of what I have heard.
