The Horizon Guard is the elite of the elite unit of the Eternal Empire, a division of the Knights of Zakuul that reports directly to the Eternal Throne. They represent the best units of the empire, serving as the spearhead of the Eternal Legions and the most loyal forces of the Eternal Empire.
To become a Horizon Guard, members of the Eternal Empire, often Knights of Zakuul, must undergo a lengthy and arduous training regimen that not all pass. This rigorous selection process guarantees the loyalty and prowess of Horizon Guard forces. They are equipped with a modified, enhanced version of the Knight of Zakuul armor and pilot the elite space forces of the empire. Always on the front lines, the Horizon Guard is often the first division deployed during operations. They also conduct covert operations and infiltration missions against enemies of the Eternal Empire.[1]
History
Origins
The Horizon Guard traces its origins to the Zann Consortium Defilers, the elite forces of the underworld groups that later joined the Son-Tuul Pride. When the Pride transformed into the Eternal Empire, these Defilers remained and evolved into the Horizon Guard. The Defilers' training methods were preserved and enhanced, forming the foundation of the Horizon Guard's rigorous training program.
The legacy Defilers wore black Defiler armor as part of their history, a tradition they embrace and keep close at heart. However, the modern Horizon Guard utilizes a black version of the Knight of Zakuul armor, representing their evolution while staying true to their legacy. With changing times, the unit has adapted but remains connected to its origins.
Role in the Eternal Empire
The Horizon Guard is led by the High Justice and has participated in both the Shadow Wars and the ongoing Eternal Wars. They were the forces behind the attack on the Inat system against the Krath Empire.[1]
As the spearhead of the Eternal Legions, the Horizon Guard handles internal security fiercely and has the authority to generate lockdowns and perform audits on other units. They are often equipped with the best equipment and ships available to the Eternal Empire.
Secrecy and Operations Security
One of the defining features of the Horizon Guard is their commitment to secrecy. They operate with stealth and discretion, utilizing encrypted communications that ensure operational security (OPSEC) across all legions. Their covert nature allows them to conduct infiltration missions and special operations without detection, making them a formidable force against the enemies of the Eternal Empire. This secrecy extends to their internal operations, with unit compositions and mission details kept confidential even from other branches of the Eternal military.
Equipment and Training
The Horizon Guard is equipped with modified, enhanced Knight of Zakuul armor, featuring a distinctive black design that honors their Defiler heritage while incorporating modern advancements. The armor was designed by Bork Shalas, reflecting the Eternal Empire's commitment to providing its elite forces with the best equipment available. They pilot the elite space forces of the Eternal Empire and are always equipped with the best gear available.
Their training regimen is among the most demanding in the galaxy, building upon the Defiler training methods of the Zann Consortium. Candidates must prove their loyalty, combat prowess, and mental fortitude to join the ranks of the Horizon Guard.
