Description
Although its real name is the Forest Moon (Sanctuary Moon), the planet Endor was given a "nickname" as such after the silvery gas giant it orbits. It is located in the Moddell sector. The Moddell sector itself is remote, and few travelers ever venture that far from the main hyperspace routes. Endor is as different as possible to the gas giant from which it is named, with lush green terrain mountainous regions, polar caps and basically every type of terrain.
Although it exists on most, if not all, navigational charts, Endor is not well known. It is removed from main trade routes and the huge gravitational pull of the Endor sun makes it virtually impossible to travel easily through the system. Only the most competent of pilots or those with capital ships equipped with powerful engines can manage. The system requires several complicated hyperspace jumps to navigate it successfully.
Endor itself is habitable with light gravity, an oxygen rich atmosphere, plenty of light, pleasant temperatures and many animals. Many species have developed on Endor however only a few are known especially due to the fact that many live hidden beneath the ground. There are the docile Endoran ponies, vicious boar-wolves, Yuzzum, Teeks, Bordoks, Condor Dragons, Gunlabirds, Blopes, Borras, Marauders, Duloks, Gupins, Humming Peepers, Lantern birds, Ewoks and the Gorax, to name only a few. The Gorax live in the rock highlands of the barren Desert of Salma, beyond the Yawari Cliffs.
The forests are home to the Ewoks and it is where they live, hunt, scavenge, and prosper. Their lives are occasionally put in peril by the Gorax, who tower thirty metres above the Ewoks themselves. The Ewoks eat only on small creatures and vegetation but the Gorax live on both small creatures and the Ewoks. Another unpleasant native of Endor are the massive spiders, bigger than Ewoks, that live in the bottom of a Gorax's cave and scavenge the remains that are left behind.
Like the Wookiees, Ewoks build their villages high in the trees and as another means of defence against the Gorax threat, some villages build floating lake-top villages far from the reaches of the Gorax.
The Arbo Maze, another site on Endor, is aptly named. The trees in the maze are so tightly packed that it would take a skilled native, or a Jedi Knight, to navigate them. Many wanderers who were trapped on Endor by the gravitational pull of the sun have been lost forever in the Arbo Maze. Aside from the various other sites, such as the Dragon's Pelt, located west of the forests, and the Dragon's Spine (at one end of the Dragons Pelt) there is little else to see on Endor. However many things are hidden by the shear volume of trees that limit both travel and sight greatly.
The mantle of the moon consisted largely diorite and feldspar, although Endor was a volcanically active planetoid with several hotspots. [1]
Endor's terrain was largely covered by massive, tightly-knit pine and redwood forests. However, the Forest Moonalso contained vast dry deserts and grassy plains, small oceans, secluded lakes, and mountain ranges. The moon's low axial tilt and regular orbit of its gas giant primary helped ensure a comfortable climate. The Forest Moon was temperate and mild, with polar caps regulating the sea levels. Flora life included cambylictus trees and other large plants.[1]
