Gwen Leor (born Elona 01, Year -2) is a freelance physician, engineer and part-time prospector. A native of Thyferra she graduated from the Thyferra Institute of Medicine with a specialization in pathology at the age of 16. She spent the six months after graduation to provide aid to the citizens that suffered from the plague within the quarantined planet of Derra IV.
History
Origin
Gwen is an artificial construct created with a combination of Thyferran (Mother) and Clawdite (Father) DNA using Kaminoan cloning technology because of the infertile nature of her mother. Specific genetic manipulation was required in order to create a successfully stable clone of both genetic donors with improvements made to increase memory and intelligence. Gwen was grown in a cloning tank on Thyferra and was released by her parents once she reached the physical and mental maturity of a five year old child. Until the age of ten she was tutored by her parents in both basic and practical areas of knowledge including medicine, operation and repair of electronic-based systems and general repair of mechanical creations. An engineered prodigy she qualified to attend the Thyferra Institute of Medicine at the age of eleven and earned her Doctorate of Medicine degree in only five years at the age of sixteen.
Memories
The cool, viscous touch of growth nutrients on my skin. The muted sounds coming from distorted, unknown forms. Fear as the nutrients flowed out and replaced by bright, stinging pain as light flooded the tank when it opened. A warm hand and the faint, sweet aroma of spices.
Those are my first memories...barely more than a few flashes and sensations. I was five years old at the time and was the first time I met my parents.
The sun shone bright above, creating flickers of light and shadow on my face as the cool wind gently blew through the leaves of the gloan trees. Sweating due the heat while running through the garden behind our home; playing hide-and-seek with friends, which we did from time to time. Then pain...I began screaming and crying before losing consciousness. I awoke with my mother cradling me with an open med-kit nearby with tears in her eyes.
I had just turned ten years old. I could only imagine what it was like for her watching me scream in pain, changing colors and her not able to do anything about it. It was the only time I ever saw her cry and it was due to that event that we realized that I inherited a little more than a few genes from my father. Mother was not pleased though we made it work...and father did stay home for awhile to teach me how to control it so that was nice. Never seen my friends again though.
I graduated from the Medical Institute of Thyferra a few weeks after I turned sixteen...which was unusual though I always assumed it was because mother took a few liberties with my genetics when she created me....I am not complaining. I took advantage of the brief moments I knew I would have before I began my career as a physician and left to visit a place my father told me about when I was growing up.
Night fell as I guided the airspeeder toward a little, hidden cover....the stars twinkling and the twin moons of Thyferra gleaming above, slightly hidden by the fluffy, dark-grey clouds that were slowly floating across the sky. I ran toward the ocean with hair rushing behind as warm wind blew and I inhaled the scent of fresh salt air stopping quickly in the shallows where the cool waves played with my toes. I spent that night watching the waves and listening to the echoes as they crashed into the rising bluffs...with me slightly damp from the settling mist...it was peaceful.
Derra IV. When the plague hit hundreds died in the first day with thousands following over the next few months. The "Great Animosity Plague" as it was called did not kill...it drove the infected murderously insane and caused them to attack anyone nearby; friends, family, neighbors even other infected were not exempt. When the call came, asking for those with medical knowledge to help, I decided to go despite my mother's warnings. Just like a mynock to a power cable though what I found on Derra IV was...death.
The sun shone through the cloudless, light blue sky; its light creating unmoving shadows throughout the cityscape. The silent streets lined with half-rotted corpses...the beautiful day mocking the dead. The overwhelming stench of decay unable to reach me through the environment suit, it a barrier between myself and the dead. Desperately hoping their fate would not be mine. The first body, found in the middle of the street; a man in his thirties with a look of terror etched into his cold, frozen face and a blaster hole in his back. He was running away. The woman found in the doorway of what I assume is her home; the automated door constantly opening and closing upon her body showed similar signs as the one before. The last was the worst. Door sealed shut from the outside and upon opening the reveal of two corpses. One a man in his early forties and the other a young girl...my age. My examination showing he perished from dehydration and starvation...and she. Broken. Skull fractured in multiple areas...ribs on the right side shattered and possibly on the left as well with defensive wounds on the forearms caused by a bludgeon of some kind. He was infected. She not. A holo on the floor nearby showing him, her and who I assumed to be her mother. Clearing the tears from my eyes I was hoping that she was dead before the mother sealed the door.
As I survived the next six months on Derra IV while examining the deceased, evacuating the uninfected to safe zones and experiencing each event I came to a realization. Upon Derra IV governments, mercenaries, pirates and others took advantage of the plague to fight and kill each other; treating Derra IV like an arena while the citizens suffered from plague. While they played their war-games and emitted their flowery speeches of victory over their enemies the citizens of Derra IV continued to die in the crossfire. They cared naught for others...only for themselves. A physician on Derra IV once told me that a physician is meant to preserve lives and never take them. He was right. A person should never harm another...they should help them. To avoid violence at all costs...for the moment it begins it will never end and all people will suffer while the innocent die in the crossfire.
Personal Information
Personality
Gwen is generous to a fault, which is something she shares with her parents, and attempts to help anyone regardless of the personal risk involved in order to minimize the suffering of others. For those that take advantage of the generosity of others this may make her seem naive, gullible or foolish. That is the furthest from the truth and is something she takes full advantage of; as it allows her to identify individuals that exploit others for their own gain and discover those who truly need her help.
Gwen is enthusiastic and obsessive with things she enjoys doing. As she has lived a sheltered life with few outside experiences she tends to enjoy scholarly pursuits. This combined with her high intelligence and being able to memorize massive amounts of information has allowed her to become an expert in a variety of areas despite her young age. Lately, Gwen has been focusing on more physical pursuits, such as hiking, hoverboarding and swimming, in her spare time as well as working in more physically demanding jobs.
Those who have known her any amount of time often describe Gwen as out-going and cheerful, enjoying the time spent with others whether it is learning from them, teaching them or just socializing. Though at times she does enjoy being alone, as it allows her to contemplate on the day's events and relax. While Gwen is generally polite she has been known to be brutally honest with others; since in her mind being vague or deceitful has never helped anyone.
The events of her life has shaped Gwen's views regarding sentient beings and the galaxy in general. She has seen what those who seek only power do to obtain it which is why she has chosen a life of non-violence, seeking to help those in need. A pacifist, Gwen never carries a weapon as she believes it would be a violation of her morals and beliefs. For her, the moment she picks up a weapon is the time when there is no other way to resolve the conflict; she fears that she would not be able to pull away from a life of destruction if she was ever forced to actually use a weapon.
Physical Description
Standing at 1.53 meters tall and weighing 53 kilograms, the seventeen year old Gwen, unlike most Thyferrans, is small in stature and could never be considered physically imposing. Gwen is capable of changing her hair and skin color, due to her Clawdite father, though in her natural state she is blonde with a light brown skin tone and green eyes. Her wardrobe consists of various styles of clothing though she tends to prefer simple designs that are comfortable and easy to move around in. However, the majority of her wardrobe comprise of varying shades of white, as well as red and other light colors that do not clash with whichever hair color and skin tone she is currently sporting.

Important Quotes
"Emotion is an obstacle. A great physician creates an emotional barrier between themselves and the patient in order to make objective decisions and focus on doing what is needed to save their life despite the pain being caused. Instead of worrying or second-guessing themselves and putting the patient in far more danger."

"A physician preserves lives...they never take them."

"Quick wit, subtlety and a good alibi keep you alive more often than violence. A blaster should be a last resort...when everything else has failed."
