Vir Calder came across the KX-series Security Droid Kit on the eastern frontiers of Malastare in Year 20.
The droid was a honorary member of the Malastare Rifles, a veterans association connected to, and in fact the most influential member, of the Ternion Corps umbrella veterans organization. Kit had joined the band of mostly Dug group some years ago when they had discovered it half buried in the desert, power cells drained ages ago. Upon some repairs and bringing it back to life, the Dugs had discovered that the droid had previously served with the Malastare Rifles regiment a few years after the Clone Wars, and had served along side of a number of the Dugs' fathers. The Dugs treated the droid not as property, but more so like an equal, for that they respected the droid's recorded memory.
When Calder came upon the droid, he noticed that a number of the droid's components were still in need of replacement. He offered to overhaul the droid without charge, and the droid accepted. When the droid returned to its Dug companions, it told them of the kind stranger that it had came across, and thus beginning Calder's association with the Malastare Rifles, starting the chain of events that led to Calder's eventual leadership appointment of the entire Ternion Corps organization. The Malastare Rifles presented Kit to Calder as a present shortly after the Malastare Rifles followed Calder to the world of Venaari.
Independent and individualistic, Kit continues to refuse Calder's offer to replace its weathered exterior plating. It is often seen wearing a brown cloth around its neck and shoulders in the same style as human frontiersmen in the deserts of Malastare, even though as a droid it had little need for sun protection. In recent days, this droid is most often seen in Calder's company as a bodyguard when Calder supervises desert combat training courses on the world of Vinsoth.
