Kyran Edith Caelius (/ˈkɪərɔːn i dɪθ keɪˈliˈʌs/; born Year -21 Day 293) is a Vigo within the Black Sun Family, serving as the Vigo of Negotiation and Vigo of Shadows, in addition to being a citizen of the Avance Coalition. An expert in the fields of geochemical evolution, mining geology, and organic architecture, after graduating from the University of Coruscant in Year 1, Caelius spent many years on sabbatical to further her craft. However, in Year 14 she rejoined the greater society in order to begin her career as an Administrator in Dark Skies Gearworks. Notable for her excessive height for a female human and her androgyny, she is openly anti-Galactic Alliance in the galactic conflict, and a member of House Kaine. She has also been known to dabble in assorted art forms, though often for personal usage rather than financial benefit. Ideologically, Caelius espouses a laissez-fair philosophy and avidly supports minimal legislative interference in the lives of Humans, at an almost anarchistic level. Despite her diplomatic roles within Black Sun and House Soyak-Ikron, Caelius is further noted for her staunch support of personal privacy and her lack of transparency in individual endeavors.

Biography

Early life

Kyran Edith Caelius was born in Xuczal City, planet Thyferra, to educator Kasimir Caelius and his wife Isolde Kaine. Her father was Thyferran, also born in Xuczal, while her mother was of Hapan descent. An only child, Caelius lived on Thyferra until she began schooling. At age 5 her parents chose to move to the capital city of Empress Teta, Cinnagar, to live nearer the Kaine family estate, where they believed a dominant Human environment, rather than one heavily influenced by the Vratix, would offer greater intellectual stimulation.

Living comfortably on the Imperial world, Caelius' father was able to retire, electing to focus exclusively on instructing Caelius and her younger cousin, Lilith Kaine. Though initially their relationship was one of a forced teaching environment, over time their kinship thrived, establishing a long-time friendship. More fervently, however, Caelius eventually developed a distinctly fraternal bond with her only present male cousin, Gabriel Kaine. As she grew older, these relationships would flourish into a sense of belonging, and an ideological basis for Caelius' strong beliefs in familial bonds.

Caelius "Imperative" in Cinnagar

As a teenager, a pervasive recklessness and aggression developed in Caelius' demeanor. Often spending her nights on Empress Teta in ryll fueled euphoria, she learned to use manipulation in order to achieve her goals. Frequently promiscuous and under the influence of various substances, she took to technological distractions, creating diverse gadgets to entertain herself. When she wasn't tinkering, she resorted to the creation of art and eventually vandalism to fill her time. The subject of her art differed greatly, varying from simple caricatured culture references, forays to the macabre, and less frequently political statements.

It was due to her talents and outspoken behaviors, that an extremist humanocentric movement had contacted, and eventually radicalized the young Thyferran. Her computer skills were immediately put to use to benefit the speciest endeavors. When technology would fail to achieve their goals, she resorted to art as propaganda. For some years these behaviors persisted, and as Caelius hit college age she was convinced by her fellows to attend the University of Coruscant, in order to further her knowledge of her craft. Thus, in Year -3, utilizing Asenour Kaine's connections to secure admittance to the university, she left to begin her life on Coruscant.

Adulthood

Caelius, on Nar Shaddaa in Year 2

Initially Caelius joined the Computer Science program, and began her studies with a focus on applications. Given her teenage experiences, in this she excelled for the first year of her education. However, before beginning her second, she was approached by Civil Engineering staff at the University who believed her mind was better suited to planetary development. While hesitant to change her focus, given the reason for attending, some of her radical ideology had tempered without consistent influences. Her decision was made, when the staff appealed to her narcissism, painting a picture of her potential influences on the worlds she could advance.

Enrolling in both the Geotechnical and Structural Engineering programs, Caelius exceeded expectations. In a hologram to a colleague, one of her Professor's described her abilities, "When she looks at a planet, her mind sees the future through its potential. She doesn't see bare ground, but the evolution of a world from the resources which lie within it to the metropolis which could flourish above it. Her capacity to envision each plausible component is outstanding."

Graduating in Year 1, Caelius had varied considerations to take into account for her future. Deciding to continue honing her craft, she set off on a thirteen year leave to explore the galaxy, specifically the genesis of observable architectural cultural diversity. At each planet she explored disparate colonies and cities, in order to study the origin, design, and integration of society with its natural environment. Though she refused to utilize communicators while visiting inchoate communities, Caelius maintained semi-frequent contact with her family whenever her travels brought her to urbanized environments.

It was during her travels that Caelius adopted her androgynous wardrobe, purely due to the convenience of a masculine wardrobe. However, after many years, it would become an ingrained part of her identity.

The Family

Visiting the the city of Imthitill, on the Aqualish homeworld of Ando, Caelius decided she had spent enough time traveling the galaxy; finally she felt that her experiences would allow her to build worlds fitting of her vision. Finishing her business on the planet, she gathered her belongings and immediately began travel to the planet of Vorsia Companion where she had received an offer of employment. Arriving on Year 14 Day 217 she worked as an Administrator, helping with the civil development and organization of Dark Skies Gearworks.

In returning to the civilized world, Caelius also endeavored to expand her connections with non-GA governments. This goal was two-fold: she wanted to offer her services to the various sects of the galaxy, but she further hoped to establish connections with like-minded sentients. In studying the various governments, House Soyak-Ikron of the Avance Coalition appealed to Caelius' values. After a quick application and interview process, she joined the House and its Political Caste.

While working within House Soyak-Ikron, a series of events led to Caelius' decision to serve Avance full-time. This proved to be short lived however, as after meeting and marrying her wife, she moved her life to Malicar. Electing to work for White Star, she believed the Black Sun ideology was more appropriate to the lens through which Caelius viewed the galaxy. Despite her career change, this did not slow her efficiency within Avance, and eventually Lord Protectorate Navik Ikron named Caelius as Arch Lady of House Soyak-Ikron, the Second-in-Command and leader of the Political Caste.

Likewise, within the Black Sun industrial syndicate, Caelius' devotion was immediately apparent and quickly she earned her place in the Black Sun Family. From this position, her staunch work ethic elevated her to the Consiglio and after a relatively short period, her continued efforts led to her invitation into Black Sun's Family Council as Vigo, by Underlord Alexander von Ismay on Year 15 Day 60. Her fidelity was further recognized on Year 15 Day 221, by joint promotion to the Family's Second-in-Command position, Regent, with her wife Leigh Kellan.

With their new positions, the married Regents over watched the Black Sun Collective while the Underlord personally visited Black Sun's many galactic holdings. Beneath their watchful eye, the Collective made many advancements down the pathway of legitimization. However, when Underlord Ismay returned in late Year 15, Caelius decided to take another small sabbatical, stating she would return after the New Year. Though the position of Regent was removed with the Underlord's return, Vigo Caelius retained her diplomatic and intelligence positions.

Personal Information

Attributes

Caelius, in late Year 15

Tall for a Human and muscularly lean, as is often seen in Thyferrans, Caelius stands at 1.88 meters and weighs 69 kilograms. Generally sporting a pale skin tone, due to the frequently encapsulated nature of her work, she has a few tattoos scattered around her body and a cybernetic arm. Though she has always held a keen fixation on personal health, she suffers from some weakness and fine motor skill issues in her cybernetic due to faulty connections in the arm's neural networks.

Stylistically, Caelius is diverse in her choices, her wardrobe conforming to the demands of her environment. Casually, she habitually wears simple button-ups, denym pants, and boots. However, when social conventions require it of her, she is at home in more formal attire. For work, she often wears a thick jumpsuit in order to protect herself from the persistent particulate hazards. Though in her youth Caelius retained the expected femininity of a Kaine woman, since late Year 10 she has has skirted the line of androgyny, often being mistaken for a man; given the rarity, her appearance has become a trademark of her public personality. Her eyes are a bright blue tone, while her often coiffed locks are a sepia tone.

Personality

Throughout her higher education, Caelius was regarded by her fellows as handsome, charismatic, intelligent, and kind. However, others have described her as egocentric, cunning, and at times quick to anger. Known for her proneness to boredom, frequently she has exhibited impulsive and irresponsible behaviors in order to cull her listlessness. Despite the conflicting accounts of her personality, it has often been noted that while appearing serious and brooding, her conversational demeanor is warm, and one of amiable sarcastic wit.

When questioned about galactic politics, Caelius has favored the Imperial Union for its stance against the Galactic Alliance's, "ideological deficiencies [and role as] the self-proclaimed saviors of the sentient condition." She has further supported the Galactic Concordiate for their rejection of the Alliance. On the occasions Caelius has been publicly involved in political deliberations, she has demonstrated an ability to utilize eloquence in order to garner support for her viewpoints.

Around those with whom she is close, she has demonstrated a candid capability for affection and devout loyalty. Within her close interpersonal relationships, a clear sense of willing vulnerability and sincerity has been observed between Caelius and those she calls friend. However, the frequency in which she has engaged in deep connections has always appeared limited, and despite an extensively promiscuous youth, her relationships in adulthood have been well concealed.

Caelius and Kellan in Year 14

Relationships

Romantic

In Year 14, Caelius was introduced to Leigh Kellan, via her employer. Immediately there was chemistry between Caelius and Kellan, inspiring a quickly formed romance. Characteristic to Caelius' preference for privacy, their relationship was initially secret: "I take solstice in the fact that I control my own words. Others can do and say what they like. If I don't open my life to the public realm, however, it retains a certain intimate solitude that I value." It was later released that on Year 14 Day 291, the two were married in a private ceremony, electing to spend a week on the beaches of Malicar in celebration.

Family

Despite being the granddaughter of Edith Kaine, Caelius failed to foster close relationships with her first cousins. Rather, due to being raised with the Hazel Kaine lineage, her second cousins became the family members with whom she most identified. Though an only child, Caelius' relationship with the twins Gabriel and Reina Kaine was distinctly fraternal and sororal, respectively. While their corporation, Holowan Mechanicals aligned with the Galactic Alliance, familial bonds preempted political expectations, and they continue to be close.

"Moderation is a fatal thing. Nothing succeeds like excess."
— Human Philosopher

Xenophobia

Caelius is an adamant opponent of sentient equality, having been raised from an early age to embrace humanocentric views. Her thoughts on sentient equality were further compounded by the staunch Imperial atmosphere of the University of Coruscant. As an ideological basis for her continued support of galactic non-Human speciesism, Caelius has argued that Human superiority has existed through the universe as a natural state. She has further cited the consistent triumphs of Humans over others as galactic leaders. While her radical viewpoint diminished some during her engineering sabbatical, she still holds a general distrust for alien species. However, she is capable of working with non-Humans when necessary, and in rare cases, forming genuine bonds with alien sentients.

Religion

For most of Caelius' life she held no spiritual convictions. Rather, she firmly rejected the belief in any deity and would openly challenge theists; her combativeness was particularly evident when sentients would attempt to proselytize the Thyferran. Despite her atheist dogma, upon hearing of Lilith Kaine's execution, she suffered a severe emotional crisis. This exigency would culminate in a search for spirituality and eventually a strong uncharacteristic belief in the Reansucru faith, given her familial bonds with the Head of Church, Gabriel Kaine. Forced into further self-evaluation during her respite, her Reansucru tenets were further rooted in place. When Caelius' sabbatical was over, she began to pursue officially joining the church, rather than serving as a distant follower. After discussion with Kaine and other Reansucru leaders, it was determined that she followed the Shade of Blue as her primary Force Shade:

"With the usage of knowledge, the Shade of Blue can be manipulative, logical, deceitful, and with patience…powerful. The Shade of Blue values a person's intellect, their ability to be creative, and [their ability to be] progressive. Many followers of this shade go as far as creating great machines, wonders of bewilderment, and vast cities. Choosing to employee secrecy and schemes, you will hardly find a blue vanguard, that is pride of the Shade of White. One needs to be mindful that they do not become overly manipulative and treacherous in pursuit of this shade. Prayers sent to the Shade of Blue ask for both knowledge and wisdom."
— Church of Reansucru Tenets
