Jephego "Jey" Veila II (born Naffah Spalyrt) is a female Human from Naboo.
Biography
Early life
Naffah was born in Year 0 to a geneticist named Leena Spalyrt. Having suffered from heart problems during infancy, Naffah's heart was replaced with pulmonodes.
Naffah was adopted by the Veila family of Naboo at a young age, and was renamed Jephego after her adopted great grandmother. Jephego's adoptive father, Cedric Veila, was a former fighter pilot and veteran of the Clone Wars. Having retired from flying after the war ended, Cedric married Coruscanti Nomi Frei in Year -3. The couple adopted Jephego because Nomi was unable to have children.
From an early age, Jephego showed a fondness for tinkering. She would often modify her family's droids, much to her parents' dismay. Her parents sent her to Suyan Adova Memorial Academy, where she met Codru-ji and fellow adoptee Kryna Yev. The two became best friends, with Kryna nicknaming Jephego "Jey". Jey also started running, even participating in and winning several races in Theed.
Tragedy struck in Year 15, when Jey's parents died in a starship crash. Devastated, Jey was left homeless by their deaths. Kryna offered to let Jey stay with her, which Jey gladly accepted. Over the next few years, Jey developed feelings for Kryna, but never acted on them.
In Year 21, Jey left Naboo to find a job as a pilot in the core worlds.
Revelations
Unable to maintain a job as a pilot, Jey switched to bounty hunting in Year 24. She was admittedly not proud of her work, but consoled herself by telling herself that she was doing good by removing criminals from the streets.
After delivering a bounty on Nal Hutta and boarding a shuttle, Jey found herself the target of a bounty under the name "Naffah Spalyrt". Unaware that it was her birth name and believing it to be a case of mistaken identity, Jey attempted to convince a perusing bounty hunter to let her go. However, several other hunters tried to take Jey for themselves, resulting in a fire fight with a security droid which brought the shuttle down in the Huttese wilderness. Jey, along with fellow passengers Lindgart Adjer and Tony Slugger, attempted to return to civilization on foot. Following a collumn of smoke, they eventually ran into a Mandalorian named Ziphu Utall, who was a friend of Jey's biological mother.
Ziphu took the trio to her home and began slicing a bounty puck for information, meanwhile explaining that Leena Spalyrt was rumored to have been working on a project during the Clone War to resurrect extinct animal species, allegedly ordered by Supreme Chancellor Hiram Drayson himself.
Personality and traits
As a youth, Jephego was free-spirited and awkward. She enjoyed taking apart droids to learn how they worked, and was a self-proclaimed expert on computers by the time she was ten. Although she was always curious about her biological parents, she loved her adoptive family greatly. The loss of her parents took its toll on Jey, who was never the same, having become more introverted after their deaths. She found herself unable to confess her love to Kryna out of fear of losing her as she lost her parents.
Jey was fond of dying her hair bright colors. She also had an aversion to shoes, preferring to go barefoot even when running races.
