The Void Spider is a shuttle variant of the popular TX-3, large enough to carry four people along with a fair amount of cargo. It boasts a clear dome-shaped fuselage cover that allows complete viewing of the surrounding area. With directional repulsors located at the end of its landing struts, the Void Spider is capable of rapid deceleration and turning. Using the repulsors, a dexterous pilot can slip the Void Spider onto its side to fit through tight spaces. It is favored for civilian scouting missions since its lack of armament often causes it to be ignored by authorities, and the combination of speed, maneuverability and a sturdy hull allows it to escape mercenaries.
The great advantage of the Void Spider is its relatively few terrain restrictions. Capable of operating over water and land equally well the Void Spider is an ideal shuttle for almost anyone on any pacified world. Her speed, agility and sturdy hull enable her to escape most threats that could destroy her. As such she is commonly used as a scout by civilian corporations as most security forces ignore the presence of the Void Spider.
It is a wonder we don't see them in greater numbers than we already do. Project Void Spider was a project suggested by Ku`Bakai Roche in the later half of Year 12 to help revitalize Aratech sales. The project was cancelled due to lack of factories to build the vehicles in a cost productive manner. Instead Project Bongo Sub put forth by Valek Press was pursued as the company had adequate naval yards to build them.
In the beginning weeks of year 13, Aratech sublet a limited number of Void Spiders to the newly formed Horizon Tactical Armaments. The initial agreement would allow HTA to build 100 of the vehicles for sale.
It is rumored that Aratech is attempting to design an updated version with better sensors and light armament without giving up the Void Spider's existing advantages as a light military scout vehicle. It is not expected to be ready for at least a decade.
As of Year 14 Day 223 Aratech became the sole source of the THX-1138 when Uukaablis Trans-Systems dissolved due to lack of workers.
