Ukutshaya is one of The Cardinal Swords of Tau. The sword was forged by the master Noghri Bladesmith Sekou Tau himself and embodies the essence of smoke.
Forging
Ukutshaya was forged first among the Cardinal Swords. The master-smith embodied Ukutshaya with the essence of the smoke. Much of this essence are unknown but one key component is known. Mixed into the essence is the smoke from the forge itself. This essence of smoke gives the blade a special almost cloaking power. When Ukutshaya is swung through the air, it creates a dense haze, obscuring its user from his enemies. It also gives off the thick odor of metal burning when it clashes with metal, helping to disorient an opponent. This combination of odor and haze from the forging does cause problems with the forging. The master smith must work in intense odors and thick smoke. The care that is required extends the forging process to a month in length.
Battle-testing and Ownership
Upon the completion of the forging process, the sword is turned over to a Var Kelen high priest. This priest endows it with special Force powers. Once this was done, an acolyte would field test the weapon, ensuring that it was of sufficient caliber to be sold. Ukutshaya passed the trials. The acolyte testing it took it against a pair of Wampa and handily defeated both of them. Having passed the combat testing, Ukutshaya was placed on the market, but not just to anyone. The Cardinal Swords are priced to be for those who understand their true value and will thus put them to good use. Ukutshaya ended up in the hands of Kash Montari. It was granted to him for his service to Knights of the Fountain.
